Tony's Civil War suit isn't the same from the end of AoU, is it? That's ugly but Civil War's is quite nice. Can't tell if the presentation that's helping.
The Hulkbuster suit makes sense, but the suit switch in the final third of Age of Ultron was probably the most gratuitously dispensable one of the entire IM/Avengers series. At least in previous films they gave a reason, no matter how flimsy, as to why Tony switches to a new suit. AoU didn't even try. A throwaway line would've sufficed.
I'm willing to bet that most general audiences didn't notice the difference. If I weren't such a nerd about these things, I doubt I would've either, they're fairly similar at a glance.

No, it's the Mark 46. Tony's suit at the end of AoU was the Mark 45.

What's it matter? And you know the armor was probably tweaked after facing Ultron in the ship so that it was better suited for battle.
It matters because I like the technical details and want to know what differentiates them beyond just mere asthetics.. If there was a reason, I wanna know why. It's as simple as that.
That was my take. They kinda "showed" it when he switched the armor interface to Friday. Other than that, yeah, it was not explained and there was seemingly no point. I liked Mk 45 it a lot tho, the other I thought looked awful from the very first set pics, so it was a welcome change.

I get the feeling that there was a deleted scene where Ultron takes over Tony's armor. That's why the Hot Toys figure has a "Battle Damaged Head with red eyes". That's probably also why the armor change feels so extraneous. A change like that is bound to feel unnecessary when you remove the reasoning behind it.
Tony is an engineer at heart, the blue prints in his head is always 2 versions ahead of what he has on.

Where are those suits from? They look really great. I only noticed the change from Iron Man 1's suit to Iron Man 2's suit.

There's a deleted scene where Tony overnights a chip to Rhodey that prevents Ultron from taking over their suits.
Oh wow. So there's a very high chance that there's a cut scene of Ultron taking over his suit for them to write a reactionary scene like that.

I still like the vanilla coke armour from Iron Man 3. I get why they didn't use beyond that film, but it's snazzy.

Seems like it was something that would have explained the switch in suits but it got cut.
My guess is that the angle used to be that Ultron took over the suit and was pretending to be Iron Man, therefore everyone started hating IM and they somehow turn it around later. Then a bit through maybe plans for Civil War changed or solidified and they switched it around to Ultron taking over the damaged Stark drone to taunt the Avengers to set Tony up in a more desired path re: the public for Civil War.

If Ultron did take over all of the Iron Man armours and Tony had to go armourless again like in IM3, MacGyvering weapons together, that'd probably be a better movie.

This could've been really interesting and yeah it'd have fixed my issue with the unexplained suit switch.
I can see how it could've affected the flow of the film (or subsequent films), so it's understandable if it was cut for that reasonn.
I try not to. Iron Man has some fever dream ass stories and art.

Same or almost identical to Ultron. They finally settled on one.
Cap's AoU suit has white on his arms and some extra red piping next to the star on his chest. Otherwise, it's the same as the CW suit.

The color way is mix of the AoU and WS outfit. They took the AoU outfit and stripped it of its red/white on the chest and bicep.
I think that's just an allusion to Tony being the creator of Ultron.

Aren't we going to get a new costune for cap in civil war, with the chain mail look? Or am I just dreaming that up?
One on the left is a tweaked version of the main Iron Man 3 suit used in Age of Ultron. One on the right is for the final battle of Age of Ultron.
The only fuck up overall is Cap's Avengers outfit, where they didn't add a chinstrap to the cowl. It's good without the cowl otherwise.

Winter Soldiers' stealth suit to modified WWII suit is one of the rare occurrences of a costume change tying into the themes of the story. I appreciated that. Most times it's that Batman & Robin, change for merchandising sake.
There have been some product/publicity art which features Cap wearing the scale mail.

after Black Panther joins Team Cap.
The chainmail look is probably stuff they prototyped but never used. Remember that Avengers Cap promo art that showed his ears?

Its pretty much guarantee that Black Panther doesn't really care about Tony's argument or the accords, and he just allied with him because their goals align. He seems to be after Bucky specifically, which is why he is against Cap.
