The Division - Review Thread

Dear "I didn't like the beta" people,

the full game is quite different to the beta. A lot more things to do, dz is packed full of enemies and the missions get pretty damn good.

Beta was pretty much the tutorial level.

Would have really played this if it had a story/offline mode. But the way it is, it's just not for me. Same can be said for several other titles out. Industry's veering into the online only territory, and I'm sitting here sad.

Im gonna need to read up on some spoilers for this game right away cause aside from the unique element of the Dark Zone this game looks generic as fuck.

I dont see what this does different from other 3rd person shooters? The AI certainly isnt better.

It's really fucking fun to play and the experience is amplified when you're playing with your friends. Add to that the setting and atmosphere the game generates and the game gets it's hooks in to you and time just whizzes by. lol

Then of course there's the Dark Zone...

Has there been any talk of them adding more faces/hairstyles? I don't like the variety, nor do I see the point in investing time into a character that looks like everyone else. There are like 7 headtypes, and no ability to change anything else. Nor height or weight. That's just not acceptable.

What do you do in the dark zone though? It was boring after an hour in the beta. Is there more to it in the main game?

I think it goes without saying that any game with loot is more fun with friends. Otherwise i wouldnt have finished Borderlands 1 and 2.

Very happy it's reviewing well. I still need to start it, finishing Primal soon, then I can jump in 100% into Division.
It has everything I want in a game, and I'm glad that they have matchmaking, something that would have kept me in Destiny for much longer.

Hi, I'm nortonff. I spend my life going into threads to say that I don't care about the topic of the thread. It's a really good use of my time.
Is this game fun if you don't have a group of friends to play with?

I wanna know this to...and if the game have any type of match making ou lobby for finding other players.

The game is ok, but I haven't felt compelled to play it.

I'm level 14 with one char, mostly solo and roaming around town, doing a bit of everything (main quests, side missions, encounters, dark zone, intel hunting) and lvl 12 with another character that I'm leveling with a friend (it's definitely more fun with other people).

I'm having a pleasant time yet I feel something's missing to it.

It's interesting seeing people saying it looks generic. I can understand from just a thematic nature as its a modern day gun game, but there haven't been many (if any) games that have copied Alpha Protocol and Destiny was the first shooter of its type.

I would say it is mostly Alpha Protocol mixed with Destiny which is pretty unique imo.

Well the Dark Zone is much, much bigger in the final game and much tougher. You can't really go in there and accomplish much if you're leveled under 12 for example.

DZ just becomes more of an isolated and tense experience because not only do you have extremely tough NPCs to deal with but also other players who may or may not turn on you at the drop of a hat. Those 90 seconds trying to extract your gear are some of the most tense moments in the game, every time it happens.

It's pretty much Escape From New York...only with other players. lol

I wasn't even talking about the loot though. The gunplay has a great feel to it, the story missions I've done have been long and offered great and memorable firefights and some of the random encounters or side missions become something special especially with the dynamic weather and time of day comes into play.

This is the first game in a long time that's made me completely lose track of time and not realize I sat down and played a fucking game for 6 hours straight with my friends. Fucking crazy. I just hope we keep having as much fun when the incursion releases and DZ population ramps up a little.

Nice. I broke down and got a copy from Amazon yesterday (20% discount, free same day delivery!).

My friends like it, the first set of reviewers like it, I think it's safe to get it out of the wrapper for the weekend.

So from my understanding this is a better Destiny. I may pick it up. Is the DLC region locked? I am moving out of the country so I do not want to get stuck not being able to buy the DLC.

Really good scores. My only concern is end game and longevity. Didn't like dark zone got boring fast. What do u do at lvl 30?

I have tried doing a daily on challenging mode...INSANELY difficult but yields a superior (orange) gear and blueprint and a ton of credits. Didn't finish it because we need better guns, but I can see it becoming addictive. Dark Zone is adding weekly and daily activities starting next month and we will be getting a raid or "incursion" next month as well.

Definitely. There's matchmaking pretty much for each mode (Missions, DZ, and Free Roam). I know some of the safe houses have laptops that let you match make for Free roam and DZ that I know of.

Great start, but also a little nervous about post-launch content. Ubisoft Massive has made a great game, but sometimes you get different business units and whatnot planning out the post-launch details.

The Xbox One timed exclusivity is already a huge damper... I don't think they'll be able to afford too many more slip-ups if they want to have a long tail game.

This is basically what I'm waiting on. Ubisoft has done a lot to damage my trust in them over a period of time. The marketing makes this seem like them trying to fix the damage, but actions speak louder than words. An exclusivity deal on a new franchise you're starting up doesn't strike me as the best of ideas...

My only real complaint? It takes fucking AGES to get places sometimes.

Agreed but there isn't much they can do outside of fast travel. The street are too cluttered to use a vehicle to get around.

wow is it really that good or is this a honeymoon phase? I am interested but I have not bought a Ubisoft game at release recently.

It is a very good game but it is also the honeymoon period. Let's see where things stand a month or two from now.

DZ01 and 02 that people got a taste of in beta is nothing compared to the shit in 5 or 6. 6 has some fucking huge packs lining the streets in gangs. Our favorite tactic is to try to pull the cleaners by one building in to the lmb in the street to get them to fight each other while we pick off targets. It's great.

fuck, I'm taking 20 days of work but my backlog is huge already.

I imagine that's platform dependent. PC wouldn't be, console probably is, but you should be able to get around that.

I got the game early, started playing when the servers were up on Monday 8am est. Played through the entire game on my own, now my friends have caught up and we play the dark zone together as well as daily's. I had a blast playing on my own, and it was more challenging as I had nobody to revive me or provide backup. I was also able to immerse myself even more because I had nobody in my party, the story is actually pretty cool.

Yeah..we accidentally went into DZ06...went running in to the middle of the zone..got wrecked and stuck in no man's land. lol So we proceeded to hide behind cars and take detours in what was a tense hour or 2 of us getting from DZ06 to DZ01!

Shit though...the difficulty for DZ01-02 is no joke now but thankfully level progression in the game and how you achieve the right loot and damage has been handled great so far.

That sounds good....Damn another game. I'm gonna be broke.

Those are some damn good reviews.

Not really my type of game, but this is great news for those that like this sort of thing.
