Rth suggests non-opening thursday record is in play pending evening turnout

Personally I'm seeing incredibly strong sales for early evening but weak to modest sales for late evening in my area

There's a chance it can hit $30 for sure

I called my theater because I made the quick decision to go see it at 7:30pm on Christmas. They said while it probably won't be sold out they said to get my tickets early as that will be a busy time for them.

We have a theater with reserved seats luckily. Picked up best seats in the house for 10:45pm 3D showing tomorrow. The 8-9pm show times had a lot of seats taken for both 2D/3D

I've been casually checking all week and the reserved seating showings have all been sold out every time I checked, it's kinda fucking crazy.

I wanna see the movie again, but this time in a decent seat in a theater that's not packed. I guess It's going to be a while before that's even possible.

I'll take that potential crow serving.

It will hit 1 billion Domestic.

It's well within the rounds of possibility right now, so crow should not be on the offering regardless. It'll be clear how close it will come after this weekend.

Tomorrow is going to be huge.

It's disgusting that Daddy's Home might perform best this weekend out of all the newcomers and expansions.

But just below the largest non-opening Thursday (Transformers 2 at 29).

Edit: Which means that if today were any day other than Christmas eve, it would have broken the record. And after tomorrow, it's going to have the largest overall Friday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday record, and the largest non-opening Wednesday and Friday record. And if you counted the preview showings as Thursday instead of Friday, it would have been the largest Thursday of all time.

Potentially a bigger Xmas Eve than any single day Avatar ever achieved, absolute insanity. It also locks up $50M for tomorrow, and the question now is if it can reach $60M.

Yeah the floor in this is 900 mil now. I bump my domestic final tally to 950 mil. I am trying not to be too optimistic and leap onto the billion dollar club till I see how this does this weekend.

I project the floor as $740... As a worst case scenario

If TFA gets $150 weekend, $100 week then $100 weekend... I expect the floor to be about $910 mil... That's essentially the current take plus whatever Jurassic world did 20 days onwards

But I'd still use TDKR as an alternate and suggest floor of $840

When you get into big grosses, sometimes you need to look at grosses instead of percentages because there's truly only so much money around... And star wars may be heavily front loaded and can come crashing down like a rock

This movie is going to have a 10 day run between $550-$580M, more than all but 4 movies made in their entire run.

B-b-but Star Wars is DEAD, there was a gaf thread about it did you not read it!?

Disney better reinstate all EU stuff back into canon or they can kiss their business goodbye

I read somewhere that if Avatar came out today, it'd make about 2.3b ww. That's quite a dip. If TFA manages to get there somehow, I'd say that's a big victory.

I have no doubt that it won't beat Avatar's ww. Even if it made over a billion at the domestic BO.

I set my expectations to current Domestic king + first non-JC movie in the $2 billion club + fuck JW and its records

Star Wars is dead, deader than the old Extended Universe. Deader than the jedi knight franchise.

It's not even going to make 230 million peanuts this weekend!

i was surprised to see that transformers: revenge of the fallen had the record before star wars for the highest non-opening wednesday, but then i noticed it actually opened on monday and its first wednesday was its second full day of release, and the punk ass bitch still went down by a cool ten mil.

TFA seems to be making close to probably the maximum actually possible each day, with the bigger drops solely due to matinee prices, discounts, and fewer showings. What actual attendance drops exist are very modest. If this holds, a $180 million weekend is possible.
