I've got a lot of holidays in Jan this year, so I've started watching TCW. I'm nearing the end of S1 so far, and while it isn't compulsive viewing for me yet, I'm starting to get a feel for things.

Nice to know it only improves as it goes along.

You're at the "shitty"(not really) part it's part of the initiation we all went through

As far as bumpy starts go it's far from the worst I've seen. If anything I'd say its just a bit slow and measured right now, with not a lot in the way of emotional stakes.

That's to be expected though, and I'm happy to press on.

It's a bit of a pain in the ass but It can be fixed. I'm almost done with a rewatch in chronological order.

I just recently started watching the series (only 4 episodes in) and I plan on watching it all the way through. But is it better for a first time viewer to watch it in chronological order like the list has it in or by the season?

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on that since I haven't gotten too far into the show yet.

I'd go by chronological order - some stuff is actually a bit jarring in that characters and ideas are introduced after they first show up in season order. There are some exceptions (like the clone flashbacks) but, as a guy who watched by season, I'd recommend not doing so.

So I finished Rebels (or caught up to it). And while it doesn't touch Clone Wars' greatness, it's still enjoyable with the crew of the Ghost holding it all together. Having low expectations going in was a good thing as I was pleasantly surprised despite the step down from the budget and the show being a lot softer than Clone Wars.

I have to say, though, I loved seeing him back, but I was kind of hoping for Darth Vader to have a bigger role so far. But the season isn't over yet, so we'll see. I'm really just waiting for the old master and apprentice to duke it out...

Rebels is abysmal compared to Clone Wars. It's a damn shame. The Vader episode (Siege of Lothal) is the only truly good one. The Rex two-parter was alright. Several others (mostly this season) have been ok.

Most of the cast is completely uninteresting and they have done little to make them better. I think Kanan and Hera are the only decent characters. Ezra is really bad, which is a shame since he's the "main". Ahsoka and Rex are great, but they're barely in it.

I don't mind Ezra so much since he's still a kid and acts like one to boot. Not saying that makes him great or anything but I don't find him to be terrible. Hera and Kanan are great, almost makes me want to pick up that prequel book on them.

But yeah, while I'm loving the callbacks and characters to Clone Wars, Vader was really overhyped, and so were the rest if the returning cast. Though I expected as much since this show is still very much about the Rebels.

The Inquisitors are fine villains, though. Especially that first one.

Ahsoka was a kid too and yet she was/is a vastly more interesting character. The root problem is Rebels, at its heart, is a kid's show. While Clone Wars was just a good show that anyone could enjoy.

Clone Wars was something kids could watch but also didn't dumb stuff down for them. While Ahsoka was a kid, she also was a good role model. And the other characters were all good as well. Plot lines were still mature, and there were things both kids could find fun and adults could find depth in. The storylines also were given time to play out, with most arcs being 3 or 4 episodes.

Rebels on the other hand treats its audience like they're 7. No storyline is mature, and even the adults act stupid so a "kid can get it". Completely missing the point that kids are smarter than we give them credit for and can understand a more mature plot. The show is also pretty much scared of death, having it always happen off screen in the rare occasions it occurs. Every single character acts like a kid, and that's bad. Ezra is literally a kid, but Sabine and Zeb are also barely characters and act just as bad. Hera and Kanan are the only ones somewhat interesting, but their dramatic level (especially Kanan) is also typically that of a child. Also, no story is given a chance to breathe and develop. They're all wrapped up in 20 minutes. This lack of seriality inherently makes the stories less complex and less interesting. It is no coincidence that the best episodes (Vader and Rex's reintroduction) were both two parters/40 minutes. And that still is nothing on the 4 part arcs of the Clone Wars, where they basically are each film length and get an equal amount of development.

The season 1 Inquisitor was a decent villain but they killed him off far too soon. The new ones aren't nearly as good. The Frankenstein guy is bumbling and dumb and the woman is alright but an extreme stereotype. Like the rest of the cast, they have no depth. None of these characters make me want to watch them. And the narrative just isn't compelling either.

I think I am gonna check out the Clone War series, been hearing about it for a while now and while I'm not exactly the biggest Star War fan I do find it decent fun

Woah season 2 was bad? I thought it was fantastic. The first Geonosis episode was one of the best battle sequences in the series.

Art looks so butt after genndy

Refuse to watch this after that
I'm a huge fanboy of that series, too. I still love it today, and that was part of the reason why I put off this series for so long, but I ask you to give it a shot. It really is a fantastic show.

.

I like Rebels, but damn, unless it can produce something on par with the Umbara arc, the Return of Darth Maul Arc, and the Wrong Jedi Arc... It just won't be able to compare to TCW.

Yeah I really don't understand the "Seasons 1 and 2 are awful" crowd. Season 2 has the Holocron Heist, Mandalore and Geonosis arcs. And Season 1 has the Luminara and Ahsoka versus Ventress episode. I even like the Storm Over Ryloth episode.

Landing at Point Rain is one of the best episodes of the whole series and yeah, it is season 2.

Season 1 and Season 2 are the worst of the Clone Wars. That doesn't mean they're bad though. They still contain a lot of good eps and arcs. And even though they're the worst, they shit on Rebels from a far height.

I agree that the Geonosis arc is the best from those seasons. Other good parts are the beginning of the series-long deathwatch/Mandalore arc and the Godzilla homage arc (which is just good fun). And again, a big reason why is that they allowed the stories to develop over multiple episodes.

I just finished watching the unfinished "Bad Batch" arc, and think that the adventures of Force 99 would make a brilliant Star Wars spin off movie.

I'm rewatching a couple of the Padme focused episodes, wanted to give them another chance. I have to say that Anakin and Padme's relationship is so much better here than in the movies. The relationship is of course very family-friendly but there is a playfulness and intimacy to their interactions that the films completely lacked.

So i just caught up on season 2 of rebels. Ezra is meh I"m sick of him good things coming because he doesn't listen to anyone. Also people not dying via blaster-shot is driving me crazy, and the lightsabers are used like Leonardo sword in TMNT
That means it's not being used lethally at all

Started Clone Wars a few days ago. Watching it in chronological order. It's fairly good, but I've not watched enough episodes to make a full assumption yet.

clone wars looked amazing at times, especially in the latter seasons

Got a bigger picture than that?
uh did you click on it? I put in quotes to make it smaller, but if you click it it gets back to the original size (1.800px × 816px), if you already did that, I'm not sure there is a bigger version than that, granted never really bothered to search for it, it's death watch so use search related to them might find something

edit: hmm reloaded page and it got smaller now for me to and clicking does nothing sec will rehost it
edit2: should be fixed now

Rebels will likely never look as good as this. With CW Lucas basically gave them a blank check with each episode having around $1 million budget. In fact, no 3D show will ever look as good as CW. ;-;

There was a time when I thought Kanan was a grown up and less douchy Petro, until I rewatched that arc and realized they had completely different eye and hair color. Still, might've been cool.

Makes me sad they're all probably dead. :(

Kanan was also slightly older than Petro at the time, and his name was Caleb Dume.

Is the Clone Wars worth watching even if I thought the movie that started it off was trash?

Pretty much everyone thought the movie was trash, which is part of the reason why the series had remained largely ignored by people over the years.

I mean, there was this scene, for recurring characters. Rebels isn't afraid to kill, but they usually leave that to explosions.

People have to remember that Rebels is on Disney XD while TCW was on Cartoon Network. One channel is way more willing to let shows get away with things than the other.

I remember one Rebels Recon episode where Andi asked Dave Filoni something about whether or not they would see more overt violence and he said "Not on Disney XD!" and laughed.

Oh, it's up on Netflix in Denmark, too. Time for a rewatch!

I'm gonna try the chronological order. It's funny, I never realized that the two Cristophsis episodes were from before the movie. But of course they are, same hexagon tiled road, except no Ahsoka. When else would they be?

It's appropriate that the Dark Disciple novel ends on Christophsis,
so that Ventress is introduced to us and taken away from us in the same place.

I hope that one day they go back and do some comics that take place in the months between AotC and TCW giving proper canonical introductions to Grievous and Ventress. So much of the Clone Wars depicted before the show came out was smushed into that few months, but now it's all wiped out and it just feels weird jumping in with these already-established characters.

I started watching season 1 and thought it was straight garbage. Decided to skip it entirely and just restarted from season 2 after reading some plot summaries. Feels like a good decision.

There's a lot of filler in this series, but holy shit does it have some good storytelling.

Just picked up Season 1 on Blu-ray. Does the The Clone Wars movie take place before Season 1? If so I'll pick that up before starting the seasons.

It takes place before the entire series except for two episodes - "Cat and Mouse" and "Hidden Enemy", which act as prequels to it. Hidden Enemy is from season 1, Cat and Mouse is from season 2. The show is somewhat out of order chronologically.

Yeah it's almost always off screen and a sith always does it. Also they seem to ignore lives lost in space battles the episode where hera was doing that dumb ass supply run and lost one of their ships due to her stupidity. Then she asked for more ships claiming that she can get at least one of them through. Like wtf hera you just don't seem to care about the lives of your allies at all,

Hmm, okay. Well, I will just watch the movie first then. Thank you!
