Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

I couldn't care less whether somebody likes it or not. Makes no odds to me personally.

The reason I questioned the levels of dislike is simply because I'm coming away wondering what exactly is so unpalatable about this movie compared to all the others? Particularly given that many of the conplaints I see thrown at it could be applied to the majority of comic book films.

It ain't even gotta be fanboy wars. You see it all over the place in all sorts of situations.

People like believing they have iconoclastic tendencies. That they're original thinkers. No matter how small the thoughts might be. There's an easy integrity to be claimed if you simply pair your own opinion (which might actually be honest as fuck) with the assertion that people who disagree with you did so out of what ultimately boils down to a simple need to belong, and not because of any real meritorious notions. So not only are you now sharing your opinion, you're sharing your weird sense of independence and intellectual superiority based on...

...not much, really, but that's usually how that sorta thing goes.

People pull that line because they don't really value opinions anywhere near as much as they value feeling able and original. If you didn't like something, it's because you allowed something to get in your way, something they were able to easily maneuver around, and you could have too if only you weren't letting yourself get tripped up by simple shit like other people's opinions.

It's a weird, counterproductive notion on a discussion forum, though. It's why you keep seeing people rolling up into the review thread, to give their own reviews, while prefacing said reviews in the review thread with the disclaimer that people who listen to reviews are dumb, and reviews are dumb. Because it's not really about the reviews at all, it's about showing people...

...not much really, but that's usually how that sorta thing goes.

I've just seen a bunch of posters today that I've never seen before taking the time to post about this movie. I know it's just a coincidence but it's a weird one that I noticed and thought I'd point out.

One of my favorite critics, Raja Sen, has review out and boy is it scathing. He gave it 0 stars out of 5.
Here’s what I suggest the problem is: Zack Snyder doesn’t understand comics. Sure, he loves them. That’s more than evident from his loyalty to the source material, his invariably bombastic character introductions, the way he amps up scale, scale, scale… but — like Kevin Kline misreading Nietzsche in A Fish Called Wanda — I well and truly doubt he gets what makes the comics he is fond of so special in the first place. His Frank Miller adaptation, 300, gratuitously emphasised the worst aspects of the original work; his Man Of Steel robbed the world’s most loved character of all colour; his Watchmen — which I, as an Alan Moore fan, have not watched — should simply not exist, made in defiance of that grand creator’s wishes; and now comes this overblown monstrosity.

Sure, this could be his plan all along. All part of a grand supervillainous scheme to show audiences how stupid the superhero genre is by murdering their heroes on screen, impaling them with mediocrity over and over again. It may well be by design, because Batman Vs Superman is so lunkheaded it seems unreal: there is a lot of action, with Snyder literally throwing in the kitchen sink at one point, but the setpieces are all dispirited and unspectacular — made worse by the way the director keeps cutting away from the action to insert some sappy moments — and the film feels four hours long, especially when the moment for it to fade-to-black at the end happens at least a half-dozen times. It is a film that aims for big revelations which, surprise, aren’t revelations at all. There is some talk of collateral damage and superhero responsibility, but this is blatant lip-service. All this film wants — desperately, incessantly, relentlessly — is to be louder.

To me, this is the worst superhero movie of all time, particularly in terms of squandered potential. It is moronic enough to believe two people sharing a name is a coincidence of world-altering import. You, as a fan, deserve better. Superman and Batman, collectively known in DC Comics as the World’s Finest ™, deserve far better. And Zack Snyder, be it inability or subversion, needs to be kept away from these icons — at least till he figures out that the red of the cape is the colour of a bright and stunning Testarossa, not merlot spilt on the floor.

So what do you suggest?, that we dont voice our opinions?, or that our opinions are worth shit because we post less than others?. or even better, that maybe I made this account a couple years back just to praise this movie, get over yourself just because some of us can think and talk outside of the echo chamber doesnt mean anything.

but go ahead and dislike something that could potentially entertain so you can have the copy paste opinion everyone has.
 
I went to the premiere here in Mexico with some friends and even though I'm a Marvel guy I liked it! Not my favorite ComicBook movie but I still enjoyed it. After reading through the multiples threads in the forums, all those bad reviews surprise me D: but I understand most of the complaints so I do hope they listen to the feedback. My main problem with the movie was the pacing. Like, we're with this scene and then suddenly we're with this unrelated scene and then we have some sort of dream sequence and
Flash pops out of nowhere
and so on, so I was kinda confused during the movie. Plus (heavy spoilers)
Superman being killed really surprised me, because when I was a kid I remember going to a Superman movie and he also died too, so that left a mark on me and then it happens again here! I know he'll be back for the next JL movie but still hahaha.

well... im a junior member and i fucking hated the movie (aside from batman and alfred)

WTF? I actually ended up loving this.
Literally only 2 problems I had with it.

1. This wet blanket of a Superman
2. This Lex is awful, I expected something interesting when he was cast and he even start out okay before going off a cliff.

You made a very good point, but there IS something about people who automatically dismiss or join in the mockery of a movie that is popular and getting poor reviews. You've seen plenty of people who have already decided for themselves that the movie is terrible, a trainwreck, what have you, based on the opinions of critics. You were totally right, though, that a big problem is the people who think that anybody who has a dissenting opinion is 100% doing it to join the crowd and be accepted. That's a ridiculous conspiratorial and unhealthy way to look at it.
 
This movie was a total mess. Everything wrong with MoS is multiplied in this movie. The characterization of superman is horrendous, he hardly even speaks in the entire movie. Motivations come and go like nothing. No emotional build up to anything. Sloppy movie.

At least Affleck was an awesome batman.
 
I fucking hate this fucking trash.

Just got out of the opening screening with some friends. No hyperbole, this is Batman and Robin tier of film for me. No joke, it's the worst thing I've seen all year. Thoroughly incompetent.
