David Bowie Passed Away

It's been about 9 hours since I heard the news and it still hasn't really sunk in. Random tweets, articles, posts on here and other sites are still making me well up.

There was no one like him and there never will be. Think this feeling of disorientation and of feeling lost is going to be with me for a while.

Going to get a six pack of Red Stripe, get the tunes on and have a little boogie round my living room.

Be was the best of the best.

So it seems like David had had at least one other heart attack after his one in 2004 and apparently had another 6(!) whilst fighting cancer.

It takes a man who lives through enthusiasm and passion to simply keep working on music as the body is cultivating that type of experience.

People have their whole life winded with just one heart attack. The dude had at least six while having cancer? Or is that a total of six in his life? One already is enough for people.

I can't say I'm a massive fan like a lot of you here but I loved him in Labrinth one of my favourite films ever

I've only really heard his massive hits but one thing that stood out for me was how he always experimented wIth different styles and genres he never really stuck with one particular sound
 
Fuck it, I'm going to drive around and look for the Five Years vinyl boxset.



I need something to deal with this and no one is delivering the goddamn thing or even the Blackstar vinyl.
 
Hours later, and the collections of remembrance from Bowie's peers are pouring in and helping ease the utter gut punch this news was for me.

But, that Brian Eno piece about Bowie's final e-mail to him... Silent tears. :(
 
It was kind of surreal to see how almost everybody at my office, regardless of age, was kind of shocked at this news today. Everyone knows Bowie, and everyone has a song of Bowie they really like.

I still can barely believe he's dead, the timing with his album release makes this thing just so surreal. Had a huge talk with the guy at the record store about Bowie just last Saturday when I picked up the vinyl. I at least hope he got he news on how incredibly well received his album is. What a way to go, Blackstar is a god-tier album.

Some of my coworkers don't know who he is. That bums me out. The work safe XM station has played Let's Dance and Modern Love so far.
They liked it, so that made me smile at least.

Good luck man. When this kinda thing happens, everything associated with them gets snapped up. Decided to finally pick up Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence, and now you can't find it for under $30.

I've never felt so sad about the death of an artist. I mean, I usually feel empathy for the departed and their families, but this hurt incredibly harder than I'd have thought. It was weirdly comforting to find my wife crying about it when I got home. She's a huge fan too, obviously.
The world will be a bit smaller and less colorful without him.

Ugh, these people are awful. I guess being an interstellar cunt about it is one way to commemorate the passing of such a bright star.
 
Blackstar is brilliant. I Can't Give Everything Away is so poignant.

Listening to Earthling right now. I know it's usually low on people's lists but I've always loved that album.
 
Honestly, this is the first celebrity death that has actually affected me. My god, he was amazing. When I was 9 or 10 I told everyone I was going to marry David Bowie when I grew up.
That didn't happen :(
 
Spotify has actually curated a pretty good playlist today. I've always tried making my own Bowie playlist and always get overwhelmed with the amount of material to sift through, but this one flows pretty well.
 
Geez the first few pages of this thread where everyone thought it was a hoax are hard to read...

Listening to the "This is Bowie" playlist on Spotify, pestering my Dad to get his vinyls down from the attic for the weekend so we can pay tribute in the proper manner. Man, The Next Day was such a cracking album. Like how many artists who were that big back in the day can boast consistent quality? (Not that Bowie ever would have)

Maybe it's just because how epic, dramatic, and fatalistic some of his bigger hits were, but so many songs of his making me cry today. Starman, Ashes to Ashes, Life on Mars?, and Changes bringing tears.

You know, it's pretty cool that he put that album out, so that people were talking about him before he died, rather than it coming out of the blue. My FB has had a lot of comments about Blackstar over the weekend before the news hit.
 
Rest in peace Bowie.

Started listening to Black Star after hearing today's news. Lazarus and Black Star are phenomenal. You can't help but be in awe that someone 69 years old and fighting cancer manages to create such an amazing parting gift to the world. Releasing it on his birthday, and maintaining his fight against his illness until after his final work has been released. Nothing but respect and admiration.
 
We've lost so many of the greats over the last few years. Bowie is such an influential figure and up there with all the greats. Discovered his music in my teens and he's been ever-present in my life since. It's a sad day, no doubt, but it seems like he knew his time was coming and he was prepared for it. The new album just came out and he turned 69 a couple of days ago. Glad to see there's been such an outpouring of grief and celebration, he truly deserves it.
