Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

Am I on the right track? After some wandering after the cursed greatwood I've come across another boss which is
crystal mage

Yeah, from there you have a few options of where to go, i'm not sure which is right but
the church seemed much harder than the swamp.
Make sure you clear out the monsters where you are though, there's a bunch of good items in that water.

Thanks mate. I had no idea where I was going. Anyway the boss killed me so heading back. This area is intimidating though. I'm already wondering where the hell I go from here.

Thank you for the replies, Fakeknowledge, InternHertz.

I agree rdytoroll, if it wasn't fixable I was simply going to wait until a patch was available before playing again.

Putz around for a while. There's some neat stuff to be had and
the crabs
give decent xp. Also there's some fun stuff leading into the fires for the two new areas.

Any find the armor sets
Farrm, Elite knight or drakeblood? Also I heard the red knight armor can be obtain from beating the game ;_;

I saw an npc in elite knight. I imagine murder might get you access to the set.

I know the pc version isn't out yet but do you think I will be able to run it at 1080p 60fps on ultra on a laptop with a 970m?

Unless they optimize it further compared to its current state, you'll get some framerate drops into the low 50s at least at times. I'm sure you could easily get a stable 60fps though by adjusting a few of the graphical options that have more of a noticeable performance impact than they do a graphical one.

This is how I feel. The game seems harder than any other souls or borne game, and it's largely because of the brutal and unpredictable combos of enemies. Parrying helps but only if you are so good at it that you won't miss, because enemies do so much damage that it's impractical to take shots at parrying if you aren't going to land it 90% of the time.

Black Knights
, like I said, seem really hard to me. Their combos are hard to predict, sometimes they just keep swinging, 3, 4, 5 swings -- and you can't tell whether they're going to do this or not.

Fights against these types of enemies often just come down to a lot of patience.

Yeah. Enemies in Dark Souls 1 like the Silver and Black knights, and the Darkwraiths were very easy to parry. You didn't risk that much if you failed your parry, and they were pretty slow so it was easy to find a window to heal if you fucked up.

[Dark Souls 3 standard enemies spoiler]
The Dark Souls 3 versions of these enemies
are miles harder in comparison. A failed parry means you'll easily lose 50-75% of your health at best, at worst you'll get killed right away (some of their attacks have the potential to 1HKO you if they catch you in a counter-hit situation). And then they attack way faster so both pulling the parry in the first place and finding a window for an Estus are harder.

They also eat through your stamina bar really quick if you try to block many of their attacks (a tower shield solves that issue... but then you can't parry anymore).

It's still feasible but a lot of the time I'd rather not risk it. When you need to fight 5 of those hard to parry enemies in a row I'd rather play it more conservatively to make sure I live through the ordeal.

Well I never use AA because I don't see the point in high resolutions so there is that and I don't mind a few drops to 50s fps so all is fine.

Watching some PC gameplay and I'm sad we didn't get 60fps on consoles. It looks soo good. But I understand optimization isn't their forté

It's a bit selfish from me since I'll also get the PC version when it comes out but I'm kinda glad it's that way. If the game was designed from the ground up for achieving 60fps on consoles it'd look noticeably worse, and the PC version wouldn't look as good as it does now.

I'm planning a 1-hour stream late tonite on PS4 U.S. ver reviewable (1.01, offline). I won't go beyond the areas under last Wednesday's embargoed content but if some items still needs translation, let me know.

The spear knights in the first area can drop their spear. It's pretty good. Similar moveset to basic spear but fatter. Plus it looks cool.

So what's the point of repairing stuff from
Andre.
? Everything seems to auto repair whenever you go to a bonfire. Nothing ever even shows up for me to repair in his menu.

I think it's for when you actually do break one of your weapons. I don't know how it's possible though, I never went below ~80% even after being stuck on a boss for an hour and a half.

I guess that's fair enough. I just wish it were able to look as good as it does now on consoles and still run at 60fps. As it is, graphically the ps4 version is good enough for me.

Oh right, that's how it worked in DS1 as well. But yeah I'm not going to come close unless there's some durability acid debuff spitting monsters somewhere.

Just had my first "Yep, this is Dark Souls" moment in
The Road of Sacrifices
(4th area).

Working my way through a dilapidated fortress, I hit a long corridor with a spell caster at the end. He starts spamming Soul Arrow my way and a bunch of his buddies jump out from the sides of the hall. I dive into one of the alcoves to try and avoid the attacks only to fall straight into a pit below with one of the much heavier hitting glowing-eye guys. He quickly overwhelms me so I make a break for it and run out into the swamp. I can hear him on my tail...

...but what's that other noise?

Oh just a giant crab coming scurrying out of the swamp at horrifying speed, which then proceeds to eviscerate me.

Literally went from bad, to worse, to worst to REKT.

Do you think a GTX 650 TI 2gb would be able to handle it on medium for 30 frames?

Lmao exactly the same thing happened to me.

I am seriously in awe of how big the area I'm currently exploring is. Soooo many shortcuts and branching paths. Just wow.

Hahah good story. I gasped the first time I saw what ended up killing you.

That's a bit of hyperbole. I've seen successive areas loop in on themselves, but I've yet to see a loop even close to Dark Souls 1 original loop. Not even close.

It's not the same since the hub is disconnected (as far as I know) but I think the way the areas connect are impressive. Basically you can see where you'll go and you'll look back and realize you see an area you visited many hours ago. It makes sense and it's a world, very much like DS1. I don't really care to compare which loop is the better, they are both great.

I just unlocked The Road
of Sacrifices
and I feel like I missed a boss. I've killed 3 so far with the
cursed tree
being the most recent. Any ideas? Thx.

There must be because where the hell is
nameless king / ancient wyvern
?!

hidden wall behind ocerios bonfire for unattended graves, and use the gesture from ocerios (seated bow) on the carpet with the dragon guys staring up at archdragon peak (close to latria 2.0 bonfire, down the elevator that leads to the small open bit with the seated guys) to get there

People who think the game is disconnected.

Go to the swamp, and
go to the top of the large fortress with the wolf coveant. The place with the prowling demon. Then go to the end of the giant bridge. Mind becomes blown.

Bloodborne performed poorly, this is even a bit worse than that. How much it bothers you is up to you, but it ain't smooth, and if you like to do multiplayer stuff it even gets worse still

Well Bloodborne got really stable at 30 fps a couple of hours in for me. Old Hunters performed very well too.

Also I gotta ask everyone playing. How strong are the Berserk references in DS3? Berserk is my favorite piece of entertainment ever.

I've seen at least one new enemy that's a sure rip-off (in a good way) from Berserk :p

You're a Mercedes of men, my man.

Game is unbelievable. It's exceeded my expectations already and I'm only 4 bosses in.
It could well be my favourite souls if it continues this high standard. The level designs and atmosphere is great and I think the enemies are much more varied and creative in this.

Okay, I just watched a Let's Play for about 3 hours (real version, not beta). I don't like what I'm seeing. Imo this game is way too linear, just like Bloodborne. It's like you go from A>B>C>D

There seems no other way. Dark Souls 1 was fantastic, Dark Souls 2 was okay but it still has more open "gameplay" (if you know hat I mean). Even Demon's Souls seems more open (linear design but you can approach the level in any order).
Don't get me wrong...it looks good...it just doesn't look like a good Souls game. It's Bloodborne 2.0

Yes, there are shortcuts but only within the same level. I mean... there's already a
teleport
after the first level, what the fuck?

I don't know. It looks like a sequel to Bloodborne (to me) ...not really interested to be honest.

So where's the boss in faraam keep? I lit all the torches by the big stone door and i just ended up back at the black knight.

by area 3 there's already branching paths.

I also really enjoyed the Stray Demon reference.

I've seen 2 that are really blatant but I'm sure there's even more if you start digging a bit deeper. Also, [post D

there's this whole eclipse thing too

Play the bloody game before you judge it.

Utterly ridiculous

Jesus Christ this shits so annoying. Stop it.
Stop. it
You haven't even played the game, you're watching it and you've barely seen anything from the game. There are numerous people in this thread alone saying the exact opposite and the only people who feel how you feel haven't played the game. Give it a chance before you start shitting all over it.

Yeah.

Also, the levels tend to be way more open and have more shortcuts within themselves than any other Souls game. I think that adds more to the gameplay than being able to go back to firelink shrine in DaS1.
