Just wanting to recommend Outlast. If you are even remotely a horror fan and have not yet played it, you simply can't miss it. It's currently 5 bucks, and the expansion is $2. For only 7 bucks, you get what is quite possibly the finest horror experience to grace the industry over the past decade.

I played through the opening on ps4 a while back and had to stop. Too scary.

The knife in RE1 is crap unless you're really skilled, its main use is to conserve bullets and knife zombies while down unless you're insanely skilled with it (some crazies do all-knife runs in REmake). But honestly? I say ditch the knife, unless you're skilled it's mostly useless and taking up an item inventory slot makes it not worth it. Do be careful with bullets, one thing of RE is learning when to kill and when to run or maneuver around. And I'll just say there will be some threats you'll learn of over the game that makes it so killing enemies is not always the best option.

Remember that all item boxes are connected. You can pick up any item you drop off at any item box at any other item box, so if not sure you'll need it, can drop it off and pick it up elsewhere. AND ONE MORE HINT, if you check your map, rooms you've visited you may notice are either red or a greyish. If a room is red, then that means there's an item in there you haven't picked up. If it's greyish, it means there's no other items to be picked up in that room. Can be helpful in the future if you don't know what to do.

Be interested to hear your progress through, first run will probably stick with you by the end of it.

I would suggest not holding on to any puzzle pieces (the diamond and emblem) until you reach a puzzle that calls for it so drop them off as soon as you can. I would also drop the knife as well if you're good on ammo.

I haven't played the remake but herbs should be plentiful in the environment so you can pick them up as you go along otherwise you just end up finding more herbs in the environment and puzzle pieces (which will just clutter up your inventory making managing them a pain).

Combine your herbs to free up more space and try to be somewhat stingy with them. Heal when you really need it (Caution (Orange)/Danger) rather than Caution (Yellow). Listen to your environment before moving around to see if there is anything in the room so you don't get attacked off screen.

Good tips, I'm gonna keep these in mind during my playthrough! Thank you guys.

I got the Jackbox Party Pack on a whim over the holidays when I was hanging out with some buddies and it's been absolutely incredible. So much so, that I'm considering picking up the second after only a few sessions with the first. Anyone have an opinion on how the two compare? I noticed that they both have Fibbage (but I'm guessing Fibbage 2 has all new prompts), and I'm not sure Bidiots can hold up to the fun I've had with Drawful.

Bought GTA V. Not sure if it will run well enough on my system but I guess we'll find out (Intel 980x, 24gb ram, GTX 590).

Counterpoint: I found it relied too much on cheap jump scares.

How is it better? Break it down like he did EL above. I got shit for my refunding AoW3 from you and others earlier this sale but no one told me how or why it's superior to any other 4X title out there. Might make me more inclined to purchase again.
At it's core, Age of Wonders 3 is just a huge improvement over the previous games. There's massive amounts of content, it's very polished overall, and there's some clever changes and additions to the AoW formula. I also think it's very purdy. It's not as razor-focused or tightly designed as Civilization, but it still manages to be far ahead of the fantasy 4Xes on the market, Endless Legend included.

But, really, if you know you don't like the gameplay, which is very much a game of war, then don't feel pressured to get it... again.

I only have 2 so I can't compare them directly. Fibbage 2 is just like fibbage except more. It's good fun. Bidiots is ok. I'd say that's the most confusing of the games to play actually, so it depends on your tolerance of games that make no sense the first couple of times you play it. On the plus side Bididots is the type of game that somebody who can't speak much english can play, since it requires mostly just drawing pictures. My mom enjoyed this one the most -- she is visiting right now.

On the other games...

Earwax is pretty great, actually. It isn't fair in the slightest, but it's a lot of fun. A lot of laughs, but since you get 6 random sounds sometimes your sounds will just suck and you gotta resign yourself to not winning that round.

Quiplash XL is another good one, but I feel like Fibbage and Quiplash are pretty similar generally. Both of the games are won by being a smart thinker. FWIW, one group loved Quiplash but hated Fibbage and the other group was the opposite. On a side note, we had to put a "no X Rated" rule one one Quiplash group cause it quickly descended into who could put the most shocking thing on the board. Don't really mind dirty jokes at all but it just got really gutter mouthed pretty fast by game 3 with some alcohol.

Bomb Corps is kinda weird. It's definitely the hardest game of the bunch. I enjoy it but it's not for everybody. It's tough to find groups who can be good at the game because you need to have both excellent communication skills as well as good senses of humor when you inevitably fail. It's probably the most gamey of the bunch, so if your friends actually play other games it might be good. My holiday bunches have been groups of non video gamers so it didn't go as well.

Do we seriously only have Silent Hill: Homecoming on Steam? Were there never any others in the series released on the platform?

The majority of the series is on PC but this was before Steam was a big thing so they're disc bound.

There was a thread here about "making a better HD collection" that was basically applying some fixes and tweaks to the old PC versions.

Wasn't that only Silent Hill 2 and 3?
Now I have to dig them up on disc.

Oh woah, I just found a used copy of No One Live Forever 2 on disc. I never got that one, as I only have the original.

The thread was about 2 and 3 because that's what's in the collection, but 1 and 4 are on PC too.

Edit: NVM, 1 is on Sony platforms.

I can't take screenshots in Clannad?

How am I supposed to spam my activity feed with nothing but out of context gameplay pictures and immature comments?

It's always been invite only

I find that hard to believe, since I have been in the group for a while and don't know anyone who is on GAF. But, maybe I did get invited by someone.

EDIT: I found my answer, one of the announcements in the group says it went private in 2012 (!!!). Didn't realize I'd been in it for so long.

Is Dragon's Dogma really similar to Dark Souls? I've been reading the steam community for the game and a lot of people bring up Dark/Demon Souls in comparison. I get that they aren't the same exact type of games but they seem to share similar fundamentals..right? Because if true I'm even more hyped for it now that I preordered it. Can't wait for the 15th.

It's okay. We'll just have to take our own screens and place them in the Steamapps screen folder for the game and upload them outself.

It's okay...

No, it's not like DS at all really, aside from being action RPGs where the combat is good.

DD plays like DMC-lite for most melee classes. The world is open, kinda halfway between Skyrim and DS (it's widely navigable like Skyrim, but there are legitimate threats and hard encounters like DS). As well, the dungeons have a DS-lite feel to them. The quest structure is like a classic WRPG. It has traditional towns, worthless NPCs, job boards, and busywork tasks like your standard WRPG. It has uncontrollable followers kind of like Skyrim (but different). You can also crawl on big beasts like Shadow of the Colossus.

DD's kind of it's own thing. It has a lot of problems but the combat and encounters have the potential to be incredibly satisfying.

I personally found a lot of the idiosyncrasies to add up to a negative experience on balance, but I think I'm in the minority. That said, the PC version looks to alleviate or minimize some of those idiosyncrasies and it'll probably end up being one of only 3 games I've ever double dipped on. As soon as the first mod to remove encumbrance is released...

Out of interest, went to howlongtobeat.com and searched for a PC game which would take longest to beat in completionist mode. I kind of expected some JRPG, but right now the crown belongs to (guess what?)
Grim Dawn
. (On second thought, that's not a big surprise, and I guess comparing by main story length would avoid an obvious skew towards such games. Still interesting.)

...and with "Into the Stars" I think I'm done unless someone buys one of my $15-$30 foils!

Another sale where I um... and ah... and still don't buy Jurassic Park, Space Run, Jagged Alliance Flashback, Plague Inc., Endless Legend, MM X, Prison Architect and the like, all that have spent far to long on my wishlist.

Is PhysX really that demanding, or is Borderlands 2 poorly optimized? I'm playing with this settings:

Fullscreen
Vsync ON
Capped 72 FPS
1920x1080
Ambient Occlusion OFF
Depth of Field ON
Anisotropic Filtering 4x
Bullet Decals High
Foliage Distance Far
Texture Quality High
Game Detail High
View Distance Medium
Physx Effects Low
FXAA ON

I did some research, and draw distance and physx are the more demanding settings. I have around 60 fps, with drops to 40's. When there is a lot of fire it can drop to even 30's. The lowest I remember in some very demanding areas it dropped to like 25.
I'm playing on GT72S, these are my specs, game is installed on my HDD.

Should I change something in my Nvidia settings, or is just the game/physx effects?

___

Currently testing with everything maxed out, unlimited fps but with gsync. Runs at 75 -72(75 is my screen max), drops to 60 and sometimes 30's when there are a lot of particles. Like blowing up the motor riders(Grinder Bike).

Since this is the unofficial Nintendo thread, should I spend 48 dollars on all of the stage and character dlc for Smash Brothers? Crazy Nintendo charges more to get both the 3DS and Wii U versions >_>

Dragon's Dogma was my favorite game of last gen and I love the Souls Series/Borne and I wouldn't consider them very similar at all. DD's combat is much more in line with a character action game in terms of speed and can vary heavily depending on whether you're playing ranged, melee, or magic build. You're constantly climbing monsters, getting thrown into the air, and so on. Which is incredible but obviously not comparable to the grounded feel of Souls. It also has a true open world with indoor environments being cave and mine systems for the most part.

Still, be excited for Dragon's Dogma. Really bizarre quests and incredible attention to the detail in the character building. For example, if you build a really lanky character they will have more stamina but due to their weight they are more likely to be picked up by flying creatures whereas a fat character will bring the monster down to the ground if it tries. Short characters also have the worry of having their lanterns splash in the water just by walking around caves which can be a killer during battle. Just a great, great game.

Anyone else having problems with paypal dding to Steam Wallet? :( Worked a few days ago.

Think of it as $48 the Sakura developers aren't getting.

That's how I justify all my purchases now.

Why don't you turn off physx and test your fps again?

I bought the Cloud DLC. Still waiting for the others to get a sale or price drop. I'm definitely getting the Bayonetta DLC though cuz...you know you want to touch her.

I bought the WiiU/3DS bundle packs that had playable characters in them so Bundles #1, #2 and #5. Bundles 3 and 4 were just Mii costumes and a level or two. Those can wait for a sale.

Is there even a single pack for all character DLC? I looked at the official site and only saw some strange combos (Cloud & Bayonetta, Lucas + Mii Costumes or something)

I just started Valkyria Chronicles. This game is awesome! No stupid leveling up or equipment (yet). Thank goodness. I just want to play.

The consensus seems to be like a game that is the best of many worlds and very good combat. First time I ever read up on a game where comparisons are all over the place. I've seen everything from Skyrim, Dragon Age, Dark Souls, Monster Hunter to even DMC and Shadow of Colussus. Sounds crazy good :D I'm excited.
