I am definitely less inspired by Hillary's speech than Bernie's. There is just not as clear of a message. I just don't see her vision for the country coming through as clearly.

I would never do that when someone like Trump is on the other side (or anyone in the current GOP), but that says something about Hillary, that she can't inspire a vote against a Looney Toons character. Yeah, Virginia housed the capitol of the Confederacy (and when I was a kid they were still calling Martin Luther King day "Lee Jackson King day", because celebrating Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson on the same day is totally cool, honest!), and you'll still see Confederate flags flying around plenty, but it's not really part of the South as most people think it any more.

Northern Virginia has seen a massive boom in population. The other major population center, Hampton Roads, also doesn't feel anything like what you would see in what people think of as the South.

Fifty years ago Virginia was part of the South (but never as much as other Southern states; Virginia voted for Nixon instead of Wallace in 1968, after all), but today it's really not. The state is much closer socially, demographically, politically, etc to Maryland and Delaware than it is to any southern state, even North Carolina.
