I think they long ago said they were going for PG-13.

I don't think they could do reshoots this late. Unless they filmed stuff for a "unrated directors cut" or something, I think they're stuck with what they have at this point.

That's fine. You can get away with so much violence. It's not like there's a character that needs to swear on there.

Ah I finally found it

Is this a serious post? Zoolander is a known property for one and while I didn't care for the original movie a lot of other people seemed to love it. I'd say it has much greater potential to do well than Deadpool for a variety of reasons.

Someone break out the crow

Just when people think the superhero train is slowing down. It keeps on going!!

Last Year's calls for superhero fatigue were based on Age of Ultron underperforming, Ant-man being a movie about Ant-man, and the bombing of a Fantastic Four movie that everyone predicted would bomb from the release of the first set photos.

Since the release of The Avengers, Fantastic Four is the only superhero film that has failed to crack the $400M mark worldwide. Fantastic Four and the Wolverine are the only two under $500M WW.

Not even major animated films have that sort of track record any more. Superhero films aren't going anywhere. With Deadpool blowing up, this will almost certainly be the biggest year for superhero films domestically. Perhaps Worldwide as well.

and if X-Men: Apocalypse opens below this... does that mean FOX rethinks Bryan Singer? >.>
He's already said Apocalypse is his last X-Men film. I just hope that Deadpool's success will convince FOX to make an X-Men movie that actually embraces being an X-Men movie.

Everyone's a Reynolds fan now huh? Where were you guys for Buried, huh?!

I was there. But whatever this is good news. The more folks that recognize the gem that Reynolds is the better.

Been a fan of his for half my life. Literally. Van Wilder came out 14 years ago.

I'm surprised Batman Begins had such a low opening weekend. I know it's over 10 years ago and it was a different time for those films, but was there still a bad taste from Batman & Robin or something?

Batman & Robin played a huge part it it.
Thats part of the reason WB does stupid shit like the BatEmbargo, because they saw that 1 awful interpretation of the character screwed them over far beyond one financially disappointing film.

Van Wilder and waiting were shit-tier comedies.

His best performances before Definitely, Maybe were his Harold and Kumar cameo, blade trinity, and smokin aces(which also wasn't that good).

He finally got to be deadpool in that shit-tier superhero film X-men wolverine origins. But they fucked over the character like no other.

He did awesome in Buried, and that's when I became a fan of him...but then he got trapped in mediocre rom-coms and miscast as hal Jordan.

Things are finally looking up, though.

I don't see why they would. Deadpool is performing better than any recent superhero movie not starring Iron Man; there's no particular reason to conclude that this speaks to some flaw in the X-Men movies, anymore than Captain America (which would almost certainly be on track to gross lower than Deadpool if it didn't have Iron Man) or Thor.

He's already on the way out, isn't he? I could have sworn that he already said that this was going to be his last X-Men film.
He's said he's open to returning, but with 20,000 Leagues set to start shooting soon they'll either have to hold off on the next X-Men a bit or else bring in another director (probably with Singer as producer, etc.).

Deadpool's success is some good vindication, especially for Reynolds.

Zoolander 2 should've come out 10 years ago, 15 years for a comedy is way too late.

Everyone's a Reynolds fan now huh? Where were you guys for Buried, huh?!

Buried was good, but in terms of Reynolds I really liked the off beat black comedy The Voices from recently.

Honestly most of his other work has left me cold but he's always come across as personable in interview.

Is this a lock to beat Passion of the Christ for highest grossing R-rated film or is it going to be an uphill battle?

Hard to say whether it's a lock.

Also hard to wrap my head around a world where Deadpool is flirting with 400 mil domestic.

The 21st Century is a wondrous, disorienting place.

So happy for Reynolds and the creative team behind this project. I've been a huge fan since Van Wilder and the man is finally getting the recognition he deserves.

Hm, I expected Deadpool to be reasonably successful, but an opening weekend at #1 where it also brought in $135 million was not at all part of those expectations.

this is truly insane. I was rooting for this movie the whole time and i never even expected it to just explode like this. Congrats to everyone involved, Reynolds, the director, the writers, everyone else, the marketing team too, for being so passionate about this project and believing in this movie they wanted to make for like 6 or 7 years, finally getting it made and it turned out great, and then getting rewarded for it.

This should be updated with GOTG and Ant-man.

GOTG - 94.3 million
Ant-Man - $57,225,526

Haven't seen deadpool yet, but anyone who has: did Reynolds really nail the role?
Personally I think he's as perfect for Deadpool as much as Robert Downey Jr playing Iron Man or Patrick Stewart playing Proffesor X.

Hard to say whether it's a lock.

Also hard to wrap my head around a world where Deadpool is flirting with 400 mil domestic.

The 21st Century is a wondrous, disorienting place.

It's not a lock, but it could happen. We'll have a better sense once we see how it holds up next weekend.
Going to be interesting to see how decent the legs are for this. It doesn't seem to have much competition in the coming weeks.

Ridiculous opening for Deadpool. Who they hell would have thought that an R rated Deadpool film would be the first $100m+ weekend for February and also one of the biggest openings for a comic book film ever? Only Spidey, Batman, Iron Man, and the Avengers have bested it. That is impressive as hell.

EDIT: Oh, and it posted an opening that huge without the benefit of 3D showings either.

I know they charge more for 3D but most people I know avoid that garbage whenever possible. I'd imagine lack of 3D helps more than it hurts these days. Did Star Wars have a 3D version? The cinema I saw it in didn't offer it as far as I know.

Not to mention that it's the best opening for an X-Men related film ever. Try to wrap your head around that one!

Pardon my ignorance but this is an xmen movie? Had no idea.
