Actually, I think this is pretty smart for a game like this. The hardcore community would much rather have the game release in order to get ready for tournaments or simply just get their hands on the game. Releasing the story stuff later gives them time to polish it without delaying the game for the hardcore, while also acting as a bit of a marketing bump as the hardcore crowd purchasing dies down.

Capcom actually put a lot of thought into how to sell a game like this in this day and age, and I'm actually pretty interested to see how it all works out.

Well, there's been talk of "premium" costumes lately. SolidSnakex you've got the gameplay caveat here, but the thing I quoted didn't make that distinction.

Unless things have changed it's only for gameplay content. They've said some costumes will also be earnable through zenny, but not all of them.

Well this is unexpected. I didn't think that I cared about a story mode, but that trailer was actually pretty hype.

I couldn't care less for the story mode of a fighting game but this late release makes pretty clear that the game was rushed to meet the February deadline and it worries me a little about the game modes that really matter.

EDIT: looks that the base game already has an story mode. So this is a extra. No problems then, phew.

I still think your concern is legitimate

Seems to me that they really, really want to get this out the door now so that the community can bang on it. Think back to how buggy the PS4 version of USFIV was at launch and how quickly it was fixed. Capcom wants this airtight before EVO.

from the article

"The official timeline, as of now, is Street Fighter > SF Alpha > SF2 > SFIV > SFV > SFIII; And no, the cinematic story mode will not feature Bengus’ art, as it’ll use in-game assets for all of its narrative moments."

You have a source? I could've sworn that Capcom is on record saying that you can either pay with Zenny or use Fight Money for every single thing in the game.

People who have an issue with the story mode delay. Would you rather the whole game was delayed? Because fuck that. The game is complete in February. Anything else is just a bonus
that I won't even play.

Are you fucking serious? We're STILL pre-SFIII?

They don't seem too impressed with Bengus's art themselves, if this is Capcom speaking.

~18 seconds in, is this balrog's new look?

Those look like military guys and he's not wearing gloves, looks like Guile or another new military dude to me.

Also, Kolin interacting with Nash @ 0:44. Laura riding in on an ATV looks Michiko as fuck.

Overall way better than I expected, hopefully they can phase out the Bengus artwork in the tutorial mode at some point.

Ehhhhh, this sort of thing really ought to be included at release for a fully priced game.

Imagine if they did this sort of thing for a game like Halo or Starcraft.

They did do this for starcraft. Except instead of waiting for 4 months you had to wait for 4 years. And instead of being free the expansions were 40 dollars each.

they definitely never said this. there will be specific money-only content. they've only said that gameplay related content will either be released completely free (this story mode expansion, balance updates), or be obtainable with in-game currency (characters)
