Final Fantasy IX coming to PC & Smartphones

I'm still not sure if this announcement is real or I'm just too drunk.

Very good news, IX is my favourite one.

Strip all of that away, and the actual story and characters in the game are really shallow and the narrative is pretty nonsensical and lacks a strong theme. I don't think I can personally agree with this. I think FFIX stood up even not knowing any of those references or having nostalgia for the old games. Personally I played IX after only playing VIII and VII, and loved it at the time. I also loved it subsequent times, though it is a bit harder to play again compared to VII and VIII because of the slowness.

They didn't with FFX HD so that's only thing I'm worried about here

Everything else looks really promising

They have had one hell of a turnaround, holy shit. This has been the most most excited I've been for Square-Enix stuff since, well... the PS1 days, really.

Edit: I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that they're actually porting this. Wow.

If they ever announce a successor to Brave Fencer Musashi, I'll lose my mind (no, that crappy PS2 game doesn't count).
 
Cool, I've always wanted to try this one. Although right now I am playing X for the first time and am a little underwhelmed. Hope this one doesn't disappoint
 
Hopefully they clean up the loading times and random battle transitions outright; I don't like the fast-forwardy feel of high speed mode.

IX is one of the best ones. It's very whimsical but that's what I really liked about it.
 
Year of dreams still kicking! I just played this game for the first time this summer, enjoyed it a lot. Glad to hear there will be a high speed mode because there's no way I'd replay the game otherwise.
 
This is fucking beyond awesome...one of the best FF games and they even speed it up, which IMO was its only flaw. Alright SE, you got me...I am buying that.
 
Last day of 2015 and we still get another dream announcement.

This year was a blast. Hopeful for a PS4 version down the line as well (and for FFVIII)
 
This just looks like an upressed PSX version.

It will look good enough on a phone screen, but on a 1080p 27" screen? It may look horrendous
 
The best Final Fantasy. I already own it on PS1 so I'm not interested. FFX is the final Sony exclusive mainline game now, bit of a shame that it's the last one.

Edit: Oh and FFXII
 
Super happy to hear this. It means the PS4 release is around the corner, as well. Now all that needs an announcement is FFXII and life will be complete.

I mean, the ideal situation is a faithful render of the original PSX versions since I'm assuming this is going to be streaming music rather than running a sequence, just like the other ports.

VIII Steam had a wonky batch of music files, but that was most likely due to rendering off the PC version with <generic MIDI module> rather than going off the PSX version, an error which cannot happen with IX since there was no prior PC version.

Yeah, I just assume they'll be streaming the original PSX soundtrack. It was always odd they went with MIDI for VII and VIII, even back in those days.
 
tried to play through this on vita a few years ago and it was just too damn slow, will pick it up on PC.

Steam isn't far off from having every FF game. Hope they bring over the FFT mobile port which is supposed to be good.
