Steam security issue revealed personal info to other users on XMas Day (fixed)

Getting into multiple accounts. One account had a debit/credit card linked to his account, thought I'd do him a favor and delete it, but it just sent me to an error page.

For everyone worrying about your CC getting stolen, I thought it only shows the last 4 digits of the card if you have it saved?

If you have saved your private details, like adress, name and all, you can get identity stolen. Those are private details, that were compromised.

I've got xxxx account here, and it has card details attached. This is seriously worrying.

Edit: removed username because not the best idea advertising them.

?

It's been like 15 minutes. It's also December 25th, which in America (where Valve HQ is located) people usually celebrate Christmas with their families.

Actually i got my steam account recovery e-mail 2 days ago but just ignored it cause it said so, "ignore this email if you don't want to reset your account." So i did.

Edit:

WTF

I got another steam account recovery e-mail 2 hours ago.

I can't log in to Steam at all, but thankfully I never leave a working credit card on my account although I wish I had set up Steam Guard.. one of those things I always meant to do.

Any attempts to login just bounce me right back to the home page, so hopefully they've at least mitigated this from getting any worse than the complete mess it already is..

:(

Anyone with credit information stored on Steam should consider notifing their credit company ASAP to refuse all transactions until further notice.

WTF its happening to me too. Apparently im logged in as some russian guy.

Crap if someone has my account it has £20 on it that someone gave me for christmas -_-

Just got a Redux dude with a Fnatic pic

This is weird as fuckkk

And the client went to German for a few seconds O_O

Shitting bricks here, can't use my phone to remove payment details ended up with some random American account on it and some random Dutch account on my pc. Thanks Valve

Can't login into Steam. Fuck.

Someone's getting sued.

So depending on the game i click, i get a different profile, but each profile always seems linked to a specific game.
For example if i click on Crusader Kings, i always seem to get a certain "maumau something something".

Holy fuck, this is messed up.

Are people discussing this in any of the Steam forums?

I just posted it in the Steamworks private group... I rather be found guilty of overreacting than to risk anything...

The irony:

if you buy games via paypal
login to paypal and remove Valve from preapproved payments, that means you gotta login to paypal again to buy stuff iirc

Hopefully Valve gets people into the office soon and fixes this, or at least shuts down the servers and it doesn't take forever to call people in on Christmas.
