So was this games code lost or not?

Or it has been reverse engeineered? or it's in a ps1 emulator wrapper?

What do they mean by "high speed mode"?

See ff7 on ps4. a click of a button and you could speed up the whole game, including battles and moving around maps. (not CGI cutscenes though)

and i will be using the speed mode ALWAYS for ff9. The game is SO SLOW even on the fastest battle settings. PS1 load times didnt help. But the atb charging speed was too slow and combined with the load times it took well over 30 seconds to just get the fist hit in.
And the frame rate of the battles didnt help either (I assume ff9 was pushing the limits of the PS1 to be honest)
you'd think with 4 characters it would keep you occupied, but you're waiting for nothing to happen a lot of the time.

FFIX's battle system is incredibly slow even on max speed, and the initial load times make it worse. However what really compunnds it all is the queue system. You can press a button for a simple atrack or spell and with the way queuing works it can be a minute or two before an action is taken depending on whatever was scheduled to happen first. It makes it feel like doing something simple takes forever and aggravates the already slow battle system speed.

Nevermind that by the time the action takes place it might become obsolete or the entire encounter situation may have changed dramatically to the point the move you want to make is something else. In other FF games if you see someone dead or on low health you simply revive or heal them. However in this game the time between trying to heal someone and the action actually happening can be several turns and the situation may be in another entire state by then as well. It just makes the whole battle system feel sluggish and annoying

Great news! The best Final Fantasy will finally get to be enjoyed by a broader audience. Hopefully it sells like gangbusters. If this upgraded port were to get a PS4 release with trophy support I'd definitely have to replay yet again.

Is that mode available on the PC release of FFVII and VIII as well?

Is it bad that I see a lot of these posts and just think "Yup, their first RPG was Final Fantasy VII."
Well it's not that surprising. FFVII was for the majority of Europe the first JRPG they'd heard of or played since the genre was practically non existent beforehand over here.

It is on VIII but not VII. No idea why.

I actually imagine that for a lot of people the first JRPG of this type might have been Suikoden 1, but FF7 was the first proper FF game to come over to Europe.

Mystic Quest doesn't count.

While FFVII was probably bigger, Secret of Mana was also HUGE in Europe. So for many people over here the first JRPG was actually an action RPG.

high speed mode
If this also applies to battles and their load times it will single-handedly make the game 10x better.

Also, between that and the FFX steamdb leak, all we need is FFXII for every mainline FF ever released to be officially available on PC, right?

Huh, why Suikoden 1? I think Suikoden 2 was by far the more popular entry and likely the one that most people play first. But either way, Suikoden series is niche compared to FF.

1 and 2 are still missing, even though they do have mobile versions

That's too bad, I'm sure there are alternative programs that would speed up the game if necessary.

Hasn't been confirmed, but most likely Steam.

i remember when the re-release for ffvii pc whas first in square-enix platform, :( waiting for steam confirmation.

Are we still missing I and II?

FFXV will release this year, but that is most likely coming to PC as well. Considering Square's historical precedent in this case.

You're correct, but Square moved away from that quite quickly. Steam is lucrative, their platform is not, FFXIV not withstanding.

long loading times and the sluggishness of the battle system can be irritating, but it isn't nearly as bad as some people like to pretend. I finished the game on PS1 2 times and I wasn't screaming in agony while doing so.

Eh... Final Fantasy 9 was always such a huge disappointment coming off of 8 which is probably still the best game in the series. 9 was just so vanilla in comparison with a really basic story. Nice to see it find an expanded audience but I really hope they speed up the molasses battle system.
9 is good but every other FF from 6 onwards is better. Zidane also happens to be the worst protagonist in the series, what a trash character.
No, that would be Terra
FF6 exists, so I automatically disagree.
there is so much wrong in these posts that I feel compelled to reply with my fresh new avatar as reaction.

You get used to it pretty easily so it didn't bother me either, however shorter loading times and a general speedup function are always welcome additions in my opinion.

then lets do it, day one, thanks grief!!

Yup, which is why I decided to specify "first JRPG of this type". :p I played the hell out of Mana as well.

It has nothing to do with popularity or nicheness. Suikoden 1 just came out before FF7.

No idea but I doubt they'll use a PS1 emulator, I doubt Sony would allow anyone to do that.
Maybe Hiroyuki Ito found a backup in the basement where he works LOL.

Still can't believe this announcement after the recent FF9 neglect thread.

Yes, SE's timing is perfect this time.

Just because it came out first doesn't mean it's the one that most people played as their first JRPG.

I wasn't stating it as a proven fact, obviously. It's entirely anecdotal.
But as far as I could see, outside of Phantasy Star on Sega platforms, PAL regions didn't really have turn based JRPG's before Suikoden landed. I can't remember if PAL release of FF7 had been even confirmed at the time. But here was this another JRPG that was available right now.

This! Her level of growth is probably more than any FF character. Also the fixation on her kind of tells me they didn't even make it to the second half of the game.

Yeah, but even in WOB, Terra is just withdrawn/emotionally shutdown. Not actively whiny/mopey/what-have-you.

But I might be biased, Terra has always been one of my favorites. In fact, I like Zidane even more than I would have just due to his trance resembling Terra's morph.

I was playing the PAL Phantasy Star on my Sega Master System in the 1980s, just saying.

Yes the release weren't consistent but I feel many were played. Playstation did stop to the haphazard jrpg releases though.

I agree the battle speed is very slow, but it never became a drag nor have I ever not enjoyed this game.

And I've beaten it like 6-7 times, a couple of which where "perfect" runs (without Excalibur II, that is).

Maybe (probably) I'm a madman, though.

Hopefully FFVIII comes to smartphones too.

I've been collecting FF games on iOS. Fun to have available at all times when waiting or commuting.

I wonder if it'll be possible to a full low-level run and still get the Exaclibur II. As a PAL type person it was literally impossible for me without an Action Replay (even with the Disc trick).

So, I've been curious. Assuming that they don't fix the default ATB fill rate, how difficult would it be for modders to go in and fix that?

Is this a simple fix that we should easily expect if SE leaves the battle speed alone? Or does it affect so much that the whole battle system would need to be overhauled?

I mean, fast forward mode is good, but I doubt I'll want to play with that turned on all the time.
