Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

Hey, I hated MGSV too but this is essentially the opposite (especially if the audience reaction remains favourable). It was noted that the story was weak, but even then MGSV was overwhelmed with praise and glowing reviews, perfect scores etc. It's when hardcore fans invested hours in the game and formed their own opinion that they died inside.

MGSV is 10/10 for 30 hours

Going by the trailers it does seem to be a direct sequel to the events of Man of Steel, it even shows Metropolis being blown up from a different perspective.

But yes, I agree it was too soon for a movie like this.

I get that...but introducing a slew of other characters automaticly does not make it a Superman movie on it's own. Iron Man had 3 movies, all about him - even if some other Marvel characters had cameos in them. Same goes for Cap.

Supe hasn't had a proper movie series since the 70's-80's.

Reacting to reviews is all fine. Basing ones opinion solely on it is another.
Even if that was true, which it isn't, why would it matter? The movie isn't free, so if people don't want to waste their money (and time) on something that the majority of critics says is shitty, then I don't see why that's a problem.

HAHAHA wow. This is so damn gOOD. LOL!!!!! GAF DELIVERS

Same like BvS, where the first half was good and then everything turned to shit.

Seems like the two halves of the movie are so drastically different that either one is turning people off. I've read that the first half is boring and too long before the action that people crave really begins. Then I've read that the second half is a hot mess and the first half is pretty good.

So in the end it seems like one of the two halves is not sitting well with 66% of critics.

The only thing about that is, sometimes the critics are wrong. Look how backwards the reviews are for most of the television shows on RT. We have subscriptions coming out of our pocket every month, but people lock their wallets up for one movie? Nah, I'd rather use my own two eyes to perceive. If I don't like the movie, then so be it.

Didn't they say that this wasn't a sequel to Man of Steel years back.... I fucking hate this guy.

eh, I think it can work both ways. It is Man of Steel 2 in the sense that it's building off the last movie's story. It isn't Man of Steel 2 in the sense that it's not a solo Superman sequel (which, given Snyder's "I wonder what that would look like" comment, doesn't sound like is happening anytime soon).

now i feel silly for spending $50 for lux seating, it was $25 for two tickets and $25 for the comfy chairs and vouchers for free popcorn and soda

the maybe train wreck happens at 6:30 tonight , I will take meh as a success

I suppose. But even so, i prefer to make up my own mind. Especially if we're talking about a genre you're a fan of, with characters you love. If i leave disappointed, then it's not the end of the world. At least you've seen it and can make your own, proper opinion.

I heard people frequently get food poisoning at this one restaurant, but I'm gonna go check it out myself just to be sure because I like to make up my own mind.

Other people might feel like they don't need to waste their money or time on that. Either way, I haven't seen anyone in this thread talk like that, I was just humoring his bad point. My philosophy on reviews is that if I'm excited about a movie, then I'll watch it regardless but if a movie looks like shit beforehand, like this one did, then the only way I'll watch it is if the reviews are vastly different from what I was expecting. That's what happened most recently with Deadpool, which I thought looked awful from the trailers but the reviews made me change my mind about giving it a chance.

Umm, with my subscription I'm getting tons of content. Paying for BvS, I'm only getting a single movie. Plus more for those with families.

Regardless, some of you guys are acting like a person can't catch this at rental. Just because someone was hyped for it, doesn't mean they have to go out day 1.

Why didn't it go the other way? Disney gets DC and WB gets Marvel? Marvel movies could use to be a little more gritty and serious, and DC just fucks everything up when Superman doesn't even get a singular pun or an option to show off his sass.

Save us, Christopher Reeves/Richard Donner/John Williams. You were/are too good for us.

Yep, WB is fucked. Best they can hope for is doing some bullshit time travel thing ala Days of Future Past and reboot everything that way.

I wouldn't go that far. We still got SS and WW to go. Best is to just let Synder do the Directing only and have Landis write a good JL script.

If Landis writes the script, I'm pretty sure he'd go the DoFP route and try and reboot/erase the whole damn thing. That guy is probably more upset than any of us with how Superman has been portrayed.

It might've hurt the movie that it had to sit on shelves for so long.

I don't follow? If anything, one of the chief complaints about BvS is that everything seems to have been rushed to release. Concept (primarily a crossover movie with two heroes while only having one previous film in on the DCCU plate), narrative (has too much stuff crammed in as a means to set up future material), and pacing (uneven editing).

Weirdest of all is that the production crew and studio had at three years to smooth things out and yet the final product still feels it was sloppily fast-tracked during production.

Suicide Squad has a machinegun wielding panda. I wouldn't call it gritty/grimdark...

I like Marvel's approaches. The movies are what you would expect from super hero films. Then they got two branches of TV shows, the Netflix one covering the gritty aspect of things if you want that.

Straight up, uninformed, ridiculously contrived bullshit.

Edgar Wright delayed production: he wanted to make World's End first.

He asked to make The World's End first and Marvel said that was fine. He can't make them do anything they're not ok with -- obviously, considering he ended up leaving the movie eventually.

Netflix Marvel is doing shit in Daredevil way more violent than anything you saw in Deadpool, and they're doing it with a straight face.

There's some shit in this season that's Verhoeven-levels of violent, honestly.

Oh yeah forgot about that. Haven't read it myself,

It's trash.

It's crazy how much they show on Netflix. I'm constantly surprised at how far they go.
