Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Steam pre-order is LIVE

I preordered the game and I'm so pumped for it! I have a few questions that I was hoping someone could answer. I almost exclusively play melee based characters, but I keep hearing about how amazing the spell effects are in this game; I've seen some of them too! I was wondering if a melee character would make me miss out on the flashiness of the spells that the game is known for. Are there any cool looking and fun to use melee abilities?

Also, can I give my character abs? I hear the character creator is pretty good, lol.

This looks awesome and I'll definitely use that build on my first playthrough.

Pre-load almost done. While waiting, I made an inputmapper DS4 profile for DDDA to use those keyboard shortcut buttons.

Left Dpad = L2 (Draw/sheathe weapon)
L2 = Unbounded (does nothing by itself)
L2 + Triangle = NUM1
L2 + Square = NUM2
L2 + Cross = NUM3
L2 + Circle = NUM 4
L2 + L1 = NUM 5

The NUM keys can be set to lantern on/off, use stamina item, use healing item, use eternal ferrystone, etc., as per the user. The previous function of the left dpad was "Command pawn(s) to help", but the right dpad does the same thing. So I changed the left dpad to draw/sheathe weapon instead.

This is pending in-game testing, but I feel it should work fine. If anyone wants to use the profile, they can download it here. This profile needs to be saved in (C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\InputMapper\Profiles)

Nice. I'm hoping that the shortcuts will be available on controller anyway though, as I don't plan on giving up my Xbone Elite controller. It will be worth it for assigning L3 to a paddle alone. It was all the sprinting on PS3 that made me realise my sticks were wearing away.

So having never played this game and typically rolling with melee character what class is most fun to play?
A great thing about this game is that it's no real inconvenience to switch classes and try new things. Personally I like to leave spell casting to pawns as they can sit back and cast while I distract enemies by getting up close and being in the action. In my experience the pawns don't always stop you from taking hits and being knocked out of your charge (there are abilities to help with this though, you can really customise builds.

To give a more specific answer, to quickly go over classes there are 2 pure classes of each type (archer, soldier, mage) and 3 hybrid of 2 styles. All except pure mage have melee weapons. Archer classes have daggers (my favourite) but no shields, soldier classes have shields and swords (or 2 handed weapons - the gif of the heavy overhead swing attack is 2 handed), Mystic Knight (mage soldier) has maces, and Assassin (archer + soldier) can use nearly anything from either base class. It just means a lot of weapon switching.

What does the Dark Arisen version improves? I played the normal version on PS3 and it was a solid 8. Fantastic gameplay but pretty poor lore and characters.

Well, since I've played and beaten it before, I think I'm going to try min/max for fun. I know it's unnecessary, but it's something I want to try.

I'm torn between playing mystic knight again for PC or rolling the assassin this time.
Decisions..

Why not both since you can just switch at anytime anyway?

So I've never played Dragon's Dogma before but heard good things about the combat. Got some noob questions, any good guides anywhere regarding builds and such (I generally play rogue or mage classes in rpgs/mmos, though have dabbled with sword and board types in the past). Are you only able to create 1 pawn per playthrough? Can you customize your pawn like your own character, equip them with gear and such?

Cost me a whole whopping 5 dollars. And there isn't another game on PC till march that I would buy. I just hope this is good for me as an action rpg lover.

Guys what class should I play. I like things that take skill, creativity and keep my fingers busy
You can switch classes so it doesn't matter

I am so hyped for this. I really hope it lives up to my expectation. I just have a question. Should I play on hard? I've never played the game before but I'm no stranger to an RPG and I love Dark Souls if thats any help

First, tons and for every melee ability. Daggers allow you to zip around enemies like a badass, two-handed weapons let you stop chimeras in their tracks, magic knights allow you to use some interesting weapon magic with 1-hand swords and maces, assassin's can put down gunpowder bombs with their 1-h swords, leaving a trail of gunpowder as they move around and setting it off at will(the gunpowder itself will also hurt enemies), and 1-h swords in general have some pretty cool combos and attacks, not to mention shields can be used to great effect.

Personally, I don't really like using mages because of how long it takes them to cast their spells. I just make my pawn a mage so I can see the awesome abilities every once in awhile.

Oh, and second, yes, yes you can.

Wait what? The main Theme of the game isn´t actually in the game?

Copyright issue apparently. We'll have to wait for mods to save us.

I wouldn't really recommend it. Hard mode is really geared more toward having a badass character build, then getting your shit wrecked from there. It's basically meant just for new game plus.

If you're really eager to have a hard time of it, make a mage and go exploring. :3

Is this the original Dragon's Dogma plus added content?

I thought Dark Arisen was another quest, like add on content?

It is the original game plus Bitterblack Isle (the area added in Dark Arisen) plus various changes added with DA, like the modifications to the fast travel system.

Dark Arisen includes the original DD, but also has an expansion worth of content. It's like what Capcom does with monster hunter.
