They're probably either having Japan essentially beta test it or the online services aren't ready for other regions yet.

This app looks boring as hell, but I guess it will be interesting to see how the link and meet up capabilities turn out here in the states. That's always been the main issue with the 3ds out here a lot of the time. People carry their phones more than the bulky 3ds, so linking this way is so much more natural and fluid. Wonder if it notifies immediately, or if it has a delay...

The UK embargo is up now (lifted at 7am GMT), so hands-on features should be popping up soon...

My time with it was only limited, so obviously Japanese users will be able to give more thorough feedback, but from the couple of hours using it on an iPhone, it's a great experience. The coin collection aspect works really well, with points given for all sorts of things, so I don't think there's a massive fear of having to spend actual money...

It's difficult to even call it a "game". It looks fun though, despite it not really being a game.
If I understand the impressions, this is meant to take on the likes of LINE? For those who can use the app and have friends on it already, can you start conversations with your friends anytime?
I guess what I'm asking is, can we look at this as an IM app with a huge array of cosmetic features?

The release is intentionally staggered. Other regions will be getting it later this month.

Finished all the missions and whatever and got me the Zelda Picross game for a 1000 platinum coins heh:

Hmm, good thing I have my old Galaxy Note 2 unrooted and with stock!
I will probably always use CyanogenMod on my main phones, so it will likely forever prevent me from installing certain games on it. It's a shame it only works on non-rooted stock or in rooted stock with Xposed. Though I wonder if it'll work on Android-x86 or Bluestacks or Gennymotion or some other PC version of Android.

Social media or face to face. There's no unique Nintendo ID associated with Miitomo, so there's no search function in that sense.

So do I get it right, if I have a rooted Android phone, the app won't work, even when downloaded from the Google Play Store? Or is it just an issue with the apk right now?
There are a couple Japanese mobile games that prevent the games being in run on rooted devices.. Like the Bleach mobile game or the Japanese version of Puzzle and Dragons.
Really stupid though.
My main takeway, outside of the trailer, is that Nintendo Japan opened a YouTube channel specifically for their mobile efforts

I wouldn't mind unrooting my Moto X for this though.
It doesn't matter where you get the app from, it doesn't appear to work. This may be a legitimate issue with the app, or more likely Nintendo wanting to prevent cheating such as exploiting the app to generate coins or something.
So from my 10 minutes with it: yet another boring social app. The mini games for clothing are going to drive people crazy faster than the badge game on 3ds. And that voice modulator... My God. I never want to hear a mii talk ever again.

Played around with this for a bit, it's a well made app with a lot of charm, as expected from Nintendo. Also runs as smooth as butter on my nearly 3 year old iPhone 5s which is nice.
Though it does have the usual bugbears expected from big publisher apps on the platform - stuff like in-app updates instead of those issued by the App Store, a dependency on Nintendo/DeNA's server (it CANNOT be used offline, instead you get kicked to a communications screen if you lose your own connection travelling through a tunnel etc). So you can't compose draft answers or browse the app when offline - not ideal if you're travelling.
Also, seeing Nintendo's achievement system (My Nintendo Missions) pop up as these motivators for My Nintendo points is a bit saddening. It's an admission that Nintendo has to "embrace" business science as game design as that's what the average person is engaged by. Real shame.
I guess they want to stagger the rollout depending on marketing plans for NoA and NoE.
But yes - the game is practically region free. If your Nintendo Account is set to Japan, the game shows Japan-specific content (like the Miifoto contest), but it's all in English.
Also worth noting that it appears to be entirely region free - you can change the country setting on your Nintendo Account and this will reflect in-game. So game content isn't tied to region, region only reflects the language of the game and the accents of your Miis.

Pro tip - You can use Mii Maker on 3DS or Wii U to make a QR code you can scan in Miitomo to quickly bring your Mii in.

Btw, the title is misleading. It's not Nintendo's first mobile game, but Nintendo's first app as the app itself is labeled as Social Network.

Thanks! You can also fetch your Mii from the cloud via Nintendo Account, though copying has to be turned on, so ironically I couldn't copy my own Mii for use.
It feels like the mii maker on Miitomo has a few more options (though a few less too) so I wonder if copying is even a good idea

The Google Play store listing says £54.99 is the highest in-game purchase...
I think i'd rather have DLC in this fashion, rather than polluting the main series games they make.
It reminds me of the Avatar Marketplace that Microsoft has. I have only brought a couple of items from there since it opened, but Miitomo looks like it is far more engaging and fun.
