This is the 2016 version of Malyse's Age of Ultron vs The Force Awakens thread. I'm going to ask generally the same questions from the last thread with one added question.

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?

Which film will be the best received by GAF?

Batman v Superman will probably gross the most.

Civil War will get the best reviews.

I would go see Civil War first, then Rogue One, then BvS, but I'll definitely see them all.

Rogue One will be best received by GAF.

I'm guessing Batman/Superman will do better than a Star Wars spin-off, but then, we haven't seen a Star Wars spin-off before, so there's no frame of reference.

As for myself, I haven't heard of Civil War, couldn't care less about comic book movies, and will see Rogue One but probably not until it's on blu-ray.

rogue one best reviews easily. possibly highest grossing too.

out of civil war and batman bin suparman. former will prolly have better reviews, and financially they will be close.

edit:
see first: rogue one > batman > civil war most definitely.
well received on gaf: who cares

It's really hard. I'm personally betting that Civil War will come out the big winner but Marvel fatigue is setting in while DC is coming in as the fresh faced new kid on the block. I think Rogue One will be the lowest grosser partly because it's playing second fiddle to the main trilogy and isn't going to receive the marketing push TFA had. It depends on how well the movie is received in the trailers.

As for critical reception if Civil War really is more Winter Soldier than it's going to be the best out of the three and the one I want to see right now. Batman v Superman will probably be more loved on Gaf because Gaf don't like Mahvel. Again I gotta see footage of Rogue One but because this isn't Episode VIII and I'm always wary of Gareth Edwards this is the one I'm least certain about.
So my guess (WW):
Civil War: 1.2 billion (most acclaimed)
Batman v Superman: 1 billion (most loved on GAF)
Rogue One: 800 million (just there)

Probably low balling it. Will edit when I'm wrong.

BO Gross: Rogue One >>>> Civil War > BvS

Critic Score: Civil War will have the higher RT but Rogue One will have the higher Meta-score

Civil War is my most anticipated blockbuster movie this year

Highest gross? BvS (but barely)

Highest acclaim? Civil War

See first? Civil War

Best on GAF? Civil War

Really don't see Rogue One coming out on top anywhere.

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?
Captain America: Civil War (It's the safest bet IMO) goodwill from past movies, heroes fighting each other plus Black Panther and Spider-man introduction in the MCU, Rogue One depends on how they market it and the presence of Vader in it. BVS depends on the quality of the movie even though I see it opening to 200 million first weekend or close.

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?
Star Wars: Rogue One

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?
Captain America: Civil War first, Batman V Superman and Star Wars Rogue One in that order

Which film will be the best received by GAF?
Captain America: Civil War

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?
Rogue One, even if it's not a numbered Star Wars movie it's still Star Wars and the trailers will probably show Vader a lot. Even if only half of TFA's audience shows up for Rogue One it will easily beat the other too.

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?
Civil War

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?
Civil War, then Rogue One.

Which film will be the best received by GAF?
Rogue One

Rogue One. We went through this last year. Star Wars is going to make more money and it won't even be close.

I think Civil War will beat out Batman V Superman. Marvel has mostly done better than DC here. The Superman + Batman together draw will be strong, but Civil War is coming out in a better and traditionally more profitable month. I think people in general are more invested in the MCU and "Marvel movies" than this DC Cinematic Universe...at least for now.

But Rogue One will far and away do better than both.

Batman vs Superman will be the highest grossing. Rogue One won't do nearly as well as Star Wars Ep VII simply because a lot of people are unaware it exist or aren't interested in it because it's not a main Star Wars movie.

Highest critical acclaim will probably go to Rogue One though becausr the reviewers got a hard-on for Star Wars, Batman vs Superman probably won't be a good film at all and Civil War will probably be just another Marvel film.

Highest grossing: BvS

Highest critical acclaim and best received by GAF: Rogue One

Personally, I'd see Rogue One first, but in reality my friends would probably vote for BvS instead.

Order (from top to bottom):

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?
- Batman v Superman, Civil War, Rogue One

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?
- Rogue One, Civil War, Batman v Superman

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?
- Batman v Superman, Rogue One, Civil War

Which film will be the best received by GAF?
- Rogue One, Civil War, Batman v Superman

Rogue One will make the most money.

Rogue One will also have the best reviews.

If you offered me a free ticket for BvS or Rogue One, I would still buy a ticket for Civil War.

Rogue One will be best-received because Star Wars has the fewest haters.

Uh...are you new to GAF?

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?
Rogue One(has fucking Vader in it)

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?
Toss up between Rogue One and Civil War

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?
Rogue One

Which film will be the best received by GAF?
Batman vs Superman, because it will be the worse of the three

Oh, brother.

Man I underestimated Star Wars on that thread. I nailed Domestic BO for Star Wars, but I put my faith too high on the rest of the world for Avengers 2.

Anyways,
Highest grossing at the box office: Civil War (Would have chosen BsS but given how Civil War will release nearly a month later, its going to Eat away a lot of tickets)
Highest critical acclaim: Civil War
Which would you go see first: Batman v Superman (Civil War is just another Avengers and Rogue One is a prequel, I need to see this new Batman in action and interested in the fight since Snyder excels in that department)
Which film will be the best received by GAF: Civil War (Force Awakens thought me that Gaf as a whole aint easy to please, Civil war seems the least risky venture )

Box Office Bets:
WW: Civil War
Domestic: Batman V Superman
Weekend: Civil War

BO totals:
Civil War: $1.6b
BvS: $1.5b
Rogue One: $1.4b

Even though I'm more hyped for BvS, I can feel that Civil War is going to be a better movie. +Spidey Hype.

Which film will be the highest grossing at the box office?

Rogue One > Civil War > BVS. They will all make bank, though.

Which film will receive the highest critical acclaim?

Civil War > Rogue One > BVS. I expect 90s on RT for the first two and somewhere in the mid 80s for BVS.

If they were all released on the same day, which would you go see first?

Rogue One. Super excited for all 3, though, so I'd see all 3 on that day.

Which film will be the best received by GAF?

Civil War or Rogue One, Gaf will criticize BVS for the rest of time.

Best movie - Civil War
Highest Grossing - Star Wars
1st One to See - Batman V Superman
GAF loves - Civil War

BvS could win an Oscar and score 99 on RT, there's no way in hell that get's above 50/50 love on this forum. A lot of people have already made their mind up, countless posts of "well I knew this looked like crap..." confirmation bias growing strong already.

I undersold Star Wars last time... won't do it again... but will probably be wrong on that again lol.

Want to see BvS the most because never seen either of them, and Snyder and Co. are gonna drop jaws with those fights and effects. Civil War i'm not excited because we've seen these characters, and I fully expect them to deliver what they have been delivering. Star Wars I have the lowest expectations for because of director and another prequel... I'll still watch it but I'm not sold on it yet.

BO Gross: Rogue One >>>> Civil War > BvS

Critic Score: Civil War will have the higher RT but Rogue One will have the higher Meta-score

Civil War is my most anticipated blockbuster movie this year

If we're going by RT and MC, then I agree... but flip those two as my guess.

A week ago, I'd have said BvS in a distant third. Now after the Fandango stuff? I'm a bit more hesitant to pull the trigger. Overall, I think this is a way closer race than last year. Everyone knew Star Wars was gonna kill it. But here? Anything kinda goes.
All estimated values here are domestic, BTW.

3. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice
As mentioned, presale numbers are exciting. But ultimately DC is still just launching this iteration of the characters, MoS doesn't have a ton of pull, and people are overall questioning the quality. Reviews are going to be a serious modifier here. I'd even go as far to say that if the film's RT score is below 60%, deduct $15M from the opening. But if it's above 90%, add $10M.
OW: $170M
Total: $500M

2. Star Wars Anthologies : Rogue One
This is a toughie. Nothing is bigger than Star Wars, nothing has been bigger than Star Wars. BUT - this is not a typical Star Wars film. No number. None of the original cast (as far as we know). Just a name, and a chance of being seen as the 'off-year' version of the original. But after TFA's huge bow, this is still a safe bet. Go ahead and tack on $5M if the first Episode VIII trailer is ONLY viewable in front of Rogue One.
OW: $181M
Total: $550M

1. Captain America : Civil War
Man, I could end up looking so dumb for this in nine months. Future Mushroomer25, forgive my ignorance and blind hope. (I trust Trump is not president-elect, and thus mankind still survived long enough for this thread to be seen in December). But I think Civil War outperforms Avengers 2. It's being marketed as not just a team-up film on par with the original Avengers (bringing in new characters, old characters, and the screen debut of an icon), but a clash with an unclear winner and stakes on the future of the MCU. The Russos have become the new darlings of Marvel, and packed a cast to die for. Oh, and Spiderman. You know, the hero that defined the modern genre and still holds a cherished part in the hearts of young and old. He's in this movie.
OW: $210M
Total : $650M

Everyone in the gaf thread didn't seem to know that Star Wars would kill AoU.

whats rouge one?

The first anthology Star Wars movie releasing in December.

It's takes place a bit before Episode 4, it deals with the group of rebels who stole the Death Star plans.

This is the only official image they've shown.

There's also this teaser but this was shown before they started shooting the movie.

So you'll probably not see that scene in the actual movie, it was just made for the crowd at the Star Wars Celebration event.

Rogue One should be the top grossing pretty easily. I guess Civil War will get the best reviews. Which one I'd see first? Probably Rogue One. I'm hoping Gareth Edwards can finally make a movie that isn't a boring slog.

Tough call-but knowing what's been rumored about Rogue One, I think it's going to get a big audience when people see the trailer.

Darth Vader

Civil War will not win worldwide, that will be between Batman vs Superman and Rogue One. You do realize that Marvel movies aren't very popular outside the US, right? The only way I could see Civil War getting that popular is if they decide to market Spidey hard the coming months, as if he was the main character.

This is the 2016 version of Malyse's Age of Ultron vs The Force Awakens thread. I'm going to ask generally the same questions from the last thread with one added question.

1) Rogue One

2) Civil War or Rogue One. I'm guessing the latter by a hair.

3) I'm not interested in BvS in the slightest, will get dragged to Civil War by my daughter. Will see Rogue One opening day come hell or high water.

4) Not sure how to measure this.

STAR WARS: ROGUE ONE.

The first anthology Star Wars movie releasing in December.

It's takes place a bit before Episode 4, it deals with the group of rebels who stole the Death Star plans.

This is the only official image they've shown.

ahh, cool thanks.

in that case ill guess rouge 1 > civil war > bvs

I don't know which will grow the most but Rogue One will have both critical acclaim from the press and for Gaf.

If I had to see one first it would be Civil War, Cap 2 was a great movie and I'm expecting a lot from the Russo brothers. After that It's BvS and then Rogue One.

This is actually really tough with the inclusion of Rogue One. Only my most diehard Star Wars friends know a movie is coming out this year. There's been almost no hype around the internet from what I've seen but I really think that's because they just haven't really bothered marketing the thing yet since it comes so late in the year (mid-December). That makes it hard to gauge this early on but fuck it let's go for it anyway.

All predictions below are based on my travels around the internet (with the exception of Rogue One which I am just tossing a dart in the dark).

B.O. Gross:
Rogue One - $1.5 billion
Batman v Superman - $1.4 billion
Captain America: Civil War - $1.2 billion

Critical Reception:
Rogue One - RT 88%-92%
Civil War - RT 83%-87%
Batman v Superman - 78%-82%

Which would I go see first?
Batman v Superman

Best received by GAF?
Civil War
