Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

This movie needs to do a billion to be at least passable. I don't see that happening.

there's also merchandising to consider. At their core these movies are vehicles for toys, toys, toys and shit.

if the movie successfully provides a nice refresh for toy lines and merchandise... I suspect WB/DC won't care.

People like to hate on Snyder's films and Superman for no real reason other than its the cool thing to do now.

They're just jealous of those bad movies.

So goodbye DC universe?

Well if it pulls a transformers and makes a lot of money, reviews be damned.

I still say have the Anti-Monitor show up in Justice League and reboot the universe-new cast, new tone, everything! A live action version of the DCAU.

he very much appears to be the world builder tho

way these movies are made you can't really dettach one from another

his take on the characters are the groundwork for all of this

favreau had a good take on Ironman, Snyder's take on Superman has been widely criticized

This film has three CORE characters to the universe. This is closer to if Avengers was a fuckup critically.

If comic book movies couldn't be stopped by Batman & Robin, Catwoman, Green Lantern, Daredevil, Elektra, Hulk (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, The Spirit, Spiderman 3, or every single film in the Blade, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider or Punisher series, what makes you think this will get the job done?

What are you talking about? Blade 1&2, specifically 1, were good movies. In fact Blade is what made comic movies cool again long before Singer X-Men.

lol really dude

I think it's been the most deeply criticized movie in a long time, at least in terms of fanbase

there's page long studies about why it sucked and got everything wrong

This is sad.

Do DC not know their own characters?
It's not that. It's just that over 80 years they've had a lot of different variations that have done well. Snyder like the more violent versions who don't care as much about maiming or saving the lives of criminals in Batman's case.

I'd have to guess that Bruce is bothered with the death of innocents.

Criminals aren't on the same level for him though

That's the thing, though...
we're still left to just assume everything. There's no context. Alfred has that line in the trailer about good men turning cruel, but cruel is one thing (and he does some cruel things, borderline masochistic) but that's still not fully crossing the line.

Is it totally unambiguous and direct or more like
"throws them off the roof and it sure looks like they should be dead or horribly injured but we never see it" style of comic book beatdowns
?

I'll try and be cautious here:

Safe spoiler:

Very direct.

More spoiler spoiler

Literally shooting bullets at dudes and blowing them up in cars. While we can't say "we saw the dudes actually get shot and blood flying" we can say "He did shoot that car, it blew up nice and big in a fireball and everyone in that car likely died." A few other things as well but those brazen-bullet-sprays gave me a lot of pause. Those aren't rubber bullets. There are other varieties of kills, some direct like that, some a little more vague, at least one where you can say "that's on the bad guys there."

The only movie of his I liked before Man of Steel was Dawn of the Dead. I didn't like Watchmen, 300, and didn't even bother with Sucker Punch because the trailers almost made me drown myself. But I liked his Superman flick a lot and so I'm giving this the benefit of the doubt. I thought it was well made and most people that complained about it did so over reasons that personally don't apply to me, and it's looking like the same will happen with this film.

It may be a giant pile of shit but I'm not fretting at all over the reviews.

If Hulk was a strike, Iron Man was a home run. Avengers was like going on to win the World Series.

WB could be looking at two strikes with Man of Steel and BvS. Not a good start.

If that's the analogy you want to make, shouldn't Marvel have struck out right around Thor 2?

I liked Superman II and Snyder did fine with Watchman. Everything he has done afterwards I hated. Snyder is a hack, accept it.
Superman could have been good if treated like Thor.

Haven't seen it yet, but I refuse to believe this is worse than Thor 2 or Superman Returns.

How about the other two hours?

The Rest of the Film Is a Bit of a Mess
The last hour and a half of Batman v Superman is a bit of a mess. It’s overstuffed, a mash-up of comic book source material with Justice League set-up crammed in — so much so that Batman’s actual fight with Superman takes up very little of this story. The film seems too reactionary, trying to address fans’ and critics’ complaints about past films. Jesse Eisenberg‘s Lex Luthor is over the top, and he and other characters take actions that seemingly make no sense other than as a way to further the plot. And it lacks the moments of wonder that made past Superman films uplifting and fun. Let’s break it down.

.

I'm assuming you've already seen the movie, correct?

I havent seen Civil War, I havent seen BatmanVSuperman

I have seen Winter Soldier

I have seen Man of Steel

I have seen other stuff by both these directors

Russo good

Snyder bad

don't get what you're saying

Did MoS have toys? Seriously asking, I don't remember at all.

Haven't read the entire thread yet, so apologies if it's been mentioned, but based on what I have read, why are so many people so upset or sad lmao

This is the same forum that loves that piece of shit Speed Racer and that got torn apart too

Judge it by yourself, gang.

And quotes like the one about why he didn't pick Gustin for the Flash movie make me question the whole DCCU initiative already. He said TV Flash doesn't fit the tone of the DCCU. Just imagine grim dark Flash. What a nightmare that might be.

Dude, I atleast liked most of Watchmen and think Superman is cool, and even I know this isn't the case. Man of Steel was majorly wasted potential. I hope this is a strong divide between audience and critical reaction, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't line up with expectations set by Snyder's preceding work.

There's been 27 reviews so far, at least added to RT. 10 of those liked it. There's no fucking way to get a grasp on anything yet and people are shitting the beds like drama queens.

Saying those 10 reviews liked it is being generous, if you read them it's almost surprising they gave it a fresh score

As long as it performs well at the box office they will. MOS got shitted on too and it doesn't seem to have changed with this film.
Well WB has purportedly already taken into conaidetation yhe prescreenings where the film didn't test well to heart. Rumors of them even retooling future projects to focus more on batman. I think they'll definitely take these reviews into consideration even when it does well at the box office

GAF is weird, that's for sure.

Loves them some Keanu, hates them some Cumberbatch. That one always get me.
