Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

if the rumours are true WB/DC already knew the movie was a mess months ago, so I'm assuming they'll wait and see how it does @ box office before they do anything drastic... if it's a commercial blockbuster (like the Transformer movies) in spite of being a critical failure they won't give a fuck. LOL

This movie needs to do a billion to be at least passable. I don't see that happening.

From Slashfilm's review:

The first hour of Batman v Superman is pretty awesome. Zack Snyder knows how to start a movie with a bang, often doing so with a kick-ass montage. Batman v Superman is no different from Snyder’s previous films in offering us a visual feast up front.

From Slashfilm's review:

The Rest of the Film Is a Bit of a Mess

The last hour and a half of Batman v Superman is a bit of a mess. It’s overstuffed, a mash-up of comic book source material with Justice League set-up crammed in — so much so that Batman’s actual fight with Superman takes up very little of this story. The film seems too reactionary, trying to address fans’ and critics’ complaints about past films. Jesse Eisenberg‘s Lex Luthor is over the top, and he and other characters take actions that seemingly make no sense other than as a way to further the plot. And it lacks the moments of wonder that made past Superman films uplifting and fun. Let’s break it down.

I mean, are you cherry picking or trolling? I can't tell.

Of course they do. If the audience also has a negative reaction to the film, then it affects the audiences willingness to see future films in this franchise.

I'm talking about critics, do you think Michael Bay cares about the critical reviews of his films. It's a plus but the be and end all. It is a block buster movie that don't tend to that great with critics normally. Hell look at the consensus of Jurassic World.

It's fucking absurd. I thought when Affleck came on board with his guys they were going to make some serious improvements. Apparently that's not the fucking case.

Or they did, and Goyer's foundation (and Snyder's influence) were just that unsalvageable.

I mean I'm not going to shit all over this movie yet, but there's too much shit that's being repeated to not deflate my excitement.

The "Vs." will scare the average viewer, it comes across as fan-wankery of hardcore nerds arguing which superhero is stronger.

Nothing wrong with nerding it out, we are all on a gaming message board here, but when you got 250+ millions and marketing costs to cover, then there is a lot of wrong with that.

Critics wont tank this movie, the premise and name is just shit. Shame Affleck is wasting his time with this, he should just direct his own movies, better than anything Snyder ever shat out, that hack fraud!

We're right back in The Amazing Spider-Man territory of garbage. It's either keep chugging along (and pray very hard for Suicide Squad oh man) or throw it all out and start over even though we'll all be sick and tired.

Said it earlier WB is trying to hard also not thinking straight and to hasty since Marvel is doing phases and planned it long before. Suicide Squad yeah i don't know..but i have a feeling in my gut that it will turn out not so great.

maybe cause critics like good movies

russo good

snyder bad

I aint seeing any of the "superhero movies are tired and worn out!" in these, tho. At all.

Oh I'm not calling out anyone in particular, it's just a hypothetical and a phrase that's not foreign to GAF. And trust me, I know Civil War will be fantastic. I just see the same tired sentiment every time a poorly done superhero movie comes out.

I, for one, am shocked that this movie isn't reviewing well.

How anyone put their faith in Snyder is beyond me. Hope the studio dumps him and tries to salvage what they can for their planned DC projects.

Everyone knew this movie was gonna be a train wreck from the beginning. Funny how people were kidding themselves up until this point.

Reviews dont necessarily mean audiences will hate it though. Look at the Transformers series.

There's been 27 reviews so far, at least added to RT. 10 of those liked it. There's no fucking way to get a grasp on anything yet and people are shitting the beds like drama queens.

This made me laugh.

Iron Man was a gamble and it was insanely succesful

it's very, very different from this

this is a stinker after another stinker, with many future stinkers attached to them

all with the same people

MCU movies had different directors. directors like favreau rather than the Sucker Punch guy.

etc etc

Snyder is crap and they said "give him everything yea sure he's running this"

hella dumb

But the DCU will have other directors... At the moment Snyder had made as many films for this franchise as Favreau did for Marvel.

Edit: and wasn't Favreau slated to direct Avengers before he decided he was done?

Man of Steel has leverage, no Supes movie in a while, previous one wasnt very liked

This has Batman vs Superman, omg hype!

Third time? yeah, reviews and word of mouth about quality start reflecting box office

the "they'll be succesful so they'll keep making them!" defense only lasts so long

Avengers built upon the totally bland Hulk, Thor and Captain America movies and turned out fine (although that one also had a shimmer of hope with Iron Man).

If Hulk was a strike, Iron Man was a home run. Avengers was like going on to win the World Series.

WB could be looking at two strikes with Man of Steel and BvS. Not a good start.

People like to hate on Snyder's films and Superman for no real reason other than its the cool thing to do now.

This is sad.

Do DC not know their own characters?

Everyone must be dark and brooding like Batman!

Also
Batman kills.

At this point, I'd expect them to do something stupid like make Alfred some martial arts master warrior or something, because everyone must be Batman.

The humor in all of this is any fan or critic who pulls the "superhero movies are tired and worn-out!" card when we all know full well that those same critics will likely rave over Civil War in a month and a half.

what they're really saying is "average-to-bad superhero movies are tired and worn out"

But the DCU will have other directors... At the moment Snyder had made as many films for this franchise as Favreau did for Marvel.

he very much appears to be the world builder tho

way these movies are made you can't really dettach one from another

his take on the characters are the groundwork for all of this

favreau had a good take on Ironman, Snyder's take on Superman has been widely criticized

I'm assuming you've already seen the movie, correct?

How about the other two hours?

I don't even intend to watch the movie till it comes out on bluray, I just think seem to put to much in other people's opinion.

I've personally always took reviewers as second opinions on what to expect from a film. Its easier to devise what you are about to watch based off of the director's prior filmography and your own personal opinion on those certain films. So, when taking a reviewers opinion, its not the end all decider to the quality of a product, but instead a talking point that influences heavily the direction that public discussion takes. This time its negative, but how negative remains to be seen. The movie could build its own little niche for super hero fans wanting something less quip heavy, but based on the reviews it seems that Snyder's direction didn't really benefit this film.

ah fuck I already have tickets for Thursday's earliest screening

Going to go in with the lowest expectations ever and hope that it's somewhat salvageable
