Final Fantasy VI without the bilinear filter on the characters looks pretty damn amazing.

I honestly don't know what Square Enix was thinking.

Isn't the gba version of this game the best though? Or is the PC one, aside from the weird art the better one?

I wouldn't go that far but the filter is indeed awful. When did these mobile remakes start coming out, was it before the rise of pixel art games?

That's option 1 out of the 3.
I use option 2.

1 is the giant evolution tree (nice for high variety, but ends up complex as shit)
2 is a streamlined version of 1 with less units but keeps the uniqueness brought by 1
3 is nearly vanilla with small modifications

Example:

yeah that might be it

Rebel Galaxy is 2D. It's like sailing in space.
what's do you mean 2d?

how's that even work

FFV mobile came out 2013.
Honestly the 2D enhaced ports on PSP (I & II, IV) look fine to me. It's just the mobile ports of V and VI that look like total ass. That's probably because the PSP was still pretty low res, while they went for some weird resolution for the mobile ports.
I don't know if the same people developed them, but I doubt it.

Looks so freaking bad. The recoloration looks especially bad

The Final Fantasy V and VI mobile ports were developed by Matrix Software, the same guys who did the FF III & IV 3D remakes for DS (that were later ported on mobile too). So, yep, not the same devs of the PSP remakes.

Star Trek space. There is essentially no z-axis!

Well technically there was. The "heading" was 360 degrees on a flat plane, and "mark" was another 360 degrees perpendicular to that, essentially a kind of z-axis.

But yeah, their space battles on the show were always planar except for maybe one time.

Uh, right, Steam. Did you know that Star Trek 25th anniversary and Judgement Rites are both 40% off and under 4 bucks right now? ...Is it cheaper anywhere else and/or the cheapest it's been?

Nearest neighbour upscaling is all pixel art games need. Anything else is just ruinous.

Well, we still have some work to do on this but it's a first step. Nyxo is still working on his obb archive decryption and repackaging software that will allow us to upscale the SNES sprites and inject them into the game. We're also looking into custom resolution options that can be scaled based on the game's internal rendering resolution.

At that point we should also be able to do something about the character portraits too since a lot of people don't like those.

Further along, hopefully someone can piece together what we need to completely recreate the battle UI.

Once that's all done, we should have a pretty good recreation of Final Fantasy VI on PC.

Can someone post a comparison shot? I'm not exactly sure I can notice the difference. Excuse my n00b eyes.

Does anybody know if The Vanishing of Ethan Carter from Nuuvem includes the Redux version (like the Steam version does)?

Let's see...

FF7
Lego Marvel Super Heroes
Super House of Dead Ninjas

Kinda want South Par Stick of Truth but I feel like at $7.49 it's a tiny bit much for it. I know it's 75% off, but...I usually bite at $5 on games under $10

Been hearing about Downwell here and there enjoyed it after buying it too thanks for the recommendation guys any other cheap games like it or "arcade-y".

Getting some games for my Surface Book, so far I bought:
King's Quest and Pass
Axiom Verge
Crawl
Downwell
Hotline Miami 2
Pary Hard <-- crazy fun!
Shovel Knight
Undertale

I paid 50 and I don't feel ripped off. It's worth 7.50

Alright you fuckers. I didn't have enough money to get spelunky so I said hell with it, those nerds on gaf always raving about this minecraft ripoff hexcells.

It's pretty good :3 Probably no spelunky tho.

Finally set up a Steam account haha! Don't know where to start. Games I think I'll get so far are:

Grim Dawn
KOTOR 1+2
Hotline Miami

and either South Park Stick of Truth or Hotline Miami 2. Will have to wait and see how much I get paid this week before deciding.

Quick question folks, should I bother picking up Way of the Samurai 4 if I don't have a controller?

Purchasing the Sunless Sea (per earlier GAF recommendations), Invisible Inc, Dragon's Dogma, and the Long Dark. Looking forward to playing them all!

Ethan Carter..... :O

Can't do ultra settings (beside maybe some custom tweaks), but damn this game looks amazing on high still. Glad I dive into this game finally and haven't had noise issues so far. Recent upgrade on PC has kind of blown away, even if I likely have to stick with medium or high settings usually for current gen stuff.

That's just weird. I'd get it a little maybe if it was like, a really popular review and he was trying to crib upvotes for some reason, but it's a game with little fanfare and a review with 6 votes on it.

You got a stalker bro.
