[SPOILERS] Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Thread #2) - One Thumb Up

There are plenty of solid arguments for this over plenty of previous pages, but here are some summaries.

Luke: The force is strong in my family, My father has it, I have it, and now you (Camera pans to Rey) have it.

Anakin/Luke's lightsaber "choosing" Rey.

Han obviously knows who she is, but doesn't say.

And Kylo Ren has no knowledge of Luke having a child? And the daughter herself didn't ever know Luke was her father, even as a child? She called her dad Luke?

I agree dude. I have zero interest in a Han Solo origins story. Just seems like something someone in a suit thought of and said, "The fans will eat this shit up!" rather than anything born out of a creative spark.

Well, the idea does have it's start in the period where Lucas was starting projects that would raise the value of the company prior to its sale to Disney according to Kasdan. Although, the young Han movie was what got him interested to work on these projects at all and it's not like it was a greedy money grab since Lucas turned around and gave all the money he made over the sale to charity so....

*shrug*

The whole time I was watching it I thought it was obvious Rey was also Han and Leia's kid.

Guess I was wrong? Seems perfect fora sibling rivalry. Oh well.

As was said multiple times in the thread already, it's not an origins story. It will just be a random Tuesday in the life of that slimy, double-crossing, no-good swindler.

I wonder if Boba Fett is still alive at the time of The Force Awakens.

I want my Boba-Fett-Gets-Shot-Down-And-Has-To-Survive story.

There was an early rumor that Max Von Sydow was going to play an old Boba Fett in the opening sequence. I wonder if that was BS or if it's one of the many rumors that was true at one point.

Why are you so convinced Luke had a kid? I don't get it.

In her flashback as a little girl she is screaming LUUUKKE and refers to him as Luke the whole movie. Jedi's don't have children. Luke has no love interest.

It's not like they can't. It's a choice not to. We don't know whether or not Luke was willing to adhere to the old Jedi rules.

Maybe he realized some of that bullshit is what got them in trouble in the first place.

what references? a passing reference to clones (that could've been from ANH) and that Ewan Mcgregor said a thing during a flashback because, well, Alec Guinness is like super dead?

Compare that to the amount of stuff that is casually referenced from the OT and even if you find one or two things in TFA from the prequels it's not even close.

An army of clones had nothing to do with ANH, Maz Kanata mentions "sith" when talking about the history of the dark side, there are pod racing engines on Jakku (they're actually in the very first teaser trailer).

And, like I said, i doubt you're talking about things from 50 - 60 years ago. None of these characters were there for or even close to alive when the prequels happened.

Wtf do we even have in TFA? Here's the First Order, we have no idea who they are but they're vicious stormtrooper guys I guess. Leia is General of the republic or the rebel alliance? Why are they called the resistance now? What's the state of the galaxy at the moment? I have no fucking clue. It's all so reliant on the old characters and stories it's ridiculous. I can't even remember the name of the main Sith baddie.

Were you in the bathroom during the opening crawl?

Chris Weitz reportedly cranked out a couple drafts after that, and Lucasfilm hired Chris McQuarrie to do a final pass and polish on it, I believe.

yeah, depending on how much is left after that and if they bring in any more writers, he might not even end up getting a writing credit.

all that scrubbing for nothing

the clone wars is from ANH, their use as stormtroopers is just a tweak on that in the PTs

Sith is older than dirt and comes from the EU:

The word "sith" was first used in the novelization of Star Wars, as a title for Darth Vader, the "Dark Lord of the Sith". The Sith were not formally introduced or mentioned on-screen until the release of Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, in 1999, though they had been named in some Expanded Universe works before that time.

ill grant you the podracers but, yeah, it's probably the only overt prequel thing in the whole movie and it's tucked away in such a manner that you have to strain yourself to see it

Maybe he realized some of that bullshit is what got them in trouble in the first place.

He could've heard straight from the horses mouth, "This is what I was feeling, what Obi-Wan didn't pick up on, how the order failed me, and I how I failed myself."

And Kylo Ren has no knowledge of Luke having a child? And the daughter herself didn't ever know Luke was her father, even as a child? She called her dad Luke?

Easily explained away with various possibilities, especially since the girl was 3-5 when she was left on Jakku.

Secondly, she doesn't scream Luke. You're the only person here who has made that claim that I've seen.

Nah, he'll get a credit. Arndt didn't even finish his draft and he's still got a credit. Whitta turned in a completed first draft. The amount that would have to be changed for his credit to be denied is pretty heavy.

Star Wars: Civil War

No civil war

Luke never want to kill Vador
Obiwan never want to kill Anakin

Two times we saw fight beteen good and evil: The battle with dark maul, and yoda vs palpatine (but they were side characters).

Now we have Rey and Kylo who represent very well each side of the side.
Rey is pure and gentle.
Kylo is going to much dark side than Vador himself...
And J.J.A tell us during the final fight "ok these fight is the central plot of the third trilogy"

how can it be disappointing?

I really want them to make Han a complete bastard, like he was in A New Hope and Empire. True mercenary who has no hesitation in killing if needs must.

Rather than that happy go lucky guy he ended up being in Jedi.

And Kylo Ren has no knowledge of Luke having a child? And the daughter herself didn't ever know Luke was her father, even as a child? She called her dad Luke?

Kylo gets mad when he finds out that their is a girl on Jakku and makes it his prioty to go after her on Takodana In the novelization its made more clear that Kylo and Snoke know who Rey is.

I was surprised too by how anger was Kylo using the force on his men when he learn about Rey...

Kylo know something but what? The scene after he killed Han , Rey look at him shocked, and Kylo look at her with madness like "I KILLED MY FATHER, NOW YOU ARE THE LAST THING THAT PREVENT ME FOR BEING THE MOST POWERFUL SITH IN THE SAGA"

I swore I read something a long while back during production from JJ about how they were doing a puppet Hutt for this movie and it was going to be amazing because it wasn't going to be CGI.

I remembered thinking about it last night after leaving my second viewing of the movie.

Anyone else remember this?

Does star wars fan goes seeing episode one or two twice or three times when it was on cinema?
I can't remember, only for episode 3.

Because everyone around me want to see it again.

Gave Veelk's Rey Mary Sue post its own thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1161509

Wish I had seen this post earlier. I jumped to conclusions about the new thread when it appeared. I've gotta learn to take a freaking breath and calmly deal with things that I really care about. Jeez louise.

Rey is an amazing character, and I think the lack of backstory and extreme pacing and stuff hurt the movie, not the overall characterization.

Those were made for their respective scenes, but reusing them would make them lose their impact.

Luke's theme on the other hand is iconic to the entire franchise and is more than appropriate, especially if Rey is his daughter.

I agree with this. Did not care for the use of Duel of the Fates in AotC at all. Cheapened it a bit.

While the Force Awakens itself is fantastic, the OST is probably the weakest of the 7.

I've come around on it quite a bit after listening to it by itself. I would put it above AotC and maybe even RotJ (mainly because I don't think there was much in the way of new themes in Jedi though the Emperor's theme is pretty iconic).

I was surprised to see that Arndt has been on the publicity tour for the film. For some reason I thought there might have been some bad blood once Abrams and Kasdan came on but that doesn't seem to be the case.

McQuarrie being the last person to have the Rogue One script should mean it'll be OK.

What if Rey's mother is in Rogue One?

I personally saw Episode I in theaters 3 times. Granted I was 13 at the time. Later I would see II at a midnight showing when I was 16. I have a cousin who is quite the die-hard that saw I, II, and III 8+ times each in theaters, and drove about 5 hours away for IMAX on all of them.

I'm more of a casual fan, myself (only typically caring about the movies) and I'm planning on seeing VII for my second showing this weekend.
