I'm hyped for this game. Anything I should do to prepare for it? I literally can't wait and want to do anything I can to get myself ready by the time it launches.

Besides the combat, how does this game compare to something like Skyrim? Are the quests interesting? Is it fun to progress your character? Is loot interesting?

Goddamn it guys, my hype is building. I do believe for the first time ever I'll be in an OT actually playing a game on release. Catch me there, never played the Dark Arisen expansion before, so it'll be a treat. I do wonder how the ENB is gonna affect this game, it should give it some major graphical improvement.

You could look at the wiki class pages to figure out which classes you'll want to level for augments for whatever your main class is, or just to familiarize yourself with them in general. Other than that not much really, maybe just figuring out what you want your character and main pawn to look like and their "theme" and stuff.

I feel like Capcom should consider making their PC ports shittier. That way I can get to play them sooner >.>

This will be the longest week of the year D=

The first sentence was also a joke.

Those questions you are asking and Skyrim are mutually exclusive.

well the fact is that most of your enjoyment will come out of the combat combined with the rpg mechanics of armor/party management. If you don't care for combat but care more for interesting quests or complex trees then...

It still has a sense of adventure and role playing that I don't think should be discounted.

Preload!

I am extremely hyped about this.

Not sure what class I'll start off with, but if trying out different classes is so easy and even recommended, it doesn't really matter. Maybe strider first.

Oh, the sense of role playing is fantastic and I'd also say that it has one of, if not THE, best character creator tools in single player rpgs.

I'm just saying that if he wants more of a strong narrative vs one of the most fun combat systems in rpgs then I don't know what to tell him as the game might not deliver.

This is a game that is uniquely fun to play more than anything else. Character stuff is fascinating and there are a ton of different ways to play the game and interesting methods to interact with the mechanics. The narrative of the game is all in service to the gameplay and as a result most of the interesting points will happen as a result of play more than anything that might be verbalized to you. Experimenting will let you discover lots of fun ways to play.

I would say that Dragon's Dogma is the better game compared to Skyrim regarding all the questions you mentioned. That's not me saying everything is amazing or something, but for sure better than Skyrim.

Just started preloading, so excited! I really hope I don't expect too much because of all the praise the game received/receives :0

I think I'll do Mystic Knight, I did Magick Archer for most of Dark Arisen last time and while it was great, I don't feel like doing it again. Will probably switch to it if I get bored though.

Probably gonna do hard mode solo again.

Search youtube for the character creation music and let it wash over you.

I wish they had released a demo for the character creator, so that you can import it when the full game releases (similar to Saints Row).

Now it's just waiting.

And super hot guys!

Fuck, I think I'll make a male Arisen this time. Or maybe a gay woman. I made female Arisens before but the male love interest options are all terrible. :(

Say, should have some sort of GAF pawn exchange thing going on? Somewhere where we can post our pawn IDs somehow?

Being able to princess carry the duchess in slutty armor is just the best.

Selecting "premade" parts > fucking around with sliders for 40 minutes trying to create someone that looks like a normal human.

That's why DD's character creation was so good.

What's with the hard on for incomprehensible sliders that this industry got?

The ones I saw are pretty comprehensible and they are there to offer consumers choice.

I'm too lazy for them but I understand why they are there.

You didn't like Fournival? I thought Dad bods were in for GAF, he also is an actual dad. /s

I let that guy hang just to see if I could haha. Funny thing is that you can find his daughter hanging out with the bums in the sewers after that and asks for money so she can buy her house back. Tough luck brat! Should have given me that gold idol the first time!

It's actually the illusion of choice, many times.

I'm in love with character creation in games, i'd put it in any game if i could, so i don't mind spending my sweet time creating a character, but often times, i feel like my time is not being respected in these character creations.

In DD you have a vast selection of all the main features a human face can have (including options for various ethnicities, though it's lacking in the hair department, in that sense) and then you can fine tune a little bit to your liking, with simple, 5 steps sliders.
With these simple, reliable, and easily replicable controls, you can create a LARGE amount of characters (also height and weight and musculature, something many games lack).

Meanwhile games that use sliders just have you fiddle around very vague definitions that all influence each other, making it very hard to handle a simple modification, without ruining the rest of the face; moreover, often times they put a lot of sliders in, but the actual change you can expect in the base model is minimal, so you end up fiddling with the sliders trying to nail down an idea for a face you have, but you realize after 20 minutes that really, you're just slightly modifying what is already set in stone, and if anything, making it more grotesque.

Sliders are an unnatural, unintuitive, and ultimately limited way to have character creation, and they should disappear for good.

Either implement a vast selection of premade options, like Dragon's Dogma (and let's be honest, human faces are not that varied, you can get around to most archetypes this way) or have a "push and pull" mechanic, like EVE online, Black Desert, and The Sims 4; which achieves what sliders wanted to do, but in an intuitive manner that actually makes sense.

I like the character creator, I remember making a few different style characters

shit was awesome

there were a lot of lolis in the rift tho

oh god I remember how small those ingame photo mode screenshots were

Just pre-ordered this from GMG with the 25% off code. Already played some of the PS3 version, but I couldn't stand the terrible performance. Sad to hear the Berserk armor isn't in this version though, since I made Guts and Casca as my character and pawn last time and am probably going to do the same again :p.
Are the pre-order goodies available yet when you pre-load or do we have to wait till the game releases?
