Awesome Games Done Quick 2016: January 3rd - 10th.

So from this stream I learned that the Japanese version of NG3 has you take less damage, gives you unlimited continues, and has more checkpoints. Sounds like Japan got the super easy version.

Yeah. Japanese Ninja Gaiden 3 is by far the easiest of the NES trilogy and US NG3 is the toughest.

Japanese version also has passwords.
IMO the US version should have had two difficulties like Alien Soldier. Super easy (JPN) and Super hard (USA). Removing the unlimited continues was a dick move.

yeah kinda crazy beings they liked to ease up the games for the US audience back in those times.

Thank you

This game was probably pretty back then but those backgrounds are so loaded with stuff it hurts my eyes

Even back then I didn't like the look of 3 much. I prefer the more natural environments and ancient temples of the first two instead of the weird organic and technological aesthetic 3 received.

Batman: The Video Game, is the SunSoft game, right? Just to be clear.

Because i loved thzat game but since here we only knew of it from bootleg cartridges never knew until very recently of it publisher/developer.

Correct, the NES version. This should be a spectacular race.

Eh. I remember it being mostly the opposite.
Ninja Gaiden 3
Contra: Hard Corps' removal of the health meter.
A lot of games where Japan's "normal" difficulty setting became the USA's "easy".
Dynamite Headdy's significant difficulty bump.

A lot of this was done to counter the rental market aka "beat the game in a weekend".

This also extended to a few arcade games.
Konami USA had a nasty habit of removing health-restoring items and changing mechanics around to make their beatemups eat more quarters (The Simpsons, X-Men, etc)

suppose it's just the games you played, the real super mario bros. 2 wasn't released in US because they thought it would be too hard, and there was an easier mode added in Mega Man 2 where the japanese just had the harder one.

Man this entire segment has been ACES. So many awesome runs, definately the highlight of the week so far.

Blaster Master coming up.. GO FEASEL, DO IT FOR GARBAGIO

What the hell does this game have to do with Batman? Like... okay, you play as Batman. And the final boss is the Joker. But literally nothing else in the game bears any resemblance to anything in Batman '89, or really anything else Batman related. And why can the Joker summon lightning? This definitely looks like a game that was developed as something else and had Batman slapped on late in development.

Welcome to NES games in general, where nothing makes sense!

Are you new to licensed NES games

get ready for everyone to use scrolling glitches for major skips.
This reminds me of how you could glitch up and down through the doors in the original Metroid. Was that ever useful in any way for speed runs in that game?

Not sure what these scrolling glitches are that you mention btw, just made me think of the above when I read it.
