Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

I don't think being worse than Batman Forever is entirely out of the question. Forever did have a few redeeming moments in it.

It does yeah, but Batman v Superman has more. At least in my opinion. I just can't stand the Batman world envisioned by Joel S. But either way, BvS has many good things about it. It's just overall a disappointment.

This thread is hilarious, depressing and sad all at the same time. People hopping on the hate train who haven't even seen the movie and just base their opinion on what other people say.

I personally thought the film was average, and yes it has it's fair share of problems. But it's nowhere near as bad as a lot of critics make it out to be (and i usually do agree with RT/Meta ratings, except for a few occasions). And for people who think that BvS is worse than Batman Forever, Batman & Robin...fuck, even The Room, Space Jam etc? It's not, don't be silly.

Hey, you think this place is bad, stop by over at IMDB.

At least here, we're not questioning each other's sexual orientation.

It's not the worst movie ever made. But you have to consider expectations vs. delivery. There were people thinking this was going to be the best and biggest movie of the year. There were people saying its box office numbers would beat The Force Awakens. This was the first time Batman and Superman have been together like this. There's so much riding on it. And at best the movie is mediocre.

Honestly, I feel like SS is their ticket out of this mess. Everything about that movie seems to hit the right beat. It's my most anticipated movie of the year (after Deadpool oc).

Assuming Batman v Superman underperforms at the box office or sees a massive second week dropoff, yeah, Suicide Squad is basically the make or break for the DCCU. I think the movie looks good but I have my hesitations. Any movie that thinks it's a good idea to cast Jai Courtney immediately gets some doubt. If Suicide Squad ends up reviewing well and brings in a good amount of money that might signal the end for Zack Snyder in the DCCU though.

You didn't think this movie had ANY redeeming moments?

I haven't seen BvS yet so I don't know, I was just arguing that being worse than Batman Forever isn't out of the question because Batman Forever isn't an entirely awful movie like Batman and Robin was.

If SS works out and wonder woman is at least competently made, you could still pivot away from this mess. But for that, you need to pretty much pull Snyder off of these films and/or bring in someone from DC who has a fucking idea what to do with this universe.

Like, shit, someone please go down the hall and get Bruce Timm to help oversee this nonsense. You have someone collecting paychecks from the WB who gets this, why not have them there to just make sure you're not actively producing terrible films?

It wouldn't be the first time a Justice League film was halted weeks before filming, though in this case WB runs the risk of losing out on their tax breaks and having to deal with their actors' schedules if they decide to pump the brakes on JL.

But, again, they've shown the willingness to not let JL happen before this. I think once we all see the second weekend receipts we'll know what's up.

Just remember... DC TURNED DOWN George Miller and went with Zack Snyder instead.

Then again, DC also turned down Joss Whedon. And went with Zack Snyder instead.

Is Jon Peters still calling the shots at WB?

Why do people go in to review threads and post this SAME thing every single time when it's a movie they happen to like.

Every time. It's happened at least 10 other times in this thread already, I don't get it, probably never will.

Jezebel is a Gawker website. Trash reporting. Hope Hulk Hogan bankrupts them all.

You could always read the interviews for yourself and decide instead of ad hominem insults, but hey, to each their own. I guess it would be totally racist if the Academy had more black members and, possibly as a result, more black nominations!

I wasn't aware, but it doesn't matter, does it? If people can write numerous times how much this movie sucks etc without actually seeing it, then i think people are more than welcome to actually write something decent about it.

I'm hoping for the best for SS, but it's going to suffer just because of how many characters it has. 9 members means that they all can't get proper time to develop as characters, so the focus will probably be in the main 3 and their lovev triangle angle and the others will be left in the dust.

None of this is right.

WB didn't turn down George Miller. His movie got canceled at the last minute. They also didn't turn down Joss Whedon, he walked due to dissatisfaction on his own project.

Both those men were hired by WB. Not turned down. And neither of them were replaced on their projects by Zack Snyder, either.

I gotta be honest, even though I thought the movie was trash, I think the average moviegoer is probably going to have a good time and come out of it thinking, "that was good, there were some good fight scenes and I really liked it when Batman punched Superman!"

I mean... to me that's not really what makes a good movie, but these awful critic reviews are still not going to stop this thing from being a huge word of mouth success among "normals."

Exactly. WB needs to know that DC films CAN be good and/or make money, just not have Snyder attached. Remove him and Goyer from the equation, get a proper manager to oversee the entire DCEU, and get good directors for the various films

Yep. They really need a Feige-like figure who really loves and gets this stuff.

There is no way they can make any huge changes/reboot at this point. SS is fine. WW and JL1 are in production. Aquaman, Flash, Cyborg and Black Adam have all been cast and some presumably have solo films in some level of production. I could see a lot of behind the scenes changes in terms of producers and writers if BvS has a lukewarm box office reception but I doubt they just start the whole thing over.
