Thanks for the tip! One of the many things I still need to learn is what blocks what and better defense in general. I'll give it a try next time I play.

This actually isn't true though and shoryus can be blocked low or high, Low block blocks everything except jumping attacks and overheads. Standing block blocks everything except low attacks.

You want to block low as much as possible because things that need to be blocked low (sweeps, crouching normals) are harder to react to than things that need to be blocked high (jump ins and overheads)

Thank you for explaining how comboing works, just got the MK HK Shoryuken down, now I need to practice it with the actual AI to use it under real conditions. Now I can understand why gooteks said in his YT tutorial videos you need to have the basic arts down for the combos to execute well.

Not to sound pedantic, but this is just for target combos. Other combos that require links will actually work very differently, so be careful!

Ugh, I really need to learn the Vega Vs. Laura matchup. Can't do my usual mobile Vega shenanigans since she can scoop him out of the sky incredibly quick.

I thought so, would be to easy if it just would be that, but at least I got the
back+mp -> hp -> anything (i.e. fb, dp or hurricane kicks!)
st.mk -> st.hk -> dp
down, it connects and I get hits of 9, still practicing to get it down more easily.

I found a really easy way to clear survival mode on normal:
1. Pick Dahlsim
2. Start the match with a standing HK.
3. Do a MP fire arching over the screen.
4. Spam standing HK until the fire hits.
5. Repeats steps 3 & 4 until you win.

The AI doesn't know what to do because if they jump then the fire hits them but if they come forward then the standing HK hits or keeps them at a distance if they block it. I passed it on my 2nd try using this method and had perfects for probably half of the matches lol.

So I started putting in a little time with this game today. Despite eyeballing at least a third of the cast before launch, Dhalsim is the one that's really resonating with me right now. I also cleared the "story" mode for the fight money and the unlocks, such as they are.

I also spent some time trying to unlock colors for Sim. Got through easy and the first 26-27 of normal without much issue, but didn't finish normal. Kind of sucks you have to get through the entire thing before the colors unlock. Ah well, I'm sure it'll get better as I learn more.

That said, not having a trial mode to learn moves and basic BnB combos is fucking criminal. I know it's coming and that there are resources for that stuff online (which I intend to use) and that the lack of features has probably been beaten to death. I'm in this weird area where I love fighting games and also tend to suck ass at them. I'll seek information out, but I feel bad for anyone who expected this game to walk them through their chosen character a bit more.

Do you unlock colors just for attempting Hard and Hell survival modes? I have all 6 of ken's colors unlocked but I've only cleared easy & normal, and attempted hard & hell but failed.

edit: I had no idea that Ryu (and only Ryu) could parry in this game?!?!?!

Any good bison players add me...need help against him, these scrubs online are on autopilot with him because he has good normals and can cancel specials once he has Vtrigger.

OmniCloud

nah, talking about how the shoryuken connects lol

Oh, that's what you mean? Basically when Ryu parries the limb, he recovers before Dhalsim can pull his arms back so that's why he can still hit them. Crouch HP into Super also works, but I chose HP SRK because that would be the better punish. I tried cr. HP, V Trigger, Denjin but I never got that to work and it may not be possible.

Who wants to have some matches?

CFN: Suplex
good games.

That was completely obnoxious. 95% of the moves you did were completely safe on block.
I know i don't know FANG much as i've only played 3 of them, but the most i could do was trade with jab unless i got an ex move off.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong you played the only way you could play to best me in those matches, I'm not bitter about your play, it was more of how I had next to no options. Not to mention the occasional dropped punish combo.

I'm just bummed i couldn't figure out anything to do against any of you multi-hitting super safe on block normals.

Looks like i'm going to have to go to training with FANG to see what his weaknesses are. Thanks.

Nope.

Color 3 is for Easy Survival
Colors 4, 5, and 6 are for Normal Survival.
Colors 7, 8, and 9 are for Hard Survival
Hell Survival gives you a title, it may be character specific. I'm not sure.

Ken Stuff:

Cr MP, Back MP HP (Target combo) into HK Tatsu = great damage. Can also do ex tatsu to add more damage.

Great way to set this up often is to dash in and fish with crouching MP. Note: Cr MP has to be VERY close for it to connect into the target combo.

Another way to set it up is off a cross up MK. So jump over MK, cr MP, target combo, ex tatsu.

MK HK Ex tatsu is a combo. So is MK HK Fierce Shoryuken.

MK HK Fireball into super is a great combo for a hella lot of damage. Can be started with a jumping HK, jumping HP, or the cross up MK.

Slick combo: Cross up MK, Cr MP, back MP HP target combo, V skill held to do the run kick, into v trigger to cancel once kick hits, into fierce shoryuken into super.

crouching MP, stand LK, LK tatsu also combos. Hard timing for this game, but easy for a fighting game player.

If you activate V trigger you can do Jump Ex tatsu, crouching MP, ex tatsu. Solid damage, but costs 2 bars.

Crouching HP is a great anti air. Crouching MP anti airs oddly enough. Use MP shoryu to anti air and for wake up shoryuken of choice if you think they are going to hit buttons when you are about to stand up.

Standing at the right range and hitting standing HK then into kens run is a great way to get pressure set up and get in. Master shimmying with him, and you can get in and out with his crouching MP often for pokes.

There's more, but I hope that gives you a good start.

This is great.

Do you have a nice write up for Nash? Im trying to not play Ken all the time like I have since SF2, haha.
Even after 25 years, Im still not good with Ken.

Well, I learned the hard way what moves for FANG are safe.

When I do Sotoja (Poison Thrust) and you block it, that's a punish. Light Ryobenda (Trap) is punishable I think by her EX elbow.

You want to get in on FANG and stay on him, his HP is low and only has his command dash to escape with, which is not throw invincible.

I was a bit obnoxious with those HK marching knees. I was trying to see if it was a frame trap.

Just cleared Hot Ryu's Hard Survival course after several attempts today (died at 40, 41, 44). Now own all of his colors. Couple of nice blue shades for the last colors (and a silver PSN trophy), worth the rage. :)

If I can give any advice, this is: for the later fights (30+) try to keep distance as much as possible and spam weak (slow) Hadoukens. The CPU will block some, eat some, sometimes try to close the distance. It helps immensely to not take much damage and be able to get away with less life ups (I bought defense ups for the 30+ fights, before that it's pretty easy so I bought attack ups). If the CPU gets close, m.shoryken helps a ton, as does overhead neutral jump with fierce punch followed by fierce shoryuken.

Gief...can sorta parry.

I think I'm too soft to play this online. I hate getting trampled by the pros. Getting 7 hit combos off on me and doing cross ups and shit. It just makes me feel really really dumb and slow and I don't think it's something I can just practice and fix. I just react slower than these guys move.
I just know 10 seconds in a match that I stand absolutely no chance, not even random luck exists when going against some of these people. I might as well just stand there idle and take the loss.
I guess I just take it too seriously.

I should stick to teamed bases shooting games. I somehow don't mind getting trampled there.

that's the 5% that's punishable. everything else that is puts you out of range when you recover.

Connections seem awful tonight even on full blue bars. Probably half of my matches I saw pretty bad rollback lag. Was fine last night. Anyone else experiencing this?

Worst part of this game is having all replays available publicy on my profile so my friends can mock me when I get destroyed by their favorite characters. Damn it.

Finished story mode. Now to uninstall until Vs CPU is back.

Who am I kidding? I need to unlock those colors. :/

Game is starting to aggravate me.

I don't know if it's because I'm older (slower reaction time), using a controller (slow fingers) or lag, but 20% of the time when I block, it doesn't block.

With a controller, I pull off about 60-70% of what I want to do. Errors result in me getting combo'd or losing the match.

With a joystick, I can pull off about 90% of what I want to do. Unfortunately I'm waiting for my parts to come in before I start using my ps4 joystick vs ps3 joystick.

As someone coming from MKX(Im pretty good at it) how can I get better at this game. Its a whole different beast in terms of trying to counter opponents and knowing how to open people up.

Doesnt help that inputs feel really finicky compared to Mortak Kombat. Im using Nash, any tips would be appreciated.

I wait 10 minutes for a ranked match and it disconnects every time I'm about to fight one. Every single time.

This game is a piece of shit. Had it since launch and I have yet to play anyone in Ranked match because it won't let me.

Hmm pretty sure no one is really having that problem, especially that bad. Maybe check to make sure your NAT settings are open?

Everything is fine. I can play some friends in Battle Lounge now and then (when it works) but Ranked or Casual? Nope.

I can find matches in MKX on PC better than this. And that port is pure shit.

Sounds like an Internet issue, I've just fight 6 online in like 20 min

Actual gameplay is peer to peer. If your matches are consistently bad you might want to run some diagnostics on your connection. Speed + bandwidth means little, stability and open ports mean everything.
