Suicide Squad, my mistake

And talking more about the antehero or dark hero that people like these days , like Batman. Superman has not evolved and including his villians on his recent movies.
???
Batman is still plenty heroic in his comics, and in the cartoons that are still held in extremely high regard...

People like Captain America plenty. A character who, on a moral level, lines up pretty much perfectly with Superman. People like motherfucking Ant-Man now. If Spider-Man shows up violently strangling people because "That's what cool guy anti-heroes do," people would be justifiably pissed.

People are shitting on this and Man of Steel precisely because WB and Snyder went with this depressing dark Superman who seems to lack any real empathy. The character on-screen lacks any real resemblance to the Superman people expected to see going in.

Superman can be plenty likeable, relatable, and fun when well-written. And the character on-screen wasn't any of those things.

I'm enjoying this thread a lot, but even I don't have the heart to watch that interview.

It's up to 33% again

Audience score before release: 110k reviews, 95%

Audience score after release: 124k reviews, 78%

This is just for all the "I just pay attention to user scores anyway" people.

Maybe this Superman is to be the bad Superman like in Crisis of Infinite Earths? DC thinkin' ahead.

They could totally wreck his character even and he becomes the villain who gets trapped behind the Source Wall, and he causes the next great reboot with his retcon punches.

he can also be an asshole as well but they haven't earned that yet because they still can't get the basic story of him down. oh well. the good thing is no matter what there will always be a reboot at some point. these things will always get another chance.

Forgive my ignorance: where did the idea of "let's rush to the JL movie and use BvS to set it up" come from? Is that someone at WB or Snyder?

It was probably a team decision. WB wants to get JL faster to avoid getting left in the Avengers dust, and Snyder seems like a pretty agreeable guy who just likes superheroes, so I'm sure he had no real objections even if it wasn't his idea in the first place. The guy, after all, was able to successfully push back on Man of Steel's ending (and I'm sure plenty of shit in Watchmen -- like doing an R-rated superhero film at all) so he probably has enough clout -- or WB is hands off enough -- that he can't be made to do something he doesn't really want to.

Until of course this week maybe!

Note that we still have a few hours left before the late-night premiere screenings here in the US. Once those happen...

I have a real strong feeling like WB has no idea what to do with DC properties. As much as people complain about Marvel overlording their films, they DO command some measure of consistent quality.

That's because the marvel films are run by a group of people who understand what makes the characters tick. Zack Snyder and the suits at the WB don't seem to get it, at ALL. And to be fair, there is precedent for them not understanding. They've been fucking shit up since the 4th batman film. The only time they got it right was when they let Nolan do the batman films and they left him the fuck alone.

Snyder looks like he wants to be fired or already is and WB are certainly not going to announce any changes in the first week of BvS release.

Afflecks like yeah, it's shit but we will ride it out and move on.

What about Shamalyan

M. Night? I don't hate him either but I haven't liked any of his movies. Unbreakable is okay I guess.

What have you enjoyed? I'm not picking on you, I'm sincerely curious.

Please, don't get hostile.

I won't get hostile, lol. That's not really my thing. Well, not in a long time anyway. :P

I enjoyed 300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead, Man of Steel and yes, to some extent, Sucker Punch. I haven't seen Legends of the Guardians so I can't comment on it.

I don't think any of them are stellar or worthy of some undue praise but I was entertained. I suppose I could rank them if you want. That seems to matter a lot to people. Not my ranking personally but rankings in general.

I don't understand how DC could live in a post Iron Man 2, Spiderman 3, and AMS2 world and still try to cram a bunch of universe building into one movie. It never works. You can't go from Iron Man 1 to Civil War to Avengers

I don't necessarily think that version of Superman would be a bad movie, and the first third of MoS certainly sets up that movie, but that's not the movie MoS was.

It's like making an offensive joke and going "oh, not PC enough for ya?" when nobody laughs. The issue isn't the fact that people can't handle the topic, it's because your joke wasn't funny.

The thing is a lot of the famous DC stories of all time are the ones that exist outside of "main" continuity-like Dark Knight Returns, All-Star Superman, Kingdom Come, etc. And a lot of their impact comes from the fact that it's so diferent seeing your heroes in these different settings, how it changed them and how they behave differently. But at the end of the day, the main continuity is there with the character you know and love.

It's as if Synder just skipped straight to Dark Knight Returns and wasn't even aware that the regular Batman that everyone loves exists.

3 hours away from seeing this. At this point I feel like I'm going to see the Titanic, and only me and a few other people are in on the fact that it tanked.

He's just waiting for the mess of BvS to pass by so he can take a crack at matching Nolan.

I hope.

On another note given his films are well directed, acted, written and made surely he must surely be well aware how weak the final result is? Judging by that face I'm going with yes.

I feel genuinely bad for Ben. He's wanted to be Batman for a long ass time and it seems like he put a lot into this only for the film to be received horribly.

Poor guy

Well, I think if he gets to make his solo movies he'll be not that sad anymore. I really hope they get officially announced at comic con.

watching the screen junkies review now. They mentioned that that spoilery trailer totally showed everything. People kept saying that no way that was possible, there it is.

If he toughs it out he'll have a shot. It'll just be hard to overcome any fallout from this.

Of course, we could all eat crow and the movie might make $350mil domestic and do gangbusters overseas. But that's slim, I'd wager.
