Lightning Stars in New Louis Vuitton Fashion Film

Any issue with Lightning stems from they let a bellend run that game and when you empower bellends terrible shit happens.

Also Fashion people are kinda insane.

FYI people, this is for LV's spring 2016 ready-to-wear show, which is itself based from anime.

In fact, one of 'em is based off from FF7 AC's Tifa.

The following are conclusions from my part:

Now, why SE's Visual Works?
It makes a lot of sense, they are probably the best Japanese studio to make stylish but realistic characters and clothes, which fits this vision.

Why Lightning?
Her expresionless face and her body physique matches that of fashion models.

I think this is great, I am happy games can reach other mediums, and I honestly think Lightning is fine for this.

He looks like he's wearing a child's sweater but couldn't get his head through the neck hole and gave up.
:lol

I love that thought because this is so far removed from reality that no one is able to tell the difference between intentional design and hapless mistake either way.

It's the fashion version of this
"Guy dropped his glove on the floor here at MoMA and everyone is nervously stepping around it, unsure if it's art."

Really interesting, thanks for the links.

This kinda looks more Tifa though, no?

Pretty bad idea lol. The problem is fashion for females in current video games and anime is mostly bad and boring. Lightning Returns itself boasts of 80 'outfits', but once you look at all the outfits and you can see maybe 1 or 2 at decent level and the rest being fairly bad.

Visual Works getting work I have no issue with, Lightning as a model is sure, might as well even though she doesn't even look like the original design anymore. My beef is with the bad fashion.

Stealing this joke from a Kotaku comment.

It even has the same number of NPCs!

I think the Prada collection worked so well because of Lightning perceived personality and masculine character. Then again I haven't fell in love with Nicolas' take on LV yet still.

Louis Vuitton isn't for everyone, not to mention it's absolute high rollers. Or maybe it's more so beyond us to perceive it as good fashion.

And I say this as having a friend that spent $500 on a keyholder. $500.

Side games/spinoffs/prequels don't sell anywhere near as well as a mainline entry, that's always been the case, & not just in video games either.

Lightning Returns was outsold by Bravely Default though, and they're both arguably a part of the same series. The fact that Bravely Default had to be localized by Nintendo because Square Enix didn't have confidence in it may be indicative of how much of a failure Lightning Returns was.

Sure it's not for everyone, and sure some of us don't have the money for it.

Doesn't mean we can't judge whether or not it looks good. Fan Bingbing could wear that pink jacket and shorts combo and it wouldn't look good. And she's Fan Bingbing! She literally makes anything she wears look great. That LV spring 2016 rtw line though? Nope.

Tbh they dumbed down her design in LR.

They took out all the darker features from her look and instead gave her uniformly round feminine, younger look.

Even in XIII-2 her design was more faithful to the original and better overall.

And they went out of their way to tell us they made her boobs larger.

I've been interested in seeing some of anime fashion being translated. I pretty much dug everything from Yu Yu hakasho but rarely is anything in other shows that sensible.

As for what can be seen in the entire show most of them really didn't give a hint of attachment to their supposed inspiration.

Maybe there's something more to all this stuff that you all are missing in your quest to hate this the most

I don't see why everyone is being dramatic, but people do love hating anything Lightning or FFXIII-related, and people are generally dramatic towards anything Square Enix-related.

I think this is somewhat cool. More CGI Lightning? Fine by me.

So where is the true HD version ?

I'd love to see what visual works put out in actual detail.

SE has never been too consistent between character appearances.

Look at Cloud. Even when you switch costumes in Smash, his face looks different and he's only aged two years.

I know which is very annoying.

i sort of like the designs but both the lv and prada stuff really look a lot more like burberry (except for the suit on sazh).

is nomura helping with these? he should hurry up and just do a xiv x prorsum collab =p

kinda odd thing to see right now but it probably makes more sense for ff xiii than any other at this point lol

My gods, this was both much shorter and far worse than I expected it to be.

I really wish they'd never ever acknowledge Lightnings existence ever again. She's the poster child for three games that turned what was one of my all time favourite game series into something I cringe at the thought of.

Dragging her out to do shit like this is just embarrassing, and a reminder to everyone not to get too hopeful that FFVIIR or FFXV will be any good.

I don't see how a team that has touched neither product has anything to do with FFVIIR and FFXV, but ok.

That's like saying, "yo the last Uncharted was not great, so we shouldn't expect U4 to be good!" (completely ignoring the work directly preceding U4, and that the last Uncharted was made by a different team) Different directors, different teams, different visions.
