The Division - Review Thread

Im still have a lot of question..

1) Is good for a solo player?

2) Is repetitive?

3) Doest it has good campaign with and end?

4) I really hate enemies hordse that come to you time after time only to keep you busy and that creates a fake difficulty. Does it have this kind of thing?

5) How is the difficulty?

I hope somebody can help me with this questions...

1) Yes, this game is good going solo, but I highly recommend bringing some friends into the mix as it amplifies the experience.

2) It is repetitive as to be expected from an MMO. Usually you're fighting a faction of enemies for better loot. The immersion and varied environments is really where the game shines.

3) The story is just OKAY, I'm hearing the last mission is pretty lackluster. You can find items around the world that give some lore behind what happened before and during the outbreak.

4) This is a constant factor in this game almost always.

5) The normal difficulty is pretty easy, use cover, skills, flank, etc. You can set difficulties to certain mission for better rewards, but the enemies have armor, more health, and damage.

After putting about 10 hours into this I can see these reviews going down to a mid 70's by the end of it all. It's a good game, but it is pretty repetitive. Environments are kinda samey and the missions are starting to get a bit stale. Haven't gotten to the Dark Zone yet, so I'm sure my opinion will change, but for me personally it's an 8 so far.

I feel the average will go down over time but it might settle around 82 or so.
Personally having a ton of fun with the game still too early to
Drop final impressions feels like an 8-8.5 type of game, might open up a bit more as I stack skills etc

Sounds like there's mixed opinions on how the game is solo (some say its too hard/repetitive, some say its fantastic).

This is a potential dealbreaker for me.. maybe we need more time to know for sure.

It'll drop for sure, but I think it's a good game deserving of high scores. I'm 21 hours in and hooked.

I get a big Mass Effect feel from a lot of the main missions. I wonder if that was a big inspiration for them on the gameplay front.

I don't see it, walking around a dingy city shooting repetitive humans and bullet sponge bosses? Maybe there is something to the formula that doesn't come across in the videos. I wonder what the longevity is, what happens when you reach the max level? Are there raids?

Agreed. Dude seems like he just needs a break from video games for a few months+

Naw, it's just that Jeff has been doing this for so long that he has pretty much seen it all. It takes something special or something done really well to impress him.

I've got about 8 hours into it, and feel like a 93 is pretty accurate for me so far. I think the set pieces are solid, the loot loop is a lot of fun, and there seems to be a lot of game left for me after 8 hours in.

This game seems so divisive so far!

Sorry if I'm late to the game. I never followed this game because I thought it was just another Clancy-type game. But it doesn't sound anything like the previous ones.

I keep seeing it mentioned as MMO-like.

What exactly does that mean? Leveling up? Loot drops? Lots of people in a persistent or sandbox world?

Is it like a non-Sci-Fi Destiny?

I'd rather ask you guys since you all seem to be pretty tied into this.

Thanks.

I never even considered getting this game prior to its release as I despise most Ubisoft open world games, but The Division has really good word of mouth in my circle.

I'm pretty surprised. I still need to see more impressions though. I should've played the beta. How does it compare to Destiny?

Yes. All of these things. Although it's kind of Sci-Fi because it takes place in the near future, after a viral outbreak.

Having some high level thing to do with friends is probably going to be the dark zone stuff. Consider me thankful it's not a single thing that you do over and over again.

I think a 93 meta is fine, as I am really enjoying the game, but it's funny to see so much weight being applied to this review sites. Not exactly heavy hitters.

I also hope to see people mention the incredible sound design of the game, from the music to the gun effects to the ambient sounds

Absolutely flawless job

I'm expecting the metacritic score to drop down to around 80-85.

If it goes any lower then that I'll probably just buy the game at a discount in the future.

For me an 8 is damn good, don't get me wrong. I'm not one of those people that just uses an 8-10 scale, I even think 6's are decent games. I really enjoy it so far, what's kinda weird I enjoyed it a bit more going solo because of the whole desolate feel of the world. It's hard to focus on story beats when everyone is talking in a party.

I spent half my time in beta shooting out tires because the sound is so satisfying.

Close enough. It's a loot shooter. Gunplay isn't quite as snappy as destiny, but the tactical options in group play more than make up for it. We don't have the raid yet, but challenge mode missions have been super fun.

How many people can go out on missions together?

This game completely went under my radar and I've been looking for something new to play this Spring.

Is there a monthly sub fee or anything like that?

(PC version)

Thanks.

I like it and it'll definitely occupy my time but the style and design of the game screams generic. It's so, idk vanilla.

4 people in a squad including you
You have to pay $0.00000000000001 pesos per month as a subscription fee
(There is no subscription fee)

4 per squad, no sub fee, but there is a season pass. You can get the game for 20-30% off from some (legit) key sellers online. It's been an absolute blast in group play with people tailoring their builds to make the entire party a more effective machine in pve and pvp.

Does it have any sort of auto-matchmaking or is all up to the people in the lobby to form groups?

I assume they have some sort of lobby everyone hangs out in, like in Destiny?

Your really take that much stock in metacritic scores? Bruh
I mean is that really different than everyone on had praising a game and buying the game based on that? Some people want to know what the majority think before they buy something because they figure if everyone likes it there's a good chance that I'll like it too. Also reviews hopefully try to give reasons why they liked something or disliked something which the reader may potentially relate to.

I'll never understand why people get confused by those that purchase things based on reviews

The only thing that really annoys me to death are the NPCs and their lines. I will fucking shoot you in the face and cure your back problems.

Not really. You can automatchmake which means no lobbies, it's pretty seamless. Think GTA 5 mp without the lobbies.

Not exactly. There are small hubs (one in each level bracket section of the city) where you'll see a handful of other players, but when you're in the open world, you will be solo if you don't choose to search for a party. You can search for a party at any time, whether you just want to "free roam" or for a particular mission (after which you can choose to keep free roaming or break up the party yourself).

Between this, Rainbow Six Siege and Assassin's Creed Syndicate, it's really nice seeing Ubi games doing so well suddenly.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I might like this game.

Ugh - I just saw a Uplay requirement. Is it intrusive? I hate having to log into multiple accounts to play a game.

So an opinion is worth more if it's a big site? If anything those are less trustworthy. That's rediculous.

The number is arbitrary because the review scores that actually influence the metascore isn't comprehensive, so it's weird that people get so hung up on these scores. It seems far more valuable to find a collection of a few reviewers whose tastes you generally align with, then make decisions based on their verdicts.

They're a good way of quickly determining what games are worth looking into regardless of one's tastes.

I guess that's true for games that score like 50 and below, but if you're speaking about score distinctions that are more granular than this I would have to disagree.
