Serkan Toto Rumor: Bandai Namco making several NX games, including a Smash for launch

They're done making new content for the game. Period. Expect a straight port with all the DLC packaged in being its main selling point.

What about the Esports angle

Just cross posting since someone brought this up elsewhere

That could be incentive for a Persistent Smash game/platform

I mean what is the incentive to buy here? I mean there are the hard core fans, but they are supposed to be a 'vocal minority' and Smash 4 literally just came out so there is no nostalgia factor to it like games like Wind Waker so...????

there would have to be some new content but then they would have to back track on what they said in the last Direct, that it would be the LAST

Damn this Smash train will never end.

I want a combo of both the 3DS and Wii U versions in one game. And by that I mean all stages, trophies and game modes together, with all DLC included. That would be enough to get me to double dip.

Oh and a couple more fighters to sweeten the deal, a combination of both games won't be enough for most people. In which case I want to see
Inkling (with a Splatoon stage and music)
Ice Climbers' glorious return
A couple more veterans like Wolf and Pichu
and Snake
And maybe one more third party character to round the package out.

Give me all of that and I won't even need an NX version built specifically for the system.
Just keep adding DLC

But it's kinda hard to make Smash 5 without Sakurai unless they already had a new director lined up.

Do you have any source that said that Sakurai wouldn't work on next Smash Bros?

Honestly, please don't spread your opinion as if it's fact. We don't know ANYTHING yet and it's just a rumor that we might get Smash NX. We know how much hand-ons Sakurai is with Smash Bros which is his most beloved franchise that he loved to works on. So I know that we only have a rumor that Smash is coming to NX at launch date, which is no brainer. We have been discussing about that for awhile but it's still unknown if it's completely port or it's possible that we might get upgraded port version.

It would certainly be attractive to those who never played Smash 4 or bought a WiiU

I dont expect them to take the lazy route regardless. There will be a hook for dedicated fans for sure

I'm not sure about that. Recall that Smash Brothers 4 was actually released on two systems -- Wii U and 3DS. The "meat" of the game is largely the same on both versions, including the DLC. If the rumored game is a straight port with the DLC included, why not just purchase the 3DS version? Unlike the Wii U, Nintendo's recent handheld has done well. In fact, the 3DS system is already in the hands of ~50 million users. Why purchase a likely more expensive system and game when you can get largely the same product from the 3DS version? I think they would have to -- and will -- differentiate themselves. Not just for dedicated fans, but for everybody else, too.

A Smash Bros 4 port that is just a port would not only be "repetitive" vis-a-vis Smash Bros Wii U, but also vis-a-vis Smash Bros 3DS.

Do you have any source that said that Sakurai wouldn't work on next Smash Bros? That's if the rumor is correct.

Its not like hes taking on the same workload

He has to have plenty of great staff on the team by now AND this game was co developed by Namco and that relationship seems to be sticking

Maybe the game has changed

?????????? Ok someone else take this one please

Smash 3ds is a damn novelty

They said it would be the last DLC for smash 3DS/WiiU. They gave themselves wiggle room.

The only other game I personally would expect to get a port is Splatoon. It has a lot of activity online (especially in Japan), which would be a shame to lose if a lot of the player base stops playing on Wii U. Also, would make sense to take advantage of what can only be described as a Splatoon-craze in Japan as much as possible right now; a sequel is probably two years away.

There's also Zelda U, which everyone expects to be an NX game also.

And they might make a Splatoon 2 rather than a port.

I hope they managed to work something out with Nintendo and Monolith to get that Xenosaga HD collection made. I really want to try them.

I can't see how Nin is going to get people to buy the NX. Nin games like super smash bro. and super mario and mario kart etc didn't do shit for the WiiU, and they can't get a better third support than the one Sony and MS have. What can they to appeal to gamers now?

I wish. If I did everyone would get a copy of Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures.

I'm just being realistic here though.

And I'm being realistic.

Nintendo very, very rarely straight ports games. And when they do they're always specifically labeled as such ("Classic" "Retro" stuff like that) and are basically just emulations. I'm not talking about the virtual console, but rather, something like the NES Series on the GBA, which honestly were the only straight ports I could think of. And they were very late in the GBA's life.

But on the other hand, Nintendo's "enhanced" ports are plentiful. Super Mario Advance (a launch title for the GBA), for example, is an ehanced port of Super Mario Bros 2 from All Stars. With it came special coins to collect, voice acting, and a remake of Mario Bros, with multiplayer.

Twilight Princess, an enhanced port of a Game Cube game, launch title for the Wii, features motion controls and wide screen.

Link's Awakening DX, a launch window title for the Game Boy Color, features color and an all new dungeon.

Nintendo hardly ever does straight ports. Especially not to launch a new console. Why do that? It doesn't show off any new feature of the console or give any reason to buy it.

I don't understand the want to port all these games from the Wii U to the NX. It took a year to make Mewtwo, Roy, Lucas, Ryu, Corrin, Bayonetta and Cloud for Smash 4. 3 of those characters are based on previously made movesets and people want another 5-7 characters? There wouldn't be enough time for all that if the NX were to be launched in 2016, we don't even have Corrin or Bayonetta released yet. And unless the NX supports the gamepad games like Super Mario Maker, Nintendo Land, Pikmin and Splatoon would be severely compromised. People want Nintendo move away from the Wii branding and have a "hardcore" console but still want the games that made the Wii U worth owning/ made use of its features.

Oh oh, I know what I want the most out of smash for NX.

A fixed character select screen. No clone corner. No DLC corner. Everyone with their franchise.

That would be awesome. I always want to see Ryu and Cloud being with third party characters since it was weird to see them being sticked with Roy and Lucas but I'm not complaining tho.

SMBA came out years after SMB 2. Same goes for Link's Awakening. Those are pretty bad comparisons.

Port begging.

It beings NOW.

A++ for effort buddy.

It just feels too soon to me. I can't justify buying a port for a game that's two years old. Not even sure I can justify buying another new nintendo system so soon.

There were like 12 months between Last of Us and Last of US HD. It isn't that unusual anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if it really was a port of Smash 4 with DLC included to entice people into the NX. I can imagine certain Wii U games getting the same treatment like Super Mario Maker since the community would eventually disappear years after.

Only true if you think NX is a "home console" in any traditional sense, which the jury is still very much out on.

I think most are still heavily under the assumption it will get some sort of home console equivalent at some point, if not right off the bat, but you're right. This could very well be 'better smash bros for handheld' - but even then, I'm not sure (at least in the west) many people would be willing to double dip (AGAIN) on this game for a handheld version. I could be wrong. I know smash for 3DS sold way better than Wii U, because of the install base, but could it pull in decent numbers again, as a launch title, for a handheld?

I beliebe his to be a big possibility.
I would definitely double dip if this is true.
I don't even expect any extra content.
I would be satisfied with a straight port. The game already runs at 1080p at a constant 60fps, so all they'd have to do graphically is put some anti aliasing on there and you're done.

I'm excited for this year. I really can't wait for the NX.

well they are going to make a lot of money if they are going to add missing veterans and newcomers to Smash NX because we know that they are going to make more AMIIBO for Smash fans to buy.

it's essentially cash cows.

On completely different topic:

I really wonder what kind of project would he working on?

So does this mean NX is comparable with GC controllers?

On a mission now to find out.
Will report back never.

Another Kid Icarus game for consoles

That's generally a western practise, few Japanese games take that route and I don't think we'll ever see Nintendo do this on a mass scale. They tend to rerelease their games only when a new whole new audience is ready for it as we've seen with the GBA's SNES ports and the recent Zelda remasters. What every other publisher is doing doesn't reflect Nintendo.

What confused you about my message? And what's this "someone else take this one please" about? This isn't a customer service exchange. I don't know if this is what you're implying, but there is nothing certain about any particular point of view in this discussion, including yours (unless you are actually in the know). That doesn't mean all points are equally valid, but it does mean that determining the validity or correctness of points is inherently an uncertain process.

To reiterate, I think the argument that a straight port would still be attractive for those that "missed out on the Wii U' is questionable given that Smash 3DS exists. So I think less people actually "missed out" on Smash 4 than believed and those that did miss out have the option to pay for the handheld version which is already in the hands of many more people, is cheaper, and if the NX version is a straight port, provides largely the same content. Thus, I think the game (if it is actually in development) will feature more than the DLC content to appeal to those that played some version of Smash 4 (~10 million units, I believe). Perhaps that is clearer.

If you think otherwise, that's fine. Just say so or don't respond at all. If you are confused about what I said or have something to legitimately challenge me or on, I'd be glad to hear it.

Still there's a first time for everything. Plans change.

Handheld NX with brawl port! (some updated gfx)

Sure they will not promote it for the console because gfx wise it will not be that good.
Bur for handheld it will be a different story...

If this port allows all stages to be functional in 5-6 player mode then I'm in.

Nearly every stage is 99% functional (just missing spawn locations) at 60fps in 8 player Smash, via hacking. They were just really conservative with it, likely because certain aspects, like Pokeballs or Assist Trophies would cause tiny dips (although this hasn't been tested yet).

With the added power of the NX (hopefully), there shouldn't be any problems.

Said all along that MK, Smash and Splatoon at launch would be ideal and a good way to court the online/competitive multiplayer generation, even if some or all of them are Wii U remasters/ports. I hope this is one small leak from that. If nothing else Splatoon deserves better than a dead console.

I don't understand the want to port all these games from the Wii U to the NX. To be fair, there's 2 months between Cloud and Corrin/Bayonetta, which took place after half a year's break - and Roy/Lucas/Ryu were released 2 months after Mewtwo.

If this is out in, say, November, that's a bit over 9 months. That'd be plenty of time to chuck in a couple extra characters theoretically.

I'd say no more than 3 though, anything after is pushing it. I'm putting my money on Ice Climbers and Wolf (their last chance to get in and the former are a no brainer since their only barrier would be a non-issue, and at least some development is already done since they were working on Wii U) and maybe a newcomer. Possibly Alph could be separated, I wonder? That's just wishful thinking though.

I do like the observed loophole that the last Direct was the end of DLC for SSB for Wii U and 3DS... nothing about a potential NX version. :V

Pretty easy way to get Smash Bros Wii U/3DS owners to double dip would be adding Inklings. Very popular, highly requested, and exclusive to the NX version! Maybe they could even put Ice Climbers back in as a treat. Personally I'd prefer Wolf coming back, though.

I would buy a port of Smash4 Complete with all dlc included for the NX portable. I haven't spent much time with the WiiU version of Smash4 so it would be almost like a new game.

I cant comment on the Smash 3DS influence because I didnt buy, dont know the community reception to it or its relative popularity outside of sales numbers

Thats why I asked if someone else could chime in. I personally dont take the 3DS version seriously despite respecting that its a great portable rendition

When it comes to smash control is king for me and the Demo on 3DS actually convinced me NOT to buy it

Didn't he pretty much say that he was leaving Smash for a while, but was uncertain if the devs can go on without him? Plus, as stated before, he's already decided on his next project.

Source on bold statement? I remembered it just little but I would appreciate if we could get a source on that so we would know what kind of context it was given.

Also Yeah, he already decided on his next project. There are few possibilities about his comments.

1. His next project is Smash NX
2. He's working on Smash NX right now, and planning for his next project after he's done with Smash NX
3. no one know for certain

My expectation is Smash NX is more likely to be 100% Wii U Port without any changes. But I have a weird feeling that Sakurai is very hand-ons on Smash Bros projects because he really love the franchise so I'm not convenient enough that he would let other director to take over the Smash franchise YET. Someday, he will but right now, I'm not convinced yet because of fire emblem article.
