Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

Man it is hard for me to believe the good reviews in this thread, especially when they have comments about how BvS is better than the whole dark knight Nolan series and/or all marvel movies combined. I'm going to see this movie this weekend but i will have low expectations. Even Jeremy Jahns who is possibly one of the biggest comic fanboy reviewers on youtube could not even give this movie a good rating says something.

That Stuckmann guy loves superhero stuff and he gave it a C too.

Those are crazy people!!! This doesn't reach TDKR let alone the TDK.

Don't believe the hype of any movie that's fresh in viewer's eyes as something new.

It went to 30%??? This movie keeps surprising me.

It's a disappointing movie, but still not the worst superhero movie I seen, I've seen many worse than this.
It's between Batman and Robin and Batman Forever no doubt. In terms of Superman movies, probably right in the middle.

Down to 30%...

It might be in the 20s by tomorrow morning.

Can it possibly be that bad?

I was expecting like 50s for this.

30% is downright horrible. And to make it even more strange, critics like Richard Roper LIKED it.

I just got out of seeing this. This might be the single biggest disconnect I have ever had with critics. I felt like I watched a different movie then they did. If you go into this looking for a movie with the tone and feel of a marvel movie I could see how you could write reviews like they did. Its not a stand alone Batman v Superman movie either, its a DCEU movie and it feels like one. Its basically a prologue not a stand alone story which I'm sure drives critics nuts. Its funnier then they said too, whole theater laughed multiple times. They are sparse, but the humor hits when they crack a joke.

The Nolan films were about if you woke up tomorrow and learned a vigilante was working in New York fighting the mob. This film wanted that same tone real world+, but how would the world actually react to aliens existing and a being with the power of a god walking among us. This is a Superman who is just a good guy trying to do whats right in the face of a messed of planet when you have the power of a god and half the world hates you, half the world loves you and everyone is afraid of you.

Its a really good movie, if slower paced then you might expect from a superhero film.

The movie was okay, but I don't feel a Superman Vs. Batman should just be okay. If you ask me it's Thor-tier. You don't regret watching it, but you'll most likely never watch it again. Way better movie then MoS. It's also a better Superman movie then MoS.

30%? So it's twice as good as Super Mario Bros then.

They're both awesome. Haters gonna hate.

No driveby, my commentary will either be in the Spoiler Thread or OT

Eisenberg Lex earned his douchebag status.

Speaking on the soundtrack, I wish there was some sense of hope in it. It's all so grim, dark...grimdark you could say. I guess Junkie XL made what he was told to make. I felt mostly indifferent to his material, which I assume is the new stuff. Doesn't hold a CANDLE to Zimmer's work from MoS, of which much was reused in this movie.

Just got back, and while there were some things I enjoyed, the movie overall is just a fucking mess. Affleck is a great Batman, but Eisenberg is so horrific there are no words. The entire film is just a grab bag of ideas that never come close to building a compelling narrative. The pacing is all over the place to the point where the movie feels disjointed. Ugh, just not good

Soo gaf impressions are pretty positive.. What a twist!

The ones you are reading, yes they are.

The ones you are blocking in the back of your mind are not, but it's understandable that you missed them. There's only like dozens of them in the past few pages.

Damn it! You almost made me wait for it to pop up on HBO lol..HATE Thor movies..

I'd agree with 50/50..

Superman and Lois are the best parts of the movie. I truly feel that his was Superman movie then they forced Batman in it. This movie could of been a great Superman movie IMO

A slight step up from Man of Steel. I actually prefer Snyder's visual eye here over pretty much any other superhero movie. There's a depth and texture to his images that is simply not present in the Marvel universe. However, the story here is a complete mess. I've seen collages by preschoolers that were better assembled than BvS. There's no structure or momentum whatsoever to anything happening. That said, Ben Affleck might be the best Batman and I enjoyed Wonder Woman's brief presence (but those guitar solos have to go). Overall, it's pretty depressing how this movie feels more like an inevitability to what's next rather than anything that can stand on its own.

I'd go C-. Better than Deadpool!

What piece of absolute crap. I'll give it a D-. And I gave Man of Steel an A+.

The plot is nonsense. Horrible dialogue. Most of the action scenes felt idk poorly directed or something.

The only things I liked were the music (another good Hans Zimmer piece) and Wonder Woman and Flash were pretty cool I guess.

I wanted to walk out of the theater half way through it. It was like pulling teeth. The RT score should be 5% not 30%. I LOVED the Nolan movies too.

Damn, scathing!

Just got back. First of all, the aggregate critics score is nonsense, but...........

I honestly don't know how to feel about this movie. There's a LOT to question and discuss.

Was a huge comic book fan growing up. I liked Man of Steel. I saw the review numbers and expected horrendous shit. Went in and while not a masterpiece I think it did alright. Solid 7/10 from me. There were a couple of moments in the movie that I thought to myself "why is this scene here, it breaks up the momentum."

It's also kind of amazing how much was given away in the trailers. You could tell WB knew they had a stinker and were forced to lay all their cards on the table.

This movie makes Thor 2 look like Return of the King, and Return of the King look like Godfather 2, and Godfather 2 look like a smile from God on your birthday during a blowjob.

I think you're the first person to speak of Superman or Lois in a positive way. Did he have more personality than in MoS? People were making it seem like he's still mopey..

I noticed the Double Toasted guys mentioned the same thing.

As justice league part one, its actually not half bad. As batman v superman, its a fucking mess. This movie has ironman 2 syndrome. Its so busy trying to hint towards future films and characters that it loses track of its own plot.

Awwww shit.

Thanks for your reactions!

It amazing how reactionary people get when the critic's opinions don't align with their own. Like, I do it too, but it's fascinating to watch it unfold in real time here

Na he is still Mopey, but next to Batman dude is Mr Rogers.

"So the GAF reviews are all positive! Big surprise!"

You know what, I didn't enjoy Deadpool as much as I should have. I didn't watch it on day one and more like month one. I watched it in peace, with no audience clapping and cheering along with me, and I may have cracked up at three instances. It was one of the safest movies I've ever seen. It spoiled everything in trailers (Note: I think BvS also spoiled most of the movie in trailers which killed the hype), and there were no major reveals or a reason for the plot to continue. People may say "DUH! IT'S DEADPOOL" but that is no excuse for a movie with no plot.

I liked it when I left the theater but much like most of this genre I thought little of it like days later. It's another solid 6/10 movie.

Mad hyperbole from people saying it changed the game and shit. I wish the action was better. I found the humor and character fun tho
