The issue currently is the studios seem to lack faith just putting a fun adventure on film with the character as a positive role model will be popular plus they're clearly still in thrall to tone Nolan took with Batman.

That's the other thing.

The Reeves Superman movies were alotta fun. It was pure comic joy on screen with a basic plot.

The most recent Superman movies kinda suck all the joy out of that, trying to make it into this grimdark, edgy series. The colors used, the plot, the 'the world will be destroyed' contrivances..it's not fun at all.

You can make a fun superman movie, that I agree on. And it works.

Nah...You actually have to be significant to bring down the genre. Think of Atari in the 80's and the gaming industry. They flooded the market with shitty carts, but they were the #1 game in town.

WB/DC are nowhere near Disney/Marvel's reach and influence at the moment. They probably never will. The DC cinematic Universe is done before it could even start.

Just saw it. I liked it. Dont get the fuss really. Was scared with all the bad reviews. Sure there are some parts that could have been beter. But overall it was the best Batman i have seen on screen, Wonder Woman was great also. And that combined in a Snyder visual overload and style i always liked.

The Batman stuff was pretty good. Wonder Woman was also good. But this was basically a Man of Steel sequel so unfortunately the main focus was on Superman, which was by far the weakest part of the movie.

Superman is hard to make interesting. To make Superman interesting, then the big fight scenes and huge destruction they try to input into a Superman movie has to be toned down.

Superman has to be about how he can't handle not being able to save everyone constantly. It has to be about how he tries so damn hard, that despite the hardest foe he faces, his biggest challenge is having to deal with his own limitations.

There's a point where throwing bigger and bigger baddies against Supes just falls apart. His greatest enemy has to be his own ego in terms of keeping the world in a bottle.

This is why I really didn't like what they with with Jonathan Kent in MoS. I liked the heart attack used in other adaptations because Clark literally can't save him from that, no matter what. So it's about actual limitations instead of limitations he only places on himself by choice.

The tacked on, stupid subtitle is completely representative of the tacked on aspirations towards being a prelude to Justice League, and the completely dumb sounding main title is absolutely reflective of the film's overall aim, and the apparently clumsy means by which they set about achieving it.

I fucked that one up, because I am a naive, hopeful old idiot.

Ah well, lowered expectations is good. At least I'm prepared when I go this Saturday. And it's IMAX so at least those explosion will look good.
