Rise of the Tomb Raider coming to PC Steam on January 28

I don't mind playing at 60 fps one a single 970. That's pretty sweet. But I hope there's SLI support so I can downscale and improve IQ a bit.

Yeah my overclocked 3570K is going to start showing its age soon, if it hasn't already.

I think mine already has :/

Hardly any games stay with a stable frame rate for me and it's the only part of my system I can think is the issue.

My 980 is fine and i've 16GB RAM and my machine can't even handle Borderlands with Physx on high 60FPS and drops a hell of a lot for example.

Upgrading is gonna cost a new mobo, CPU and windows though ><

Welp, I was waiting for PS4 for moral objections to the exclusivity, but with my ROG Swift showing up tomorrow I'm probably going to have to test this out based on these screens.

Physx is fucked, your computer is fine.

Way better than the last model from both the original reboot and the enhanced edition. It looks somewhat inbetween those two. She doesn't look like she's lost the expressiveness of her eyes but there's better definition to the face.

Doesn't seem to have been many selling it in there lately.

If you want it for about $30 you can get it on various key selling sites. It's usually around $31-32.

Have you isolated the CPU as being the issue? Many games are simply poorly optimized regardless of specs.

Also, PhysX in BL is very demanding.

So I'm kinda worried/wondering.. Has it been confirmed yet that the game will support SLI? Because on the Geforce website, there's no indications of it under the games section.

Apparently this is sorted by R, so the game won't be clustered along with the rest of the Tomb Raider games in Steam. I blame SE for this, since they do this with all their Final Fantasy games as well, so the whole series is scattered across one's Steam library.

Make a Tomb Raider category/folder? Problem solved

I can't see it being anything else really, I thought my RIG would get me at least high with everything for a bit.

so it's normal? maybe I am just over estimating my PC

It was running on Nvidia supplied PCs. So I'm assuming top of the line hardware.

Still, I ended up stopping for a second just to admire a waterfall that was kicking up vapor and a small rainbow that formed overheard. First thought in my mind was "where's the screenshot button?"

If you have the hardware, the game seems to be able to take advantage of it from what I could tell during my admittedly limited play time.

Hopefully the game pushes the hardware. We can't have enough of those.

What is strange to me is that Nvidia have been completely silent about any Gameworks features while it's been confirmed HBAO+ makes the cut, maybe publisher restrictions.

With the many enhancements of the PC version Nvidia recommending a 970 makes plenty of sense.

You are not overestimating your hardware.
You are underestimating PC gaming's scalability.

So don't worry failing to run things at a completely arbitrary setting is totally normal, high has no fixed meaning in terms of tech. Medium settings of X may be technically more demanding than Y's high etc...

Anyways, if SLI scales in this game like it did in the first then 2x DSR should be doable :)

Yep, can't wait to see it running on my rig.

I fully played reboot with 3d-vision and it was amazing. I'll try enabling 3d with Rise too.

And if it doesn't work, well, it's going to be 4k xD

My 980tis are ready.

Isn't 3D Vision pretty much dead ? I don't see it being supported although it's cool tech.

NVIDIA are still constantly updating 3D vision profiles for new games and old if you check release notes for driver updates, so they still dedicate some man power to it.

I dunno what the quality of that support is, but there seems to still be some activity around it.

The 3D they're adding is compatability mode 3D, not true 3D tho. It basically does some weird thing with the depth buffer to shift a single rendered image 2 ways. It gives off a cut out book type of effect that only really works with inward screen depth.

Real 3D takes twice as much GPU processing (since it's rendering each scene twice), but looks significantly better, and supports pop in and out, while actually generating new information per eye.

The 3D vision community is constantly working on games and creating 3D profiles for them though, which is another great case of PC enthusiasts working towards fixing and improving games.

Not necessarily a new mobo, if you can track a 3770k down, that will give you 8 cores (4 virtual) I love mine for gaming.

For some reason the skin in this shot doesn't look too good, it doesn't seem to be letting much light through

Not all skin shaders work perfectly under all conditions sadly, but other shots show off that it is pretty decent. Also, she could oily/wet/whatever there technically. I have no idea.

Oh yeah, there are some shots where it looks fantastic :p just that one stuck out to me cus it's usually so good.

It looks really good for a game, but I just spent 3 hours going through a 300 slide presentation on skin/eye rendering so I can't help pick up on all the issues :p

New no-steam game short cut -> add game exe -> change the name -> hide original game

Ah, fair enough. It's not something I use so I don't know anything about it, just made the assumption based on '3D vision' mentions in the patch notes.
