Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

So did we ever get confirmation one way or another that there's going to be stage expansions/easter eggs like there is for the China stage (and only the China stage so far)?

Yeah... And what about how Ryu has different animations for when some of his moves hit, whiff, or get blocked? Like his cr.HP and sweep. Does anyone else have things like that? Seems like a lot of the cool niceties they came up with early on have sort of fallen off the table.

I've said it before but I could have sworn I read an article with some kind of interview with a capcom rep and they said that features of other stages were being kept a surprise for release but I can't find it.

He's probably going to look like this, since this design differs from 3s and that's probably for a reason:

It's the Pop Culture Shock figure from a time we now know SFV was already in a planning phase.

Yea I brought that up before. I'm just assuming it was because of time constraints. Sucks that Ryu's cr.HK is like -50
I have no idea what it actually is on block
and is made super obvious while most of the characters don't have that clear animation.

Nash has it on his st.HP, that's about all I remember

Holy shit people. Look at this video.

https://youtu.be/QMx2l8EtvdI

It is fucking NUTS how much this game has been improved since it was first announced. No wonder I wasn't really hot on the way it looked initially. Hot damn.

Noodle hat is just the best bug.

It's honestly pretty dumb of Capcom to not have implemented accessories for your fighters, like a low-key version of what VF and Tekken have. They'd get all the monies.

Aww. Hopefully, they could add that in for some of the other characters in patches, but they probably wouldn't waste their time with that.

I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped the stage expansion. It was one of those "okay, cool, but why" changes that just seemed to be there to make the game look more different to casual players who thought it looked exactly like SFIV. I'd like if there was the option to turn that off and use each part as it's own stage, but the edge parts are probably a bit smaller than the base stage length.

Other characters definitely have stuff like that. It's probably the most noticeable with Ryu though.

R.Mika's s.HP
Vega's s.HK
Zangief's s.HP
Nash's s.MP and s.HP
Birdie's cr.HP

Just the ones I can think of

before Alex I never played charge characters or grapplers, and while I certainly never got any good at 3S he was definitely a gateway into both of those playstyles. Absolutely by far my most anticipated DLC character and I'm very glad he is coming first. Hoping for a 360 motion HYPA BOMB super and stun gun headbutt v-trigger.

It's very, very likely he'll just have the same design as his Metro City cameo

These are in the game for numerous characters, but they're on really big, super punishable moves. Zangief's uhhh is it standing fierce? The big wind up punch? He has a different animation when you block it really close to him. Birdie's crouching fierce also has the same effect. I think one of Ken's target combos with the same effect, etc. In fact, they kind of serve as a tell. "Hey, you can totally punish the shit out of this."

i'm really excited for the Alex reveal, especially with how Cacpcom will do it based on past history

1) 2 minute video that shows maybe half the skillset
2) Blog post that only details v-skill, reversal and super
3) Nothing happens for a month and they won't give us a movelist
4) Random video of two 8 year olds playing Alex at some tournament in France
5) Find their British accountant, put together an awful clip of the character, have British accountant read the script and tell us some useless strategy. Video will be 2 minutes long and only 45 seconds of actual content.

Any other PCS statues like this that haven't been announced?

There is SFV development completion event tomorrow in Japan which will be livestreamed. I assume they might announce it there?

Correct. Pretty sure it's at Red Bull Tokyo. Topanga is doing 2 tournaments before the launch event. The first is an USF4 3v3 Japanese University battle, where students repping a school go up against another school. After that is a SF2 16 man tournament featuring the Topanga players as well as SF2 legends like Yaya Sagat, Komoda Blanka, and Nakano.

That's on twitch.tv/topangatv

Right after is the SFV event.

So if the stream starts at 2am here in the UK (which j think is correct) what time will the SFV stuff be?

I remember that article, too. What they said was vague though, I think they used the term "easter eggs" so that doesn't necessarily guarantee each stage will have an accessible section. Of course, it seems to be pretty clear that was on the table at one point in development, though.

I hope the other stages have at least one thing. It would be weird if the China stage is the only stage with stuff like that.

You can even see another room in the Waterfall stage. They use it for official artwork and it's even in the cinematic story mode trailer. So clearly they still use that room for other things.

Can someone please explain to me the hype behind Alex? Is there something mechanically about him that makes him superior to other grapplers? Honest question :)

I would think it stems from him being a Third Strike character that wasn't featured in any of the SFIV games. He has not been in a fighting game for a while either: I think his last playable appearance was in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

He was the "main character" of Street Fighter III which makes it a little odd his only fighting game appearance since then was Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. I think people just considered him a shoe-in for SF4 or SFxT because of that (plus not being a weirdo).

I can't completely speak from a gameplay perspective since I never played SF3, but personally, I've always been a fan of his overall design. The awesome wrestling moves, hulk hogan references, and visual design have always appealed to me. He's one of the best SF designs, in my opinion. Usually, I'm not a fan of the big, bulky grappler types in fighting games, but Alex is the sole exception to this. And now that he's returning, he will be the first grappler I play in a fighting game, so I'm excited about that as well.

Also, popular characters that haven't appeared in a while always bring hype. It's just nice to see a character you like finally return.

Me too. Would be incredibly disappointing if they took this out after putting such a big focus on the stage interactables in the Hong Kong stage during one of the first times we saw footage of the game.

Both the fans and reviewers should bring this up to Capcom in order for them not to simply get away with this omission. The same goes for not including all the stages that are seen in the character art (apart from stage DLC which I'm hoping they'll do, though us asking them about this will increase the chances for that as well I suppose).

He was pretty fun to play in third strike and the.

Thanks for the replies guys, don't really gravitate towards grapplers but may give him a shot.

That trailer with the Alex boots in it got me hyped through the roof with the first theme in it. Reminds me of the Dreamcast days of game music like Crazy Taxi and such.

He's a mobile grappler, like Abel or Makoto. He's actually got a similar archetype to Honda (has both a horizontal and vertical special move, good pokes, grappling options are important but not everything), but has a bit more maneuverability. He's exactly what I like in a fighter character.

Don't Mika, Laura and maybe even Birdie all fall into this category, too?

If his movelist from SF3 was anything to go by, he has 2 charge moves. Which would make him the closest thing to E.Honda.

Though they might change things up for SFV as they've done with Vega.

holy shit this made me crack up at work

I'm thinking about something...

That spanish magazine said that we will see one character/month until september, right?

Well, Capcom said that we will see 6 characters this year. But if they launch every char until september, we will have at least 4 months to build it up fight money to buy the next characters in 2017.

So, it is possible that

a) that magazine got it wrong;
b) capcom will release more than 6 characters this year.

For a business perspective, it makes sense to release one character per month, so the players won't have time to earn enough FIght Money and get the characters from free. I mean it, MOBAs have new characters each 3-4 weeks.

Ok, I guess that MOBAs characters are easier to develop, but I think this time frame is more about marketing thant development time.

So, are we gonna see more characters this year? ;-)
