FF 9 fans seem to have a very hard time taking anyone criticizing the game. I'm also disappointed, but not surprised, that this topic turned into FF list warz yet again. Oh well, super psyched for this release, the fast forward feature will be very welcome getting through the slow battles.

Final Fantasy 9 is a great game (Top 3 FF for me) but there is no reason to deny that it had some terrible character designs. Ironically, it also has one of the best character design (Vivi) so I guess it balances itself somehow
. But Kuja and Zidane are easily the worst main FF characters =/There isn't a way around that unless they rerendered the original assets at high-resolution, Capcom seems to be doing that with RE0.

If there exists a potential opinion, there exists a Final Fantasy fan to express it. Probably one of the first things I learned when I was a teenager.
As for myself, I love FFIX. Not quite my favorite (VII and Tactics and maybe X top it) but still a Top 10 game for me nevertheless. I can't wait to return to Gaia.

Super excited for this! FF9 is my favorite Final Fantasy, it'll be awesome to finally play it again and ruin my nostalgia. Or, hopefully, not! Haha.
I hope they do end up putting those hi res backgrounds in, though, because the low res ones will look... odd. Especially with updated/up-ressed/AA'd models. If they're doing that, which I assume they are...?

I finally figured out why this news made me happy. It's the first sign that they are actually committed to getting their full back catalogue of FFs on various platforms, not just the games that can already be quick 'n dirty ported from other sources.
FFIX will take a little effort, with no PC, DS, PSP or mobile port to work off of.

Every FF had some terrible character design, it's the curse of the series. FFIX character design is dirty and unconventional, but they are highly stylized and charming. It's a huge departure from the realistic art style that surrounds the Nomura FF, but it's what makes it look perfect for the kind of game it is.
Also Zidane is the best FF protagonist. Period.
Terra (World of Ruins) is the second best FF protagonist. Celes is great as well, same goes to Locke.

FFIX is one of the best JRPG of all time, and there is not a single game out there that has as much love put into making the game than it.

Seems like ff13 series was the first sign tbh.
Now that 9 is confirmed, I think the X-HD and X-2 HD will be definitely coming although that was rumored from datamines as well a while back iirc.
Or that it works on Windows

You're thinking of World of Balance Terra. I admit she is quite flawed in personality during the first half of the game. But in World of Ruins, I felt that she has grown into something else. A selfless, mature woman who dedicated the rest of her life taking care for group of young orphans, and fight for them in order to give them future, despite her identity that makes her inconvenient around human beings.
Great character. Strong female character done right, without being physically aggressive. *cough*Lightning*cough*

Kuja is atrocious, for sure. I'd say Zidane is a solid design though. He definitely conveys the "playful, flirtatious thief" at first glance.

Terra is an emotionally abused and in some ways incredibly sheltered young lady who needs the time and space to find her own way in a tipsy turvy world. And, through strength of character and kindness, she does find that way. Protecting and nurturing orphans in a seemingly hopeless world. And she can turn into a pink Barbie. Terra rules.

This! Her level of growth is probably more than any FF character. Also the fixation on her kind of tells me they didn't even make it to the second half of the game.

Sorry, but why people want to play this game at 3x speed? I played on PS1 and it was amazing. I understand if you already played it, ok... But if this is your first experience with FFIX you should play it at normal speed.
This would be good advice if battles in the port don't take 5 minutes each to actually start.
We'll see.
