Finally got around to watching Melancholia, which has been on my list for a long time. I think it's last of Lars von Trier's movie's I hadn't seen, and though I find his work really hit-or-miss for my taste, Melancholia well and truly earned my love. I'd say it's a lovely film, but it's not really. Or it is, for its portrayal of depression, capturing overwhelming despair manifested as an end-of-the-world planetary collision and how the cast deals with this inevitable phenomena.

Definitely my favourite work from Lars.

I agree with everything you're saying here.

Saw it a few years ago and it was the right movie at the right time for me. I actually watched it repeatedly believe it or not. I found Kirsten Dunst's character, particularly in the second half, very relatable.

Sodium cyclamate yo. Even if it sounds like it'll kill you.

So with that in coffee and water instead of Dr Pepper I've basically cut out the vast majority of the sugar I consume. Now to see how things go from here.

Now is BritGAF's time to shine
Cyclamate was discovered in 1937 at the University of Illinois by graduate student Michael Sveda. Sveda was working in the lab on the synthesis of anti-fever medication. He put his cigarette down on the lab bench, and, when he put it back in his mouth, he discovered the sweet taste of cyclamate.
I love stuff like this. Rat studies are so fucking unreliable and easy to manipulate.
The released study was showing that eight out of 240 rats fed a mixture of saccharin and cyclamates, at levels of humans ingesting 350 cans of diet soda per day, developed bladder tumors.
FDA pls.
Damn chemphobia.

aw yiss, glad to see some people seem to get it. I felt like the movie got a lot of hate for being "too boring" and stuff like that. totally missing the point here.
have you watched Nymphomaniac? easily among my favorite Trier movies too. but then again, I'm a Trier fangirl, can't help it.

I wanted to like Nymphomaniac more than I did. Or I should say I just found it too long for the subject material, yet adored the subject material regardless. It has a really potent arc, I'll give it that, and earns its excellent climax. I felt so done when it was...done.

Dogville was my previous favourite, but I think Melancholia edges it out. Melancholia's subject matter is just so on point for what I like, particularly the way it presents and explores its themes. I feel people calling it boring are watching for the wrong reasons, focusing on the wrong, usually trivial components of the narrative. Mulholland Drive sometimes cops that response too, and that's a strong contender for my favourite film everrrrrrrr.

Getting reeeeall fed up with people offering to help on game stuff then being utterly unreliable after I say multiple times "you sure you've got enough time to work on stuff?" at the start.

Don't know if this is the right place to rant but I just needed to vent frustrations.

goddamnit

Bahahahaah

That's a laugh of solidarity, BTW. Not mockery. I know so much about what you say.

I guess it was kinda long considering there a two whole movies..but I never felt the length for some reason, it seems like a totally different thing compared to Melancholia. more "entertaining" in a traditional sense maybe? there was stuff where I could even laugh out loud (some parts were really serious of course). It's just something I love going back to..whereas Melancholia & Antichrist (also two of my favs) are superb but hard to watch on occasion.

Nympho holds no punches on sexuality and sex is hilarious by nature so in that respect it works really well by just say fuck it and has fun with the fucking. It's so silly at times, in great ways.

I can't even imagine the amount of people coming out of the woodwork for you since Ghost Song has gotten way more popular.
People that like to use the phrase "i really want to be involved". (Lit. "I wanna do stuff but not actually do stuff")
Fuuuuck

The thing is, this particular thing I could probably do myself but it would just be difficult and waste more time.

*sigh*

I get a fair bit of stuff in my inbox most days but still .. Most creative people are super unreliable . I've learned to expect it. The reliable artist is a gem to be held onto

Pftahaha, that's amazing

I've never seen any of von Trier's films. Probably because the first one I heard about was Antichrist and then just kind of thought maaaaybe not

Mulholland Drive is excellent though, I need to do a rewatch

Yeah that is super true, I'm lucky with the regulars I have that they're super great.

Other than that...hooooo boy

I just left a message on someone's answering machine. that's even worse than talking "normally" on the phone :S
Oh God I hate hate hate doing this :x

I always feel like I'm losing the ability to talk in those situations. like I forget how to verbalize the easiest words. ehm..eh..hullo! me name be trab this is message for u

I like to pretend answer phones don't exist

I always immediately hang up if it goes to a message and haven't set mine up

Hasn't gone wrong so far

Also Good Luck were super good and should make more stuff even though I think they've broken up

This, I don't think I've ever used one to leave a message. Apparently mine is set up though and then I need to go through the effort of finding out how it works in the very rare cases someone leaves a message.

I've never watched a Lars von Trier movie, only that music video he did for Slipknot.

Kanye West is one of the most consistently best rated/reviewed music artists we have had. But nice dig

"we have had"? We as in humanity? Holy shit. Kinda hard to fault Kanye for idolising himself when he hears everyone else do it.

we as in music today

but you really gonna play this game?

Why are we continuing to play this little game when we all know it has moved to the next stage?

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE MIDWEST IS?

But I don't know the singer of Sleeper

They sound o.k but you should definitely tell him to rename the band something that isn't a Minecraft enemy. They could name the band "Slime" or something.

@Jobbs apparently it doesn't matter that you can't give me advice on how to attract women cause apparently i'm already doing it right

If you find the location of Future City please give me the coordinates! That seems to be where a lot of chicks are.

mmm my precious children
