What do you think Hillary's game plan will be come general election time?

Yes, I Have zero worries about this at all.
She'd eat him alive.

Are Democrats really going to make the same mistake as Republicans and underestimate Trump? Debating against someone who will make things up on the spot, insult you, then claim victory is hard. I imagine an exchange something like this:

Clinton: (two minutes of well scripted thought out policy)
Trump: "everything she just said is a lie. Americans know they can't trust Hillary just look at her poll numbers. They've known her for 20 years and think she is a typical politician and liar. With me American will win again. With Clinton America lost to Russia and lost to the whole middle east. We need an outsider to stand up and make America great again."

(half the room claps Trump declares victory)

This sounds completely like a plausible scenario.

I'm skeptical of Trump's ability to do this for 2-3 hours.

At some point it's going to look like he can't answer the questions.

It's hard to say. I don't think going on the attack suits Hillary much as a debate tactic. If she defends herself well against Trump's schoolyard bully shtick and sticks to actual policy she should do well.

A rolleyes kind of response is all that works with a guy like Trump. If you get emotional at all he's pretty good at turning it on you. He isn't very good as a pure debater, but he's very good at pulling his opponent down in to the muck.

Sanders has a greater advantage over every Republican in the field

Poll after poll shows this

Hopefully Sanders is still in the race by the time I get to vote in the primary

A Clinton win is probable but not inevitable

Seriously, Clinton during the Benghazi hearing has to be one of the most impressive political showings I've ever seen. I have absolutely no doubt that she can not only handle anything Trump throws at her, but cow him. And then watch as CNN ask "Is Hillary too...domineering?"

I hope she campaigns on the most ridiculous republicans in congress. Plaster the air waves with their nonsense to motivate people to turn out.

It's because he carries Independents in most situations. Historically there have been plenty politicians that couldn't win Primaries but would probably do great in a GE.

The idea of Trump in the GE makes me wish Obama could still run. He would destroy Trump as he has already done in a few of his private speeches and at the correspondents dinner. Obama has the right mix of gravitas, humor, and snark to make Trump look so so small.
Eh Obama is a good speaker but bot the best debater. I remember when the cnn fact checker threw Romney under the bus and it turned out she was wrong but nobody knows because that came out after the debate. Obama comes off as very arrogant and acting like he's above people

It'll be interesting to see how Trump adjusts, because the Clinton campaign isn't going to be sitting on their hands the whole time like the other Republican campaigns have been with Trump. Nor will they have trouble getting TV coverage.

My hunch is you attack the guy like Obama attacked Romney for being rich, out of touch, not a good businessman, and also hit him hard on foreign policy experience.

She looked pretty bad and avoided all the questions it was pretty bad

Well, for all the excitement about Trump, more Dems still came out to vote in NV than Reps. I know as an outsider watching Trump rise as he is, it's hard to think otherwise, but that electorate is not representative of all of America. Hell, it's not even half of the GOP.

There are plenty more rational and intelligent Americans out there. Many within the GOP itself who will cross the aisle to vote against him. Furthermore, the electoral map is tilted in her favor, he'd have to sweep the board. She'll win, she'll be fine.

And she's not gonna take things for granted, that's for damn sure.

"He's too rich to be a good president!" I can't believe people fell for that argument. How sad

The more important question is, how does Trump look to the electorate when he skips a debate because Megyn Kelly is moderator? It's one thing when you're in a clown car, something else in the fall entirely.

I'm a woman.

9/11.

Boom.

In terms of stuff she'll do independent of Trump, having Bill, Obama, and maybe Sanders on the campaign trail for her will go a loooooooooong way into firing up her base.

In terms of direct confrontation, I fully expect her to dismantle him during the debates. The GOP guys have 2 primary weaknesses re: Trump; firstly, they don't really disagree with him on a lot of stuff, turning all their attacks into basically tone whining, and second, they're fucking amateurs when it comes to dealing with the kind of personal heat he throws around. Hillary's been dealing with much, much nastier people than Donald J. Trump for a very long time. She's going to go up there and make him look like a child throwing a tantrum.

How will she be able to dodge Trump's bullying?

By not calling it bullying. If she frames his attacks as "bullying" she will look meek and weak, see Jeb! This plays into Trumps strategy of him being a tough guy, and everyone else being a sensitive little flower in Washington. She cannot have that dynamic unfold.

My advice to Hillary Clinton, is to never defend. Always attack. If she ends up on the defensive, then he is going to roll over her like a avalanche. Just exchange with him and use her wits.

Yeah man, look how happy Gowdy looks here. Finally nailed the Butcher of Benghazi. Made her look like a fool for the whole world to see.

All everyone was talking about after that is how poorly Clinton looked and how well put together the committee was in taking her down. I'd almost call it masterful.

What do you think Hillary's game plan will be come general election time?

She'll do what she always does - not answer questions and boast about her phantom record

EVERYONE thought he would fizzle.
I liquidated my betting positions way too soon :(

I didn't I had a firm belief he would win the primary, once he started leading in the polls. The man blow lots of hot air, but he knows the Republican demographic very well, much better than his doubters did. Their dog whistles and rhetoric had paved his way for decades now. He has the slick salesman routine America loves so much down to a fucking T.

She looked pretty bad and avoided all the questions it was pretty bad

This is straight up delusional. Nothing other than the fringe right anti-reality bubbles believe this. The overwhelming majority of opinions are that Gowdy and the rest of the committee accomplished absolutely nothing and Clinton came out looking strong.

When Trump announced his election, I knew the Republicans found their candidate. This is the guy behind the birther crap. His shit resonates with the GOP base.

He wasn't behind the birther crap he just hopped on the train. Late, in fact. The birther crap originated from the darkest fringes of Clinton "supporters" in 2008.

If Trump starts bullying her she just has to play the gender card. But really the 30 % of Americans that believe in Trump won't be enough to get him into office.

Trump is going to bully the fuck out of her and bring up things that she has no choice but to pivot around. It's not going to be an easy debate. It won't have the formality or the order of a Benghazi hearing

I have a feeling Trump would have the upper hand. He would use some of Bernie's talking points, "I don't take money from big corporations because I don't need to." When he asks Hillary to release her speeches and she refuses, she will look untrustworthy. Trump will easily call it out and gain a lot of people's vote. All he would have to do is paint her as a politician. I feel like Bernie would hold up much better against him.

Forget the debates. That's a sideshow. By the generals people have already made up their minds and stats show that they rarely make a difference in voter patterns.

I think Hillary and her campaign need to play it cool and composed while SuperPACs troll the ever loving shit out of Trump. He can't take his own medicine and it isn't going to take too much effort to show a majority of Americans that he doesn't belong anywhere near the Presidency.

Huh. Could have sworn GAF knew Trump would fizzle out and not make it to the GE. Whatever happened to that?

This, and GAF right now is making it to be no contest, and that Hilary runs away with it. Not a chance this happens, this isn't going to be a walk in the park for her.

She could hit back and imply that he is one of the corrupt company heads trying to bribe politicians. Say that she would happily release her financials if he did the same. Sanders probably is clean, so she can't retort there.

Clinton will need to overcome her perception issues. Her previous lies and current investigations will be character issues she will need a strategy to defend. Once she gets that under control she can think about defending her policy stances.

I believe Trump would tear through her in the general. Bernie doesn't have the character issues Hillary does and can work on defending policy from the start. Bernie has a much higher probability of coming not ahead in the general.

Just hammer on Trump and make the same basic Democratic policy promises she's been making all along. Unlike the Republicans who have avoided attacking Trump because they're in a weird game theory situation where they're better off attacking each other, and because their base won't let them go hard against Trump's racism and sexism and general boorishness, Hillary will have pretty much free reign to attack all of that. Trump will have his white working class voters and Republican loyalists who can never bring themselves to vote Dem, but Hillary will have energized minorities and women, she'll have Bernie lobbying hard to his supporters to vote for her, and she'll have the moderate, middle-class suburbanite voters who won't deal with Trump's buffoonery. Once we get to the general election and the majority of the population that only tunes in once the real election gets underway start paying attention, Trump is doomed.

"i'm not as bad as the other guys"

"i have experience"

"obama"
I don't think this would really work. Many Americans look for the loudest, most obnoxious and charismatic person, not the most logical. There's a reason why reality TV is so popular in America and Trump knows how to be a reality TV personality.
Those points wouldn't make a dent because Trump would always try to get in the last word.

I'm worried that Trump will slam here on her wall street record. If she is arrogant or wishy washy in response I'm worried she'll crumble.

If there wasn't any local stuff being voted on I wouldn't vote come November. (I live in Texas, she has no chance here)

I really don't understand this. People think politicians are too cozy with Wall Street, so vote Trump? That's CUTTING OUT THE MIDDLEMAN!

Trump will be embarrassed in the debates. Hillary's depth of knowledge is unmatched on most topics.

Trump better start studying now if he wants to hold his own, but even then I doubt it would make much difference.

General election polls before the primaries end are pretty much meaningless.

Republicans have been hammering Hillary since 1992,
she has a tank armor thick skin, she is tough, she got grilled by a bogus hearing for 12 hours, she made them all look like n00bs

she is the opposite of Jeb

Hillary is going to bait Trump into her trap, not the other way around

She will probably try and make him look as crazy as possible and show herself as being the sane choice. If he tries to pull the same stuff that he has during the primaries she won't have too hard of a time doing so.
