Hm, true but it will rather decrease than increase for MS, if Sony doesn't fuck it up.
Why bother at all? R&D is very expensive, they should colaborate with Sony/Nintendo and compete on the service/software level.
The potential Xbox userbase will be split into casuals buying the console and hardcore gamers going for the definitive experience on PC. MS is in a rough spot when it comes to hardware. They have the software/OS and they want to push it further, but they don't have a device with global mass-appeal to do so. Their vision of a Windows10 based ecosystem will never work for most of us.

I wouldn't call them excuses. More like valid reasons for personal preference.

Back to the MS/Xbox ecosystem. If they do this right it could be huge for future Xbox generations. Think Apple but including high end PCs and Xbox's. Could it get to to the point where if you want your game on Windows it has to be compatible with the current Xbox console? XCOM on Xbox ;) Also - forever backwards compatability yay.

The rage would be delicious.

Or, to be precise, more people can play the game without XB1 and I'm one of those people. I already own PS4 and PC so it's really hard for me to justify buying an XB1. I hope most of their 1st party come to PC so I get to experience them.

The Xbox One is clearly selling less than the PS4 and developers are already starting to prefer the PS4 for some games. Developers MAY be more inclined to bring games faster to Microsoft systems if the audience is broadened by adding PC and Xbox One together.

Did he not have a good time with the games he's already played on the system? Fair enough if you bought it like yesterday but I have an Xbone and I feel I've gotten more than the amount I paid for it of enjoyment out of it. I'd still rather see every game come out on PC so I can play them with no limitations. But maybe that's just me.
 
Hmmm tough to call. It could bolster MS with good will and more sales, or it could be an exit strategy for xbox as a console. Games being exclusive to Microsoft's store will be sure to make a stink if they go the route of EA's Origin, keeping their games exclusive (off steam) and keeping prices high.

These games are still there, though. And why would I get less in the future if they are making more money?

Again, most who bought the system will still play on that system because they prefer consoles. As most who will buy one in the future will do so because they prefer consoles as well. Console players who wanted an Xbox are not just going to ditch the system for PC. Because that is not where they like to play. That is what you are not getting.
 
Really? Some of you guys are so naive that you think he actually leaked some top secret info, and not just a guy who gets paid to re-write press releases that made a goof?

you're giving news writers at gamespot too much credit for insider info. Microsoft has been pretty good at keeping their games and announcements under wraps (none of last year's E3 games leaked).

At the time it felt like Microsoft were supporting the 360 with gusto. JRPGs, benchmark titles, niche games. Lots of wonderful things the 360 had and the PS3 didn't. Now, with a few Kinects of hindsight, we know that they dump the hardware out there with a batch of titles before reverting to sitting on the core trinity of exclusive franchises and third party titles... which is great until your competition is known for doing both better.

The PS3 had a shit old time but Sony, to their credit, puts a shit load of effort into getting a hold of unique content for it. A lot didn't set the world on fire but at least you felt like your platform holder was willing to invest in it and it bode well for its future or any future machine.

Pretty sure this thread was created due to the Quantum Break rumour, not the gamespot article. A rumour which has been revealed to be true. The games are coming, embrace it.

I have the exact same mindset, I would have just preferred if they announced the PC version of those games earlier so that I would not have bought a XB1 2 months ago.

I only played Rise of the Tomb Raider and Sunset Overdrive on it for now.

I personally don't like playing FPSs on PC since I'd rather use a controller than a mouse and keyboard. I know I could use a controller while playing on PC, but then those using a mouse and keyboard have an advantage which in turn destroys the integrity of the FPS, at least for those playing with a controller.

Sorry pal, that's just the power of options. My current PC is 7 years old and I know that I will have to buy a new one for stuff like writing invoices etc in a year or so and MS did a great job by giving me a additional reason to do so. My problem with PC gaming was that there are not that many PC exclusives that interest me, but MS has changed this.

I will bet one testacle on Scalebound and Crackdown3 also coming to PC.

Semantics. This strategy does nothing to maintain or improve the momentum for the Xbox One. It only devalues the Xbox One. It's great news for PC gamers who now don't have to buy an X1. It's great news for PS4 or Wii U owners who can now use the money they would've spent on an X1 to invest into a PC to get those same games.

The only exception to this would be if Xbox One started to get "charity ports" or something of that nature, but I fail to see how porting games over to PC and potentially developing for X1/PC instead of just X1 will make games better and more numerous on Xbox One. You're placing a lot of faith in Microsoft to support their platform when the money ain't good when -- historically -- they have a very spotty track record in these exact situations.

Sure, you can assume that Microsoft is using this to bolster Xbox One's library and First Class and all that. Or you can assume that Microsoft is politely moving away from the Xbox platform while still providing some support to their fans. They've certainly done worse.

This is a good move really. The install base isn't large enough and they have no momentum right now. Spreading the risk like this PLUS putting these franchises back into the forefront of people's minds is a good way of positioning yourself for the next console cycle.

I'll say I'm not sure MS is going to go for another console though, but assuming they do, this move only means good things for them as well as gamers at this point.
 
Embarrassing how some react to what is good news all round. Expanding exclusives to PC means MS make more money and can therefore fund more games. Which means more games for Xbox owners and more choice for gamers all round.

There is literally no bad news here unless you are a bit crazy.

wouldn't be that difficult to require controller only for cross platform play
 
the cross buy feature is a smart play for MS as they give the incentives to buying the Xbox One version with the perk of getting the PC version too. Also the PC versions likely for these deals will all be Windows 10 only games.... so anyone still holding out on the PC side from upgrading to windows 10 is going to be forced to upgrade if they really want to play the game.

One last thought... I think with this new line of thinking from MS, maybe the thoughts on the Xbox One should be shifting away from a high end console, and more to MS's equivalent of a dedicated entry level gaming windows box. I mean isnt that really what the xbox is these days? And I don't mean that as a slam, I think its actually a good light/position for the xbox one to be considered.

Why wouldn't they? Do you think the average console gamer has any interest in buying or building a gaming PC?

It makes perfect sense for MS to continue making consoles, as well as seriously investing in the PC gaming scene.

They are in a tricky area and I do agree that focusing on their OS/Software would be the best option. Don't know if MS is willing to go that far but I know that's what the CEO wants to focus on
 
Well, i am going to buy an PS4 just for the new Uncharted and I assume some people would buy an Xbox One for Quantum Break...
So yeah, saying it's a good thing for Xbox owners to have a big exclusive going to PC is a weird statement. Is it better for Microsoft? Yes. Is it better for the game itself? Yes. But definitely not for the Xbox One.

Hell, there were a lot of exclusives on the Xbox 360 developed by them. Now look at the support for the Xbox One by japanese developers... Most of those games are going to be exclusive to playstation. I am not salty at all, as i will play the game on both Xbox One and my laptop ( I travel a lot ), so this is a good thing for me.
But i can't comprehend how people are saying that it will be good for the Xbox franchise to lose the exclusivity, even if it was only for the marketing aspect (look at the negativity coming from this news towards the Xbox One on all the gaming sites/forums).

Of course they're using it as that. This is a company trying to make money. They want to unify everything under Windows 10, and that's a good thing. MS needs to concentrate on a more streamlined experience.
 
Developers are soon going to be able to just take the code they made with Xbox game and do an easier port to PC. That makes it easy to port games over and more PC games. More games on MS ecosystem and their store (they can still make Steam games like RoTR but that requires more work). They have the option of making a game cross-buy/play if they want to. This just makes life easier for developers and for gamers. You know what, f it...

Are people forgetting that Microsoft owns the Windows store where these games are going to be released? The Xbox One is going to have less incentive for people to buy it because "everyone" can get it on PC? Are you guys taking crazy pills?

Why are you so stuck on the hardware? Xbox gamers are fans of Xbox game franchises and they follow those franchises across hardware. Now they get more options on where to play their games and use Live.

This is a very short sighted viewpoint. Giving developers more platforms for people to buy games on will only make it less risky to sink bigger budgets into game development. Making the PC a viable platform for a game alongside a console is only good for everyone involved. It's good for Xbox because if MS can now factor in the PC audience it might make them more likely to green light first party games that maybe they previously wouldn't have, meanwhile PC and Xbox console are not in any type of meaningful direct competition so there isn't really a huge risk of cannibalizing their sales. It makes a ton of sense. The only people who seek to be concerned with it are those that put way too much stock in what "exclusive" really means in terms of market/consumer perceptions.

Because it is crap IMO. I know I may be "dealing in absolutes" but I see no negative thing coming out of this other than to the people to which this console war thing or boasting matters. It is basically a non-factor that has been made into an important point for no reason other than to complain about a good thing.

Let me break it down as I see it. If you have an X1 then it only affects you because you may get a free PC copy of the game in some cases. If you don't and have a capable PC then you get it there, or you get the one that comes with both so that in the future you may get an X1 if you care? If you have neither then it really doesn't matter as you can choose one or the other and still get both.

I truly do not see any disadvantages for anyone here. If you do and I am missing some point them out because I truly can't. MS is not killing the X1 at all. MS is not taking anything away from X1 owners, but giving them more value as they can have both copies of game in some purchases. I can only see it affecting people in a stupid emotional way.

People with similar CPU + GPU specs to the ones listed in that thread number in the tens of millions.

Also, this isn't affecting Xbone owners in any way shape or form, except that with more revnue from these games, Microsoft can make more and better exlcusives in the future.

The only people upset are the list warriors.
 
I honestly think console gamers who say this is a bad thing is a minority, in that, it will have minimal impact. I don't think society will say, "Oh my, all Xbox games are on PC. I'm getting a PS4!".

The average console gamer doesn't give a shit. He doesn't own a gaming PC.
