Nintendo's first mobile game Miitomo out in Japan now, first English video

I installed the APK and created the Mii. Played around with it a bit. It annoys me that every time you switch between applications it goes back to the loading screen and refreshes or whatever it does. Also, I was not possible to not answer to the first question.

Anyhow, it's cute, but I don't really see myself using it too much. Even with the miitomo points hook.

Played around a little bit. It's definitely cute and I can see this taking off but I'm disappointed that you can only add friends through social media or face to face. This kinda thing seems fun to do with online friends or even with gaffers but it's a hassle to add everyone through twitter.

I played the minigame about 7 times and only won an item once. I assume the microtransactions are for coins that you can use to play the minigame. Yeahh I can see how that will bring in a ton of cash. The prizes you can win are super cute. Not seeing any strategy on how to win though, it's just pure luck as far as I can tell. Would've preferred a gacha system because it's just cruel when the characters misses the prize by an inch.

Haven't tried the interactions with friends yet because.. I don't have any, lol

Yeah, it's a bit strange given the purpose of the app, to make the social aspect easier. You are already in contact with your Fb friends and Twitter followers, there is no need for help there.

Nintendo UK just tweeting to tell us Japan has it but not when we can expect it.

Thanks?
But technically Tomodatchi Life already meets Mii Maker seeing as it has a built in one.

oh it's not out? I searched the play store for miitomo and it lists a bunch of Nintendo emulators, lol. Still, my phone is likely too ancient to run this.

Is there anything like the Music stuff in Tomodachi Life?

I think making fully direct-able music videos or short movies with Miis would tie in well with the monetisation.

Are the clothes and items gender specific?
I know you have to choose a specific gender for your Mii, but Tomodachi was neutral with clothing.

Based on the fishnet stocking picture posted earlier I'm going to guess no.

Alright, installed the Japanese one, considering it a "demo" until I can get our one and link it.

If anyone wants to be buds on there, add me on Twitter, we can check this out.

I've seen quite a few clothing options that are typical "girls clothes" available to me so I don't think they are gender locked

This is so very Nintendo. I was a bit worried at first when this was announced as their first entry into mobile gaming, but now I'm not. It's utterly charming.

Finally had some friend interaction and OK, I have to admit this is kinda fun. The game will actually read comments left out loud with their voices, so conversations can really come to life. It's also smart enough to detect emojis and smileys or even just words. A coin sound from Mario plays when your Mii says Nintendo, and my ":<" was accompanied with a funny animation of my Mii acting depressed.

My twitter can be found here btw, add me!

I have a few more friends now. Uhm, guys.. This is really good! Real launch here with Nintendo Account linking can't come soon enough.

That Nintendo Mobile page that uploaded the official Miitomo Japanese launch trailer has now also uploaded the same trailer in several different languages. Here's the English one, btw

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTFv6AT8t-8

This also means that Nintendo Mobile (for now) is a single YT channel WW, contrary to all the different channels Nintendo has, specific to different countries.

Watched the video quickly, it's really Tomodachi Life, I wonder how you use the game tickets, anyway looks like I'll like it.
Oh and the banner stuff is totally DeNA (I'm playing FF Record Keeper)
Reading the thread now.

Anyone who is new to f2p games like this should be aware:

The amount of loading between screens and transfers is not poor optimization, but constant check ins to make sure you aren't cheating the system.

Welcome to f2p mobile games.

you expect the answer "because it is Nintendo", do you?

lol.

I suppose I was expecting "cuz it's 2016 and everyone does it."

This should be a nice money spinner for them if it catches on. I do hope my fb doesn't get spammed like in the old days with Zynga.

What do you like about it? Seemed really boring to me. Probably going to uninstall

Well I was a big Tomodachi Life fan, and this feels like a natural evolution of that. Interacting with real people instead of facsimile versions of them is a great next step.

It really is a kids pachinko machine

Ah, Tomodachi was boring to me so maybe that's why this is so boring. Was the creepy voice in Tomodachi?

You're overselling it a bit imho. I can't see myself playing this like Nintendo intended people to play this. Yes, I did all the missions there are to get the Zelda Picross, but as for now I'm pretty much done with the app until they offer me some 100+ points missions. I won't bother liking and commenting other people's stuff just to get a bunch of points. Also, totally not interested in the fashion aspect. I'm looking forward to the other four mobile experiences Nintendo has to offer throughout their fiscal year and hope I like those better when they launch.

I really don't understand why the game has full English but NoA is quiet on when it is releasing. I understand mobile games typically just kind of show up out of nowhere, but why wasn't this worldwide?

Does Miitomo require a Nintendo Account or the Network ID? Because Scandinavia seems to be shit out of luck for Nintendo Accounts, it's so nice to not have Nintendo of Europe be the main distributor of Nintendo goods here.

Edit: Oh this is apparently known and Scandinavia will be let in on a later date :P. Nice, finally be able to get some rewards shit. Kinda dumb how we're treated as a separate region though. But at least we get localized currency in the eShops and such.

Yeah, I should add the disclaimer "This is good if you also enjoyed Tomodachi Life. If you didn't, you won't like this much either."

Of course, Apple and Google will make good money out of this and that's why they are embracing it. I lol'ed when I saw Nintendo Japan retweeting App Store Japan actually. :D

This kind of thing happened with Sonic Runners and PlantsVsZombies 2.

Game being already in english and yet the US has to wait for a proper release.

Is this common with mobile games?

So their servers aren't brought to their knees and people have an awful first impression and delete the app.

It's not rocket science.

Can't wait for Nintendo to make more money in one month off this game than they have in the entire span of the Zelda franchise and then realize what the heck they're doing making traditional games still.....

I really hope that doesn't happen..

I figured the whole deal the DeNA was so that servers would melt upon themselves and we wouldn't have to play this weird waiting game. Either way, it's pretty annoying. Why couldn't we get a firm date? Makes no sense.
