Xbox One Backwards Compatibility Thread: Everyone wants it, no one uses it

Castlestorm? I know that only because I own both versions thru Games with Gold.

CastleStorm too, I think. Pretty disappointing that the Definitive Xbox One version was made available through GwG early in 2015 and then the 360 version was offered through GwG later in the year. I'm not interested in that game in the first place.

THANK YOU!

Yep, that's the one. I own both versions as well and haven't touched either. Not my type of game from what I read. Will try it eventually.

But, to the point, remastered games have had BC versions released before, so it could happen with Halo games as well as with Dark Souls 2.

Halo games will come 100%. MS have already said all games they've published will be BC. So Halo, Minecraft, Forza, Gears, Crackdown as long as there's no licensing issues.

Games with remastered versions are tricky but I think for most they'll come at some point, if the remastered version isn't selling any more they may aswell put the 360 on GWG then put the remaster on GWG a few month later and make a bit extra out of it. Would rule out remasters like GTA though because that thing will never stop selling.

I'm new to this; does this part of the BC section on Xbox.com mean that these games are coming this month?

Nope.

Not sure what the point is of advertising all 3 Bioshock games there. Tells me they haven't got much to offer.

I think that after the Store goes live we will see a lot more titles being BC. I knew MS was supporting their own iniciative by putting their own published games out, but I had not heard anything specific regarding the Halo games (other than Reach)

They're probably just the the games that MS were told by publishers "Yeah, we'll put that out.". You know, without a date, any testing yet or if they wanted to use it for any marketing/pre-order bonuses. Halo Wars not being out is funny though, bet it won't be until the sequel.

I agree, I've always said I think games are behind held off for the store to properly launch, here's hoping that's true.

They don't need to say anything specific about Halo, they said all published games will go to BC and that kind of confirms them all in other words. If there's no licensing issues with Halo 1,2,3,4 and there probably isn't then they will come. They never said anything about Reach either until it actually came out.

I don't think you have to worry about halo 1-4 coming to BC, it's just a matter of when.

That's great! The only thing that I'm wondering is what is going to happen with region lock. As far as I know some games on the Xbox360 Marketplace were region locked.

Since the Xbox One store is region free, it might be a bit of a hassle. Hopefully they took all this time to figure it out and give us a region free store for all 360 BC games.

Fake edit: Now that I think about it, BC game downloads weren't region locked, regardless if the digital game was region locked at the moment of purchase.

Actually, Halo Reach (and all the other current "coming soon" titles) were announced on November 9th, the public launch of backwards compatibility. Halo Reach was made available to Xbox One users on December 17th with questionable results.

Almost 3 months later and Reach still hasn't been fixed.

If you're referring to the game's performance, I assume the current XB1 simply doesn't have the horsepower. Some games are more demanding than others.

Current theory is that the Xbox One's CPU just isn't up to snuff to emulate some of the more demanding titles, like Reach.

Yep, from Digital Foundry's findings, it seems that CPU intensive tasks for the emulated VM cause the frame drops. Heavy GPU intensive tasks seem to shine in the VM (probably because it's a more one to one translation). Hopefully Microsoft finds a way to optimize their emulation further. Executing on backwards compatibility restored my faith in Xbox.

I stand corrected. They did announce Reach was coming. I didn't remember that.

See that ghostbusters trailer is making me pumped for the movie . I so wanna play ghostbusters again. I hope it comes to bc. Wish my xbox didn't brake.

Holy shit CARCASSONNE?!

Yes!! YES!

This is the ONE game my partner and I love equally. Finally the best version is here!

Looks like I'm taking my Xbone with me to Tokyo again. Might be time to get her to buy her own.

Why does Halo Reach still run like shit? So glad we allowed Microsoft to fuck up the MCC and never fix it so they now know 20fps is "good enough" for Reach. I take back every good thing I ever said about them.

Did you input the code? It would be nice if this showed up in my download list this weekend.

I clicked on 'redeem' and it of course informed me that I already owned it. But I noticed that it says in the message that you will get it when it is available. So apparently it is still not ready.

does this mean you don't need the code? I'd love to take it off your hands :)

I came here for some dark souls news and I'm disappoint.

Join the club.

I'm desperately praying they release it this weekend. The only thing giving me hope is the fact they they finally shipped the codes for pre-orders. Logically, it wouldn't make much sense to give you the code for a game that won't be ready anytime soon.

.... Then again, common sense doesn't always apply in these situations.

Netbook CPU does that unfortunately.

It's sad.

Don't try Gears 3 though.

How come it runs worse on Xbox One BC than Xbox 360? It cant possibly be because the hardware is inferior, I mean the Xbox 360 was released 2005 and One in 2013.

Bait? Whatever, the Xbox One is emulating these titles. Basically it's pretending to be a 360 with varying degrees of accuracy. Outside of the more vocal issues it does the whole charade pretty well. But emulation always takes more processing/acting than running the game/application/impression.

I wish the media would hold them accountable for this kind of thing. Halo: MCC and BC were two of the things they were doing to try and turn around their image. So far they have screwed up both royally. I'm happy with some BC games, but after Halo MCC, they owe us a great playing Reach. Instead, they rushed it out the door in an unplayable state, just so they could have another bullet point.

More to the point, the xbox 360 is based on totally different architecture to the XB1, It's basically 'magic' to have 360 games running at all on the new console.

Why can't ps4 not emulate ps3, it's even 50% more powerful than the xbone?

The PS3 is a whole different beast and Sony don't have virtualisation experience. Even if it was MS trying to run the PS3 on a PS4, I'd be very shocked if they managed to pull it off.

It's not apples to apples and it's not just raw power.

So is it possible there would be more XBLA BC or is it all retail 360 releases at this point? I feel like if Ikaruga is there, Radiant Silvergun and Triggerheart Excelia belong too.

I ditched my old 360 hardware, but I might jump back on the platform for the few XBLA releases that you just can't play elsewhere in HD.
