Pulled the trigger on a refurbished Dell U3415W. They were on the Dell Outlet site for $699 and I applied a 30% discount code and nailed one for $523 shipped.

Bought the 29UM67. Holy hell this is the real deal. It's only 29 inches but that's fine for now. I'm happy to report that you can indeed downsample. I play GTA V at a resolution of 3620x1527 on this 2560x1080p monitor which I'm happy about. I need to calibrate the picture though. I think it's too bright. I don't know how to calibrate!

They look quite good. But the consoles don't support 21:9 resolution and therefore, you will have black bars on the right, and the left side of the monitor.

There are lots of games that support 21:9 but the ui doesn't move or gets stretched a bit.
Gotta wait for the mods I guess.
People with the leaked copy already confirmed the UI was busted in 21:9. You can select the resolution, but it doesn't display right. Image is off screen too. Kind of absurd given the game's original resolution, but we'll have to hope that Flawless Widescreen/WSGF folks fix it.

For games that don't support 21:9. I just use 16:9 resolution. The contrast with the VA panel is so good that the borders on the right, and the left don't really bother me much. The screen size most certainly helps as well. The curve of the monitor is not distracting at all, and I prefer it to the non curve displays now.

(I have two now x.x)! It is most certainly worth the upgrade if you're coming from a 120, or 144hz monitor. The 21:9 makes the desktop experience so much better, and smoother. It's very enjoyable, and the VA panels helps with the contrast as well.The movie should be (IMDB shows it was filmed at 2.35:1), but the Blu-Ray itself is presumably rendered in 1080p 16:9 like all Blu-Rays. You'll need to use a cinema/zoom feature on your monitor, PC, or blu-ray player to make it fill the screen, otherwise you will get a windowboxed image.
I haven't actually seen Intersteller yet, so I'm assuming it doesn't have IMAX style shots like The Dark Knight does.
It's 2.35:1 so should be pretty much spot on.
Edit: Maybe not the best topic, but I want to throw a Blu-ray disk into either my Mac or Win10's Blu-ray drive and tinker with a couple movies on my 21:9 display. Anyone have a software suggestion for doing this on either OS?
Interstellar isn't 16:9 also. Weird aspect ratio. I lose picture to black lines on all 4 sides! Apparently, Blu Rays lock the aspect ration. You can stretch it but it doesn't look as good.

That sucks about no real 21:9 support on Blu ray movies. If you have a solution for 21:9 support that doesn't stretch and distort the image, please PM me or leave a reply here.
What sucks is that, pirated movies allow you to fit the image on the screen without making the picture distorted by the stretch.

You appear to have an LG monitor. Try this: Menu > Easy Control > Ratio > Cinema 1 or Cinema 2. If you have either option, see if it properly fills the screen for you.
It makes it just a little bit better but it's not properly fitted. There's still s horrible stretch. Doe this fix the issue for you?
I don't have a Blu-Ray player on my computer itself (yet...), but when using the PS3 or PS4 that provides a perfect fit using the Cinema 1 option.

It might be a resolution thing too. If you're running your PC at a 21:9 aspect ratio. The option might be intended for Blu-Ray players running at 1080p 16:9.
Here's what The Matrix looks like on my display using it:
My monitor is 2560x1080p. That image looks really good! What movie is that? Looks like The Day The Earth Stood Still (2008).
Anyway, using your method seems to be the best option right now.
It's the changing aspect ratios from the IMAX filmed scenes that messes this one up. The video file is locked at 16:9 and it uses a full frame image for the IMAX stuff, and then letterboxes the 2.35.1 stuff. It looks fine on a TV, but awful on a 21:9 monitor because you go from black bars on the sides to all around the image.
As a sidenote, the Oblivion Bluray will scale almost perfectly.
I wasn't so sure if Intersteller had those or not. In theory using the method I mention you'd see those scenes as they would have been in a regular theater. Still losing part of the picture tho.

I got the U3415W a couple weeks back and have been loving it. Picture quality is excellent across the board. My favorite feature that I discovered only after getting it is the picture in picture stuff. I've been keep Mario Maker via HDMI in my upper right corner while still having tons of desktop space to use.
Another U3415W owner here. Also have two pc's hooked up with one mouse and keyboard. Even have the Wii U hooked up for PIP play while I work. I thought about holding off for something with Gsync or Adaptive Sync compatibility, but I had a Dell Ultrasharp 2100FP that I used since 03' and just replaced it. It was a tank, it had incredible display quality and I can't say I feel any different about the U3415w.
I actually just unpacked a 27 inch Ultrasharp for my wife tonight as we are building her first pc this weekend.

Now on the Widescreen forums almost all games have some sort of problems since no game has a native 21:9 resolution. External programs have the possibility of adding lag which is absolutely a no-no for my multiplayer games (which is why I'm hesitant on G-Sync).

The vast majority of modern games do support 21:9 without any major modifications. However, for the games that don't, you can simply run them at the equivalent 16:9 resolution (I.E. if your monitor is 2560x1080, then you can run the game at 1920x1080) with no real issue. You'll get black bars on the side, but that's it.
Of the games you've listed there, I know World of Warcraft, Battlefield 4, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offense, and Diablo 3 all support 21:9 resolutions without any real tinkering.
I don't know about DOTA2 or Starcraft 2, but Hearthstone doesn't support it.
Put it this way: I have almost 200 Steam games, and I reckon that far more than half of them natively support it.

If a game works it is fantastic. But i sold my 21:9 monitor and bought a 1440p IPS Gsync one. The reason for this was that i was not able to play Heroes of the Storm without black bars. And it looks like overwatch wont be supporting 21:9 as well.
So check beforehand if the games you want to play will have 21:9 support.
Lag from G-sync? There is some overhead but it is imperceptible really. If you ever use Vsync, that alone adds far more input lag.
As for 21:9, a lot of games I've played work fine out of box or need minimal tweaking, like just changing a few config variables.
I dunno if Blizzard games play nice with 21:9 though, I believe they don't but maybe someone else here can chime in. You can always just run with black bars on the side for problematic games.
What games do you usually play? And for multiplayer games, how's the input lag? Lastly, which monitor did you get?

I didnt notice any lag on both monitors. In the end i bought an acer xb270hu and i am extremely happy with this decision. Although i miss the 21:9 feeling.
As for games its mostly multiplayer fps and blizzard games.
I bought a 34" 21:9 monitor so even if some games only run in 16:9, I'm still getting the equivalent of a 27" 1440p monitor (which would have been the size I'd have bought). So for me at least that seems a decent fallback?

Thats true. But i wanted 144hz. And afaik there is no 34" 21:9 monitor with a decent resolution and gsync with this refresh rate. I will never go back to 60hz.

You can get 34", 3440X1440, Gysnc and, 100hz all in one monitor. It's not 144hz, but it is also not 60. It checks pretty much every box, but if you can't live with a minor compromise you will just need to play the waiting game for a new model at some point in the future.
