It's that time of the year again.

3DS has no games in 2016 though

Just because it has a name of a IP, it doesn't mean it will sell to all its fans. It's not a "normal" DQ game. Other spin-offs are much more inline with the original.
And Minecraft LTD sales are so high thanks to its legs as well, not because of first week performance.

I don't think anyone here is saying they're much higher than anyone expected, but you couldn't expect much more than that imo for a game like this.

Well, DQ rarely failed when it came to spin-offs. When there were some above-the-average production values, and the game wasn't targeted towards a niche (i.e. Theatrhythm Dragon Quest), the project was successful; even DQ Swords sold 500k units.

The fuck is with that price tag for DQ builders, that's ridiculous. I thought IF this game comes to Europe it would be £10 at the maximum. Unless it's a case of SE having their fans bend over big time in Japan and they adjust price accordingly in EU since most care not for DQ here.

Don't know why I'm thinking about this game, after how heroes did I doubt this game even leaves Japan.

Probably shouldn't make judgements based on first month npd sales. We havent heard from square regarding its expectations and performance considering it is a spin off musou game. It is very likely this game will come out everywhere especially with how ps4 is doing worldwide.

As I predicted, DQB is banking; I don't really understand why people were donwplaying the game sales so much: one of the most popular video game franchise in Japan + one of the most popular genre in nowadays market + Sony ecosystem. What's most surprising is perhaps the split, since PS4 version sold more than what I expected in terms of PSV/PS4 ratio.

It didn't matter because SQEX was primarily targeting DQ fans in Japan (see the price point) and also MC is really popular, so among those 1.5m people (if not more) who bought and played the game, there is surely a fraction that is willing to pay a premium price for a DQ-theme MC clone.

To copy some of our friends here, that number for Theatrhytm is really disappointing and its no wonder SQEX did not continue the series: popular franchise, on the leading platform, chibi artstyle designed to appeal to 3ds predominant demographic, previous entry that workrd with less popular franchise selling around 100k. Disappointing indeed.

FF music are much more recognizeable and popular (you can see album sales). Also, let's wait to see whether the franchise has died or not, since there might still be a Theatrhythm KH in the pipeline.

Low preorders don't signal anything substantial (plenty of games have low preorders and then sell incredibly well); lack of multiplayer is a non-issue if the primary target is DQ fanbase; being the first MC clone should help and not harm...?

Splatoon isn't really faltering. It's just that multiple new games are doing well enough to push it out.

Considering the hold, it could return if the other games suddenly drop. We'll see.

I didn't like the demo at all, but lots of people I know seem to be having lots of fun with it. Maybe it really works better for audiences not super familiar with the genre? I've played a shitload of Terraria so the handholding and tutorial stuff got really annoying for me.

I don't think DQ is known for its songs except for the opening/new game screen hence the low debut?

Though what if Theatrhythm DQ debuted on PSVita? How would that fare?

Thing is it seems weird what with their multiple platform approach for DQXI that they're only on 3DS/PS4 for now, especially if it's a 2017 game. Wouldn't it make sense for it to be 3DS/Vita/NX Portable and PS4/NX Console by that point?

FF music are much more recognizeable and popular (you can see album sales). Also, let's wait to see whether the franchise has died or not, since there might still be a Theatrhythm KH in the pipeline.



Low preorders don't signal anything substantial (plenty of games have low preorders and then sell incredibly well); lack of multiplayer is a non-issue if the primary target is DQ fanbase; being the first MC clone should help and not harm...?

Considering how much effort was put into the DLC...
What i was trying to say by that was that you can do your kind of analysis to justify any agenda that one might have. I mean even FF Theatrhythm could be said to be a failure when you think of it as a rhythm game spinoff of one of the most popular franchises where fans are mad about the music, as per album sales. The game was on a the most popular platform at the time and catered to the demographics by its art style. Looking at the results which didnt even crack 200k and they had to release a phone version of the game,Square should move the franchise to Sony platforms where FF sells the most and rhythm games such as Miku do great numbers.
Just to clarify I'm not actually suggesting that, just showing how perception can be skewed, something that happens a lot in these threads to argue that all games and publishers should jump ship to my favourite platform.

Regarding DQB, if the game was targetd at DQ crowd then we really ought to have been vary as DQ games tend be front loaded as indicated usually by preorders.

Yea I enjoyed it a great deal. I didn't even mind the handholding, was nice to try something a bit different to what Minecraft and Terraria does (In regards to the houses and npcs, or at least did, back when I played them)

Also it's very pleasing to look at, gives it a great first impression.

That handholding part was change Horii applied to the product so I'm sure that is intentional. DQB is like, well, Minecraft for people who couldn't like Minecraft lol.

I'd have to boot it up again to remember placing vertically, but horizontally at least went incredibly smooth once I figured out how to operate the R/L buttons properly.

I doubt they'll make that happen. Hopefully for Nintendo they can at least have a better launch for NX than they did for 3DS. Assuming it is a handheld being released first...
