The Division - 15 minutes of new gameplay

One thing I noticed from that video is he put down a turret and the AI was just getting wrecked by it and didn't even turn to look at the turret. They didn't take cover or anything either. Why even bother wasting bullets on AI when you can just plop down a turret and let it do all the work? Maybe they do react to them and it was just that one firefight.

Jack Frags used it very effectively in the Dark Zone too. If agroup was out of position, he would pop the turrent to secure the kill, then use it to protect him while he finishes that player off and anyone who comes to revive.

So the Dark Zone you isn't necessarily PVP only?

Yes, it has late-game PVE content as well.

Maybe they will have world-event PVE bosses in a PVP zone similarly to MMOs. That design is fine with me, but I'd imagine it will alienate PVE players.

I mean, yea, but it's a game. It comes back to the old argument of "are any military shooters actually realistic?" You respawn in any multiplayer shooter, you don't limp when you get shot once in the leg, you run out guns a' blazin' in those games. They're all games and they all make sacrifices to realism based on the type of game it is. This is a loot based rpg/3rd person shooter hybrid. That's just how it's going to work.

I can understand it. It's a realistic setting, a shooter and a Tom Clancy game. All signs point to a more realistic sense of time to kill. The more RPG-style loot strength is contrary to the setting quite drastically. I personally think it can work and I'm fine with some suspension of belief but I can understand the people that have trouble getting past it.

Just make the rpg components way more trivial (ala dark souls) while preserving them and reduce time to kill drastically. Also make differences between weapons in rate of fire, accuracy, length and recoil, not on damage and such.

Its such a missed opportunity to make a good mix.

I will be trying it nevertheless to make sure its good or not for me, but man do I feel down watching these videos :(

Edit: Am I the only one who remembers firsts gameplays with enemies going down with a few bullets? What happened with all that? Couldn't they go with the way to do things used for R6:Siege?

Well LMGs compared to SMGs have both FR and recoil differences yadayada.

But you also need to consider the RPG sense, low enemies takes 2-3 bullets while end game ones (or high level) takes a bit more as they have bodyarmor and such.

After all its a RPG with guns instead of sword and bows.

Hoping for good Vita remote play support with this... I'll need to play away from the TV if I hope to play this as much as I'd like.

Its all in the balance, I just feel this game will be so much better as a TPS with RPG elements than an RPG with shooter elements.

It feels they go for the 2nd instead of the first and its such a pity because, as I said, I dont think the first videos were going that way.

And again, the 2nd way of designing is much easier to milk with microtransactions and payed currency. Gamers want bigger damage numbers and that generates revenue.

Who said you can't kill an enemy if it's such and such levels above you? If you're fighting a higher level enemy of course you won't just one shot it.

If any of this stuff is bothering you this much now then I highly doubt this is a game you're gonna enjoy.

I would be fine by this as long as it doesnt get ridiculous.

I'm fine with an enemy two levels above me having some serious armor and getting a -50% reduction on body damage because of it.

I wont be ok with a 2 levels above me enemy sponging 3 bullets to the head because "RPG".

Again, better design and less lazyness, make the enemy have some serious visible armor (helmets, body protection, etc) and let know the gamer through visuals that that's a though enemy resistant to bullets, dont let a number on top of he's head make me believe that while the guy is fighting in a hood and some jeans.

Of course. I meant exclusively that.

Again, shooting at an enemy and not being able to kill because its two levels above you its retarded. Simply find better design.

I see what you're saying, but i found myself really liking these number games. And as i grown older i appreciate the longer TTK games compared to the twitch shooters as it allows for more tactical gameplay over pure first hit kill.

So in my case i think this'll be really cool. Beta on PC will tell in my case, but damn have i waited long for this -_-

In the field hospital mission (40 min) dude is just tanking everything.

The sniper session (45 min) is gonna make people cry.

Yup, sniper seems pretty weak.

It's an RPG, he probably needs to find a better sniper, or add mods to it. It's not the only sniper rifle in the game, so giving a blanket statement of "sniper seems pretty weak" misses the whole point.

In another part of the video he was one shotting people in the head with a sniper rifle.

No matter what game we get at launch I expect this to take a Destiny approach in the long haul in that it can only get better with more content and the devs talking to their community to give them what they want.

If no raids exist at launch I'll be bummed, but they can add one or two in for the first big "expansion" I'm sure they already have on the books.

I think it's a no brainer at this point from all the positive press that this game will sell in line or above Ubi's expectations so it will have long legs.

It would take a massive screw up on the beta side to sour peoples tastes to do a 180 from the hype train we have going now.

Does the game have an in-game friend list? Or will you need to depend on your PSN/Live friend list like Destiny?

Getting more and more interested in this game. I would need to watch the friend list video. I have GAF on my friends list but rarely play with anyone so that might be a deal breaker. Game looks fun.

Be a nice change for a modern aaa game to break the unwritten pvp rule of:

1 shotgun up close insta kills
2 sniper headshot always kills

I can't help thinking that this game has maybe lost the point of it's source material.

The Division can't have laser swords, or alien tentacle demons, because that's unrealistic. And yet, the Division can have a player shoot an NPC wearing a cloth hat 10 times in the head before they die...

Would this game be 'worse' if it lost the 'Tom Clancy' moniker and gained giant alien centipedes? Maybe there's something we haven't seen yet, but I do wonder if the license is actually dragging this game down.

Shooting a full auto M4 point blank to a human for 4 seconds and having him move to the next cover just throws me off any possible immersion the graphics and new york's recreation of this game would have going for itself. My brain is simply going to refuse that.

I was thinking about that too. It seems kinda strange in this setting. There was one fight in Uncharted 2? I think where you fought against a guy in a tanktop and you could only hurt him with your fists. Or in other games, where you shoot the guy in the food, he reacts correctly with pain and limping, but after 2 seconds everything seems as good as new..

As others have said, maybe it will be easier in The Division because I know it will be an RPG. Definitely can't wait for the beta.

Depending on reviews, I'll probably pick it up. Seems like a good time killer. I just don't have any friends. Same reason I didn't pick up Destiny.

That's what im most worried about i dont wanna have to play this alone. My friends are sports junkies thats all they play.

The destinyGAF-thread is pretty nuts in terms of activity. If you need players for something, go post there and the problem is solved..

Im pretty sure there will be a thread for The Division on GAF as well so "not having any friends" is no excuse for not buying destiny or the division :)

Why? Then they might as well not be Snipers or Shotguns.

Becuase walking out around a corner and being hit by a sniper hardscoping a corner is done by every other game.

I like the idea of engagements not being over in 0.3 seconds, requiring tactics or a group to take people down.

Sure not everyone will want a great to break these unwritten rules, but i think it had the potential to make it more tactical.

I went from 5 friends to 80 because of DGAF.

yeah, the few times I've called out to destinyGAF (or similar gameGAFs) it has been nothing short of amazing. You won't have any problems finding people to play with once divisionGAF gets going :)

None of the areas we saw in 2013 are in the game......damn

this blows my mind though.....We are nearly a whole games map away from even reaching brooklyn. All that original area we saw will be DLC or an expanion.....look how much is not going to be included.

You think they'll lock map areas to paid DLC?

I'm in a similar boat, but I found Gaffers to be extremely accommodating to us lone wolf types over in Destiny GAF. People are always be willing to help me through group content or raids, even carrying me if I was under geared. That's not to say I don't wish that game had instant matchmaking for all content including raids and Nightfall strikes, but GAF works around it.

Considering the sparse new content in Destiny and similarities between these games, I imagine a ton of folks will give this a shot. Whether the Division has the hooks to get people in long term remains to be seen, but there should be a ton of us for at least the first month or two. I have a hunch this game will see big early waves on PS4 and XB1.

Pending early reviews, I'm definitely down to team up with you guys. FYI, the vast majority of Destiny GAF is on PS4, myself included.

Does anyone know if this has matchmaking for all content?

The shadows look pretty crappy, it's like Battlefront's but even lower quality. And the reflections on shops' doors and windows are exactly like Watch Dog's :|

But the game is apparently very fun to play.

Edit: oh man that hospital looks so cool. I love the environments!

Doesn't even look close to that game play video released a few days ago. How can this company get away with this bullshit of always showing games running on high end pcs and then releasing downgraded games that look much worst ...fake advertising UBI

Maybe because a good amount of people will be playing the game on high end PCs? It would be fake advertising if the video said something like "Xbox One In-Game Footage" but.....

Damn i'd completely forgotten that this is what they initially suggested as the zone to play. I wonder what the hell happened that made them transition so far inland.

Yep, that looks like destiny. Which isnt a bad thing, I like destiny, and I want another game of that style. Especially if they just have random matchmaking for every mode so Im not locked out of content

why not.....Destiny does it, every mmorpg out there does it. You will probably have to be a certain level to enter and in order to get to that level buy the DLC/expansions.

New map areas (as in, entire big areas, not small stuff) will be paid expansions that will probably come with MMO typical max level increases and such, I guarantee it

I assume thats what they'll do, but they seem to have a sweet thing going with Siege. I hope it continue.
