It's okay, sometimes you hate things people like. I've been torn to shreds because I dont believe there is a single truly good Sonic game. Just some that are more fun to play than others

Team ICOs stuff has never done it for me.

I'll grab another avatar Not, PM you a pic when I'm not on mobile.

Good luck with the release Wuvcraft.

I think I mostly liked RDR's story because it actually had a sympathetic lead and secondary characters, which is a massive rarity in Rockstar's games.
I didn't find him sympathetic at all. :(

Did you grow up on the first or shooters in general? Because if not, I can definitely see why it would not a person's interest. Also, even at the time I was disappointed with it as well (I've grown more accepting of it after that). Kinda felt like "Half-Life, but now outdoors!" at times, but particularly the contrast between the ever talking, ever smiling Alyx and the mute Freeman got on my nerves after a while. Particularly when the script prompted for a reply and none came.
Yeah, I never really liked shooters and I didn't grow up playing them.

OH MAN my friend's just said that he's going to be looking for a two bedroom place to live. I need to move out of my parent's house. This is PERFECT.

I'm waiting on my friend to see if he can afford one between the two of us. Can't wait.

Hard to live a real life while living with your parents :P

I liked Shadow of the Colossus mainly for the vibe it gives off. Never really played Ico after trying a demo. I was 11 at the time and too dumb to enjoy or try to figure that game out.

Yeah, I think the Uncharted series is pretty meh.

I have a love/hate relationship with GTA.

I've only liked V, of the ones I've played. And even then, I hated most of the characters and the story. I just liked playing around in the world.

I recall I bought into the hype and got San Andreas. Hated myself for it after a few days.

Bought into the hype of IV(I mean, those trailers made it look really cool) and hated myself for it after a few days.

I refused to make the same mistake with V and then my friend let me play his copy and I got a kick out of it, especially with Trevor's morbidity. Bought the game and two weeks later I hated it myself for it. :P

But hey, progress has been made! It took you two weeks instead of a few days to hate yourself! :P

Honest question: Does anyone remember Extreme Ghostbusters from the 90's

Remember Kylie? I remember me liking her very much and I kinda think that why I have a thing for emo/goth girls now.

I remember the parody videos on Youtube that I used to find hilarious that I no longer find funny at all

you guys are really taking big steps :o not judging, but I'm just surprised the first GAF baby will be born sooner than expected :D
No no no no no no no lol. No babies. Furry babies yes.
Also neither of us are planning on moving for probably 6 months or so. So plenty of time before anything happens.

There is absolutely no good Sonic game. Sonic sucks. I'll stand with you on that one.

My boyfriend's ex is obsessed with Sonic so the franchise just reminds me of her and makes me want to throw up. Pettiest reason to not play a game but whatever.

It could happen! Did you like the last Red Dead? ;)

I kinda liked Sonic Generations. But I think it might have been a fluke.

Sonic only existed as a marketing campaign. It was constructed as something to battle Nintendo with.

But its marketing purpose and game design are completely at odds with eachother. The marketing and motif of the game encourage speed, the controls even encourage and reinforce momentum, but the level design rewards caution. It's, at least when talking about the classic 2d ones, a horridly flawed design and just not a fun game. I came to grips with this at some point and it felt liberating to stop pretending to think Sonic games were great classics. There's nostalgia, sure, I'll give anyone that -- But the games, as pieces of game design, blow! They Jonathan Blow!

Any GAF couple that has a baby must name their child NeoGAF or a variation thereof. It is written.

I stopped watching one of my favorite shows because of a similar situation since she had a thing for one of the main actors. Just can't bring myself to watch it anymore.

Some peoples opinions, I tell ya!

Prophet Steves avatar that is the GAF symbol with "your favorite thing sucks" written on it is so accurate.

I just decided not to be influenced by this stuff anymore. at least concerning cool stuff. but good to know I'm not the only one who felt like this about things lol

I really don't care all that much about Sonic or Mario anyways.

Playing RKA on my Sega Genesis was a way more fun and actually had a soul to it?'

The sequel sucked and the 2010 Rocket Knight game on PC made my hands hurt when I tried to play it for more then 20 minutes.

Goddamn it hurts my soul that game sucking so bad killed that franchise for Konami.

I legit want a Rocket Knight metroidvania on Steam, man.

My ex loved Sonic. You got me.

JK, Sonic just blows

Muppet Babies Ice Cube in Straight Outta Compton looks uncannily like the real Ice Cube.

I've never had an ex before so I don't know if I'll do the same, but for some reason any thought of his ex makes me feel like utter shit and super insecure so I just stay away from anything that reminds me of her.

One day I'll get something resembling self esteem. Until then. :P

RDR is like...the personification of Rockstar's ludonarrative dissonance. A term a really try to avoid using unless it's applicable, and in the case of RDR it exists in tenfold.

I find the teams at Rockstar are exceptionally talented at writing dialogue and characters that are presented with believability. Their voice directors and recording sessions really show this, as actors deliver lines with an authenticity in enunciation and mannerism. Characters exchange words in an incredibly entertaining and beautifully performed way.

But really, Rockstar often fucking suck at merging this writing with the philosophy of building interactive sequences that the player themselves become a piece of. Hence the ludonarrative dissonance. In the case of Red Dead Redemption it's a great story with good characters that only exists when you're choosing to play the story and not when the game exists outside that. Which it does, and is unavoidable, because it's an open world sandbox game.

And I don't think that detracts from the story as an isolated experience, and quality found within, but I do feel it warrants discussion when the subject is the nature of narrative in interactive mediums. GTAV was maybe a stronger lean in the right direction simply by making the three leads generally detestable shitheads who could somewhat believably be doing bits and pieces of what the player chooses to do outside the narrative. RDR has too many stretches where causing chaos outside of the story is just outright at odds with the story itself.

EDIT: oh god im a wanker

I'm back baby!

First off, best of luck to ya Wuvcraft!
Secondly, AW SHIT HYPE LUCIAN
Thirdly, I've never liked Sonic and the fact that it STILL gets compared with Mario is fucking hilarious to me.

I'm gonna share an unpopular opinion that is sure to get me crucified but Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were never good.
Sonic 2 is a good game.
Generations is my favourite Sonic game.

I actually felt that Marston's actions during the story/cutscenes easily went along with whatever other terrible shit the player was able to do. He didn't come across as having a moral compass during the story, despite whatever he or the other characters tried to say. That was my impression though. I think by the time I got to Mexico I was just really angry at all the characters I looked at everything everyone did in the worst light possible.

Sonic 2 is a good game.
Generations is my favourite Sonic game.

I liked Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 back in the day but yeah, they probably weren't great games back then and I just enjoyed them because the Dreamcast offerings weren't exactly wild and crazy back then.

There is even the "I know you, John Marston" side mission thing. That was pretty good, but I ran into that one before the climax, so it reinforced the idea of the climax rather than detract from it had I done it at a different point in the story.

That's kind of what you risk by giving people choice and all.

edit: And Sonic Adventure 2 can go eat a dick. I have no idea why crazy people keep saying it's good. It's the same shit the whole time! 1 at least gave you something different to per character, even if only Sonic, Knuckles and Tails were worth playing. There is a lot of collision detection problems in it though, which also showed up in Sonic 2006, which is why think that game was based directly on SA1's code and presumably some SA3 prototype until they decided they needed an "anniversary game". And what a suicide party it was. Dear god.

That's fair but hey, at least there's always Power Stone.

Speaking of "at leasts", at least Sonic is no Bubsy.
That 90's mascot phase was....awkward to say the least.
