I think that the lack of George Lucas for rebels impacted the photography of that show. It doesn't have the same composition at all and that composition is the key to visually identifying what Star Wars is.
It certainly impacted the living hell out of the budget... ;-;

Yeah. I don't necessarily agree that there's a fundamental problem with the style - there are some really beautiful McQuarrie-inspired shots throughout and on the whole I think it works - it's just that the overall product isn't as visually refined as TCW and I'm guessing that probably comes down to a budget/time issue.

Anyway, caught up on this show the other day and despite my better judgement I'm going to say it: The Seventh Sister is kind of hot. Maybe it's the hat.

I've been real slow getting into the Clone Wars show. I liked the style and promise from the first but it was just really flimsy. Finally, a couple episodes from the end of Season 1 I'm starting to get it. I like how they're digging into Clone identity politics and issues of their disposability and all. I really like how there was a traitor. This whole "Padme and Ahsoka trapped in a virus-infested facility and doing one last mission before they die" arc was cool. I liked that little pacifist Quaker monkey guy.

Yo but. Why is this show got all its ladies being sexy, it's weird. That Twi'lek chick. Ventriss. Even Ahsoka in that lil tube top. There was even some sexy babe pin-up poster in a clone barracks at one point. It's like kind of cool because sexuality has always been super downplayed in Star Wars things so it's kind of interesting if they wanna explore that but this is a kids show and also they're not exploring sexuality at all yet, they're just kind of having babes around all the time.

Dude, don't buy the movie. It's on Netflix. If for some reason you don't have access to Netflix, skip it. Do not pay money for the movie.

Well, I rented it. Movie was not terrible I guess. It was decent IMO. One part got a good laugh out of me. When the droid comes up to Ventress and tells her that Dooku wants a report. She gets pissed and tosses the droid off the cliff while it yells "Whyyyyyyyyy". Those droids can be pretty comical. Lol

Just watched the movie and first episode of season one. Quite enjoyed them to be honest, so it's great to hear that these are considered to be way worse than the rest of the series.

Yoda straight nope-ing Ventress' lighsabers was great.

The style is in no way shape or form the problem. It's just they noticeably have a much lower budget. You can tell with the animation, the textures, the lighting etc. It's just not very pretty.

I just finished season 5 of Clone Wars...that ending packed such a huge punch, it's amazing how far the show came compared to some of its earlier episodes.

Everything focused on the clones or their surroundings was my favourite part of the show. The interchangeable cannon fodder clones from the movies were a huge waste of potential. I especially liked the conversation in The Hidden Enemy between Rex, Cody and Slick because they all make very good points.

TFA also suffered from this, but it's not a deal breaker

A good look at the multiple light systems, sequences-shot and découpage of the sequences actually shows that this is the best Star Wars yet photography-wise. George Lucas never was really good at it, it is terribly academistic in V/VI/prelogy, and the lighting / camera movements didn't age well nor did they brought shots that you clearly remember.

This may have been a bold faced lie, but apparently that was George? Like at least the Ahsoka outfit (she gets a better one latter on).

Also if you like the ending of Season 1, things are just gonna keep getting better.

I always found weird that animated Padme has a huge ass while irl Portman's body while very pretty has more elegant proportions.

I know they changed some models (like Yoda's) did they change Padme's? I remember her lips being gigantic at the start and I'm not sure if I just got used to them or what lol

This show really tested the limits of what can be done in a "kid's show". It gets pretty violent, saved only by cutting the camera away at the right moment.

I thought initially maybe Filoni was a lonely nerd but then I found out he was married, so I guess he just likes curvy women. Unless it was George's doing.

The best example of how pervasive this is is when you get to the episodes with some teenage Mandalorian students, and then when we revisit them in season 5, which should be no more than like a year later, they've all gone through super puberty and the girls look like hot adult women. It's weird.

Watching "Senate Murders" and when its suggested that Bail accompany Padme on her adventure, she snaps at him "I don't NEED a guardian!". To the man who will be her daughter's guardian.

Also oh my god that's
Mon Mothma
isn't it.

EDIT: later in the episode, Sheev lays it on thick with the "Democracy is so important" routine. So I guess the irony is strong with this one.

Yeah, and I just saw the episode with the terrorist's suicide on Mandalore, and it didn't cut away by much. Just a split second.

I just finished the arc in season 4 when ventriss joins the bounty hunters. Ventriss is such a bad ass!!! About to watch the brothers arc.

Maybe it's best to use spoiler tags, since there are people reading the thread who are still watching the show.

I recently finished the first season of Rebels, and it was better than I expected actually. The trailer for s2 has me hyped. I hope it finishes up soon and it's not too long a wait for the br set.

If you own the DVDs/Blu-rays of TCW, I highly recommend watching the behind the scenes features. This was a talented and passionate group of guys and gals and it is evident throughout.

I started watching Clone Wars on Netflix. I heard it gets more dramatic and focuses a lot on story and character development in later seasons, definitely looking forward to that.

But how is Anakin a Jedi Master with a padawan? Am I missing something?

He's not a Jedi Master, just a Knight (he doesn't ever become a Master, he gets rejected in Episode III).

Anakin is only a Jedi Knight by rank, so normally he wouldn't have a Padawan. Since so many Jedi were getting killed by the Clone Wars, the Council decided to step up training new ones. So some Knights were given Padawans to train.

Almost done with S2. The Zillow beast episodes were good. The three part
Boba
arc to end the season is great. I was surprised to see
Bossk
. Guess his species has a longer life span than humans.

Yeah that's what I thought. I knew in the movies he never attained that title. Its just in the show I was hearing 'Master anakin' or something like that

Ahh makes sense now, thanks

I just finished Season 1. In the OP here there's a kind of viewing guide. I think I'd recommend going by that (and watching the foot-noted episodes as well as the highlighted episodes) if you struggle with it. There was a bit of a mid season slog I only got through by running it in the background and barely watching while I played my 3DS. There's definitely worthwhile stuff in the series but there's also definitively some disposable stuff.

Anakin is not a Jedi Master but he is Ahsoka's master. Also, Padawans and younglings call their elders "Master".

Kind of confusing now that I'm sitting here thinking about it.

Got back into watching this recently after taking a break. I reached season 4, which had a rough beginning, I really didn't care for that small Mon Kalamari story arc. But that Master Krell story arc? God damn, that's good stuff. The Clone Troopers make this show.

Best arc of the series.

I felt the same. The Umbara arc almost feels like a reward for going through that first arc in season 4.

Just finished season 2 of my Clone Wars bluray rewatch. Show is absolutely beautiful, they really do an incredible job of creating all these different places with a unique feel and atmosphere. Lighting and composition specifically are impeccable. The Boba arc is not the strongest season finale but it has its moments. It also highlights the problems I have with Rebels. I'm fine with it not looking as good which was to be expected considering the lower budget, the real issue is the lack of compelling characters. Even most of the sidecharacters in the Boba arc like Plo Koon, Aurra Sing and Hondo are more interesting than the crew in Rebels. I still thorougly dislike Ezra, I'm disappointed that they haven't done more with Sabine and I couldn't care less about Zeb. Kanan and Hera are alright but they can't carry it. Still hopeful that they'll make good on it though, the potential is there I'd say.

The best part about clone wars is Anakin's voice actor. He makes Anakin sound authoritative and generally likeable. Stark contrast to annoying Hayden Christiansen and his hissy fits.

Ugh, I just caught a bit of Rebels (which I'm mostly trying to avoid for now until I get there), and Hondo is in it... Why does he suck so bad in Rebels? I just watched the CW episode with him from the
Boba
arc at the end of season 2. He's a super cold blooded badass in that show. So why is he a comic relief character in his old age? I guess if it happened to DeNiro it can happen to anyone.

Is it me, or do all the characters in Clone Wars look like wooden marionettes but without the strings? It took me awhile to get used to that style, but it was jarring at first.
