Street Fighter V Beta IV Thread: Jan 30-31

when people say they are going to play all these characters seriously then list half the roster lol, do you mean on the side casual? for myself ive never really played more then 3 characters per game where i felt i could use them competitively

so which characters do you see trying out seriously once sf5 drops? i really want to seriously try birdie, zangief and fang. might keep using ryu just in case i need him for some bad matches.

I really really love Nash. Took me a while to get used to him but I think I actually may enjoy playing him better than Guile now. But we'll see how Guile turns out. I see Nash being my main until Guile's out.

Other that I really want to put more time into

Rashid
Geif
Laura
and I really want to try FANG. I don't like his design but I'm liking what I see of his playstyle.

The CPU is pretty godlike. Can hitconfirm after 1 hit into super/v-trigger, Chun does the air legs on low level even. It might be an even worse CPU than 4 had.

Better than me yesterday, I couldn't find a game waiting for 40mins. It was fine when the beta started.

Strange, I can't go 30 seconds without getting challenged over 95% if the time.

I've been pretty much playing people non-stop this weekened, it's been glorious tbh.
I really need a stick. I lose a lot due to my fumbling around with the ps4 pad.

I want to buy a ps4 hitbox, but the whole firmware update thing frightens me.
It's super easy, but I'm also concerned Sony is just going to keep fucking with stuff so it requires updates all the time.

The whole point of the CFN is to allow users of different environments, i.e PC and PS4 users, to be able to lobby, find each other and connect with each other without issues. Also to be able to roll out patches and content for both platforms simultaneously without having to worry about certification on the side of Sony.

They could've made it possible to have a fighter ID linked between a PC account and a PS4 account but well, gotta get that money.
It's also possible this is a decision by Sony, not by Capcom but we don't know.

Well, that sucks for anyone who thought they could buy for both platforms & carry progress between the two. Seems like a huge oversight to me.

I cant really explain, but there's SO much space for punishment. I believe its because in SF4 you had more room for playing aggressive. SF5 feels like you have to pay better attention to your oponnent.

I think that's it lol.

i know what you mean, SF5 you need to play you're opponent as much as the character you pick... where SF4 you would have people hyper focus on training room max damage combos and not make on the fly adjustments

Karin
Laura
and I think Ken (need a shoto in my life :D )

It feels good to use V Trigger as a easy way to anti-air to end rounds. When I have them close enough to death I will just sit there waiting for a jump. When they do, pop the V Trigger and mash DP for a easy 160 damage(with Ryu). I have a feeling this will be heavily used in the future for people playing DP characters when they're sitting on a lead.

Man that was heartbreaking, a basic af sim kept my new Necalli completely away lol. No idea what I could do to get in.

SMH at people who reach 2k and start playing on Casual matches, I should have deactivated it. Beaten 2 guys at 2K LP only to realize it was a casual match.

This has been my experience as well, but for me it sucks, because I can't get any alone time to practice and I then get thrust into matches where the opposition knows every combo, read, and punish. I've had some good matches though and found the most success with Rashid and Karin. R. Mika is fun to play as well.

Noticed you can follow up rashids v trigger with air eagle spikes if you dont want to spend meter on the grounded ex version. It's something if you want more than just a spinning mixer. Woo.

Got my 1016 LP and I am done!

EVO, here I come! Nah but seriously, these next two weeks is going to be hard.

My most memorable match was a Dhalsim who was a high rank and KILLED me the first round while I was playing keep away. I think I got one or two hits on him (Nash). The second round I decided to rush him and he was way too slow to keep up. The third round I almost got him but inexperience kicked in and I hesitated too long and let him get out of dizzy. I was trying to go for a fancy combo but couldn't figure out which one to do, if I had meter for an ultra and I should have just slammed him. He got out and ultra'd me and turned the game around for himself.

All lessons learned for when the real thing comes out. Also, Nash Sonic Scythe (I think that's what it's called. The one where he does forward overhead kicks), while I hear it's risky to use, is a life saver in a clinch.

For sure, as Cammy I'll see start up of a fire ball or jump in and V-Trigger to close out the round.

Birdie and after much deliberation I'm leaning heavily toward...

...Chun. I really enjoy the way she plays defensively -- quietly chipping away at your opponent's life bar until they begin to panic and then ramping up the pressure in an instant is extremely satisfying. I've also been out of the charge character game after playing them near exclusively through II and Alpha so it feels good to revisit and diversify.

And, well, good Chuns have kicked my ass like no other during sporadic beta play so if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Having the best alt costumes doesn't hurt either.

Start recording actions and play as the dummy, you can practice as much as you want (it won't let anyone challenge you as long as you're recording).

Mika's really fun. I keep catching people in tickthrow setups.

My favorite midscreen setup is st.MP, f.MP xx MP backdash forward dash into cr.HP slight delay into command throw

For corners I do st.MP, f.MP xx MP then f.HP, cr.MP into command throw. After a knockdown I do crossup j.LK, st.LK into throw.

i always thought the lag switch was a myth.... i get this ken stunned next thing you know im lagged and cut to 3 seconds later and im flying in the air from a ex-shoryuken

Finished at around 1300 LP before leaving off.

I was kind of annoyed with my last hour or so of matches. I got creamed by smart people playing keep away with Nash, Sim, Laura, etc in the first hour of playing. So in my last hour I was hoping to run into smart people who played those characters to learn but lo and behold the only people I got matched with were people who recklessly went in and played the matchup all wrong.

Why run in with Sim and not even do teleport shenanigans? At least I can learn from those. Ah well.

Can't beat Nash to save my fucking life. They're all crazy.

I never had trouble with them as Bison, even in past betas, until I got above 1000 LP yesterday. Now everything I do seems like it's getting shut down and it's a struggle not to get perfected.

I'm having some issues against Karin and Laura because all their moves look the fucking same and I don't know when I'm supposed to block low/high, counter whatever. But I generally feel like I still stand a chance against them. Karin in particular I've been playing against the CPU and I understand some of her stuff, just not her v-trigger mode. I'm sure I'll get tons of practice against her because my friend is maining her and we've both vowed that this will be the year of training.

Yah I've been playing some keepaway Nashs more lately, shit is mad boring.

Yeah I can tell even if someone is way higher rank than me, they all respect me because of Nash (and once they see that I can do a combo). I can just hear them cursing the gods on the other end when they see him and then exhaling all of the air from their lungs if they beat me.

I never played a charge character in 4 because I couldn't wrap my mind around using normals and linking a charge motion.

I've had so much fun playing Bison this weekend and might even try to main him. I guess his v-skill absorbs projectiles which builds up v-trigger? I'll have to watch a video on it.

Now that I'm on the Bipson train I wonder if I should drop the new TE2+ stick for that Shadaloo stick.

is there going to be a way to change you're in game name once the game is live? i know you can pick a new one each beta and im sure it will be the same for live but are you set it stone after that one you pick it? ....

Sometimes people aren't rage quitting. On Friday night the matchmaking system disconnected me at the end of a match once, so it's possible that this has been happening as well.

His V-Skill counters anything but lows and grabs, but it has a weird hitbox vs. aerials, and I don't recommend using it for that purpose.

One thing I have noticed with V is how defensive this game is. Nearly every single fight my opponent constantly jumps backwards, eventually putting themselves in the corner. But wait! what happens when I catch em? somehow they wriggle out and jump away to the other corner continuously to repeat the cycle lol

In IV I feel it was much more balls-out rush in get a high dmg combo and trick em with focus to continue assaults. Can't get past 1K LP atm

I don't miss IV at all, just need to re-adjust.

Yeah the disclaimer says you can't change it.

Got my first rage quit from a rank 900 Karin. Didn't think I'd see this behavior at these ranks.

I mean, I'd be high rank too if I disconnected instead of eating -70 LP for every loss.

I'd imagine they have taken this into account in the real game's ranking system. LP is very random and obviously placeholder.

All of Laura's anti-airs are just so bad. Well at least she has options even if most suck.

Yeah, it's not always RQers when you get a DC.

Guys don't do it to yourself, don't focus on the points. Getting to 2k and then I'm done, getting to 3k and then I'm done. It will NEVER be enough. At this point, just focus on getting good with 1-2 character, particularly ones that are different and get familiar with the entire cast. You should have a fundamental game plan against all match ups.

I hope there's a way to not look at your points or something. I mean, right now is a rare moment people. We can still go toe-to-toe with people like gootecks and infiltration. I mean in a few months they are going to ascend to an even higher pro level but while the game is still largely about fundamentals, we can actually eek out some rounds against top players. Legimagely be in the top 50 or 100. Just embrace the losses and wins equally, the payoff will come.

Haha.

Nash is totally my Demon. I respect him so much in-game, maybe I need to complete spaz out and hit buttons lol I dunno man I need w's against him
