Best FF IMO finally getting the update it deserves. Really looking forward to this.
Now whether to pick it up on my phone or PC...

Is it an actual port or the PS1 version emulated?
Those were just contributing factors. I dislike the fact that the entire game was engineered to be some sort of nostalgia dive with lots of hurr-hurr references to "classic" FF. Strip all of that away, and the actual story and characters in the game are really shallow and the narrative is pretty nonsensical and lacks a strong theme. I love a ton of scenes in FFIX, but as an overall product I disliked it more and more as time went by.
It's been 16 long years!
Looking at the released stuff so far, I'm glad that they are adding some polys to the models. But the backgrounds, yikes. I guess there isn't much they can do about those, but it's a shame all the same.
I think that's exactly what they are going to do.
Hoping for save states to steal that fucking fairy flute from Shrek.
That's underselling it.

They have had one hell of a turnaround, holy shit. This has been the most most excited I've been for Square-Enix stuff since, well... the PS1 days, really.
Edit: I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that they're actually porting this. Wow.
Cool, I've always wanted to try this one. Although right now I am playing X for the first time and am a little underwhelmed. Hope this one doesn't disappoint
Hopefully they clean up the loading times and random battle transitions outright; I don't like the fast-forwardy feel of high speed mode.
I hope is remastered some track like this, but i'm dreaming..

Surefire way to piss off a good fraction of fans

They won't touch the music. But man, it would be fun to see fans all pissed about it.

I mean, the ideal situation is a faithful render of the original PSX versions since I'm assuming this is going to be streaming music rather than running a sequence, just like the other ports.
VIII Steam had a wonky batch of music files, but that was most likely due to rendering off the PC version with <generic MIDI module> rather than going off the PSX version, an error which cannot happen with IX since there was no prior PC version.
Wait, Square Enix is openly admitting that Final Fantasy IX, exists!?
