Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

A lot. I think his movies are succeeding based on the properties and not based on Snyder.

It's so sad. We could've gotten a great movie with the budget this movie had but now it's probably going to be MOS tier bad. I'm going to go see this on Thursday still as I already paid for the tickets, but man it's souring me from DC movies. I guess Civil War when it comes out will help me wash out the bitter taste of disappointment I will undoubtedly feel when I watch this.

Amazing is a bit of an exaggeration but yea I expect him to do better than Snyder.

If the Batman films suck then well the DCCU was a failure and they should try again in another 10 years.

Affleck did turn out to be a decent filmmaker but Argo was a weak as hell best picture winner.

lol let's at least wait for another 100 or so reviews.

There's no way it's Daredevil, Catwoman, B&R, etc. bad.

Daredevil DC is okay at best

thing about the DD movie compared to MoS is that in the former they got the character right, that's not what was wrong with DD

Bet BobbyRoberts is happy that Snyder who doesn't get Superman is getting a thrashing now :D
Snyder probably does get Superman. Its just that, people at DC/WB, and fans themselves all collectively thought he should reproduce Dark Knight Returns instead.

It's no one's fault. It's the result of drinking too much Batman Kool-Aid over the years.

I wonder if DC will be rewarded for making very tonally different movies from one to the next (this is very dark and serious, while Suicide Squad is comical, and Flash will probably be lighthearted, etc), or if it would have been better to go the MCU way and have every movie have the same tone.

I don't think it's entirely about tone. The Nolan Batman films were pretty dark. They still succeed as films for having good scripts, a director who can get good performances out of his actors and being fast-paced, intense movies.

Snyder films are invariably boring slogs no matter what tone they take.

It's fucking absurd. I thought when Affleck came on board with his guys they were going to make some serious improvements. Apparently that's not the fucking case.

Affleck is the most worrisome thing in this movie for me. Did everyone forget Daredevil? Before MCU and netflix revived him, Affleck had completely destroyed him.

So if the movie actually is rather bad, what does that mean for the DCCU going forward? It's too late to do anything about Justice League 1, but do they boot Snyder for 2? Put it on the backburner and prioritize a solo Affleck Batman?

I think, depending on how this movie turns out, Suicide Squad will suddenly have a huge new responsibility in proving the viability/appeal of a non-Snyder DC movie.

It really puts tremendous pressure on Suicide Squad. Batman vs Superman will probably still make a lot of money but the question for WB coming out of this is, can we still grow the DCCU like Marvel can grow their universe? Or is the foundation rotten? Suicide Squad is the test.

Herald Sun

'When the head-to-head heavy hitting finally transpires -- be patient, for it takes some time to get there -- Dawn of Justice delivers the shock and awe on a level befitting a superhero blockbuster of such massive scale.

Nothing. SS is coming out in a few months. WW is done and coming out next year. JL PT1 starts shooting in a couple of weeks. If anything Snyder doesn't touch Batman or Superman for JL PT2.

Movies like Cyborg get thrown in a "wait and see pile"

I can't help but wonder why they would put such important movies to the DCU in the hands of such a divisive director. I'm not going to say he's bad, because he's almost ALWAYS right down the middle in opinions. About half of the people like his movies and about half dislike his movies in pretty much all of his filmography. It's bizarre.

I may end up loving the movie, but why not give it to a more critically acclaimed director?

So many reviews are basically "not mah supahman!". I can't see how you can dock it points for not being the movie you wanted it to be. Get over the fact that Christopher Reeve films are in past.

I am more worried for Wonder Woman. How will that character be received after this?

I can say personally that the reviews don't affect me one bit. I've always loved Snyder's films. I love Dawn of the Dead. I think Sucker Punch is one hell of an underrated ride, and Man of Steel is my favorite Superman film of all. And Watchmen is a masterpiece IMO. So yeah, maybe it's just my tastes. In any case I have high hopes for BvS. At worst, it'll be a heavily flawed movie about some of my favorite characters in fiction. Which is still a very good, watchable thing to me. I'm not expecting TDK or anything, but I'm still hyped as fuck!

So does this mean Affleck is a shoo-in for winning another Razzie Award for next year's show?

If not necessarily for worst (supporting) actor, I'm sure the Razzie committee will make the next show's special award theme will definitely be made with BvS in mind. "Razzie Award For Actor Who Needs To Stay Away From A Specific Genre" or something.

Well at least something good came of this, Affleck's Batman movie should hopefully be good. That dude can actually direct good movies so that's a start...

Technically WB can still replace Snyder with someone else right?

that Owl movie is the best thing Snyder ever did

im serious. It's good

and it's CG so he could be hella flashy like he likes

dude should be a cinematographer or an FX guy

If that's the best movie he ever made, then I don't want to see another one of his movies again. That movie was boring as hell, and I'm speaking as someone who ate up the books as a kid.

Sure it's only three films, but I'd say Aflleck has been better than a decent filmmaker so far. Argo gets crap because it's a weak best picture winner, but it's still a damn good film. Hell, I think Argo is his weakest film

Dawn of the Dead is to Snyder what Red Dragon is to Brett Ratner. If you watched their entire body of work except those films, you would never be able to place that they directed them.
