I have a feeling GAF is going to be a Fanboy filled Battlefield today. Probably best for my sanity if I avoid it for the rest of the day.
Its an absolute wreck right now. Time to go OT...

I enjoy sitting in front of my TV
I get 2/4 free games per month via Gold
I don't really want to drop £600+ for a competent gaming PC
Those are just a few. That being said LIVE functionality is on the PC too, the biggest thing it loses is the subscription.
How when multiplatform games (many of which are on PC) are the top selling games on both the PS4 and Xbox One?
Exclusives really aren't doing much this gen. This past Holiday season showed that pretty clearly.
No positive for a console only gamer?
What about the fact that this push will help new IPs (that are good) to have a greater chance at success and thus become franchises with multiple sequels?
I loved Sunset Overdrive. If a PC version of the game would have caused a Sunset Overdrive 2 then how is that a bad thing? Most who care about consoles only will continue on caring about consoles only.
This move is setting the base for MS to merge Xbox and PC/Windows 10. This will cause the Xbox brand as a whole to better compete with the larg(er) worldwide userbase of PlayStation.
MS makes a great pro consumer move and it's all doom and gloom for Xbox apparently.
There will be abother Xbox this gen. The PS4's massive success is dulling everyone's critical thinking skills... just because PS4 is kicking but does not mean XB1 isn't selling "decently".
I was pointing to the narrative created by this proposed practice. I'm not trying to prove anything.Counting posts on GAF to prove or disprove anything is a waste of time. Its irrelevant.
Yes, when I think of a console base being treated First Class, the first item that comes to mind is "I hope their exclusive games get ported to PC to hedge against poor sales".
Is Microsoft throwing in the towel with the Xbox One?
I'd say this hurts people who exclusively own the X1. Less people will buy an X1, so it'll get less software support, period. It's not as if software sold on other platforms justifies developing for a platform your sales were not on. It's not a plus for these people and you'd be delusional to say so.
Otherwise it helps the devs, probably, depending on MS's personal support. Also helps PC gamers, and potentially everyone by not locking to a single system of DRM.
Will the PC games have cheevos?

If more people are exposed to MS's solid upcoming library of games, then that's a great thing in my book.
Yeah, MS is giving up. Maybe this also means that they are leaving the console space.
I'm not contesting that the games themselves would sell better if put on a platform that people are less antagonistic towards, nor that Microsoft themselves would do better business. I am, however, saying that for the Xbox as a hardware platform, and for its fans and the narrative that surrounds it, having it perpetually be the *worst* place for Xbox fans to play *the games they are fans of* is neither good for the image of the platform, nor something I expect those fans to just brush off and be cool with.
But you're echoing business decisions that make total sense. I don't think what you're saying is in any way unfeasible or wrong. It's the first move in phasing out Xbox as a flagship gaming platform though, and that's not a fun thing for fans at all. How very hollow all the commercials will sound when you're truly and utterly better off playing on PC than on the main competitor to the other consoles that the commercial is marketing.
That's a rather broad statement, isn't it?It is still a console exclusive and you will get to enjoy it all the same. Who cares if it is on PC as well? Only misguided fanboys who want to feel special do.

I think this gives us a hint at what the next xbox will be like.
One ecosystem.
Buy once.
Play anywhere.
Great news.
Pretty much confirmed that the next consoles wont be the traditional one.

What if you're a platform-agnostic gamer who enjoys Microsoft's catalog and therefore buys the system? That's how Sony does it. That's how Nintendo does it. But for Xbox One owners who made the decision to buy the system (instead of -- perhaps -- a new or upgraded PC) now has a console that collects dust. EDIT: I shouldn't say "collects dust". They now have a console that has less utility and is less attractive, that's all.
Plenty of PC gamers "stoop" to the level of console gaming (and handheld gaming) simply for the exclusive games. They know the graphics are worse. They know the game won't have the flexibility of a PC game. Yet, they do it because they're gamers and there's no other platform to play the game.
It sucks for those who bought an Xbox One with the hopes that it would be given care and attention by Microsoft. With all these ports coming down the line, the reason to buy the system diminishes.
From a business standpoint, people who keep parroting "who cares if they buy in on W10? It's still a game sale" are forgetting the very lucrative Xbox Live subscriptions that are charged on console but not on PC.
Crazy news today. I own an Xbox but it's mainly a console for my little one. Maybe it's time to build a gaming rig for the adult Xbox games.
I think it's a win win for everyone.
No, but it seems to jive with their new emphasis on user engagement, rather than hardware sales, as a key metric. They just want you in the MS ecosystem, whether on Xbox, PC, mobile devices, etc.

Because halo. Why buy a xbox and pay for xbox live gold if a can buy a PC and get better graphics, free online and cheaper games?
I'm not sure I understand the question. What makes PS+ different from XBL in this instance

Console warriors going mad right now, yeaaaaahhhh I'm out
Yup, one less title to bring up as an exclusive in list wars. That's all I can think about when somebody tries to depict how it's a bad thing.
I see it as bad because I bought an Xbox because it had the most interesting exclusives for me. Now they're all on PC which I already had.
Is Microsoft throwing in the towel with the Xbox One?
I've been saying this for a while but I think the next Xbox will be closer to what Steam box is than a traditional console. It will be a PC with a controller interface and cross buy/cross platform. More of a budget PC gaming system. Buy a game on the Windows store? Own it on your Xbox. Because everything would be linked.
I just don't see it being any other way.
Ok but while you can just play it right away, I need to buy some new components to get it run properly.
Some users really forget that we are on a gaming forum, and not in the real world. The common consumer is not going to drop a console for a gaming PC.

That is a great attitude to have and I agree. I also buy games on PS4 and on Vita for reasons of convenience or preference even though I have a perfectly good PC hooked to my TV with controller and wireles m/kb. So, I agree with being satisfied with the console you own.On the other side of that coin people like me prefer consoles and do not have a rig that can run these games. They are still console exclusive just as they were.
But if you have a decent rig that will run them, then more power to you, I guess. I just don't see it as a loss because the games that I bought my Xbox One for are still coming all the same and that is where I will play them. Nothing has changed.
Losing all these exclusives is making me sick to my stomach![]()
