Only reason I ain't in there is because I was the threads silent guardian.

Oh, that was you? Nice fedora.

I'm curious, if this drops 68-70% this coming weekend, will there be posters saying "The audience seeing it now is more forgiving than those on OW. It'll hold steady next week!"

Edit: Just to clarify, this isn't directed at you, m_shortpants. It's just something that has been stated A LOT since Thursday, and I don't feel like it is an argument backed up by the information we have at the moment.

#DickMeasuring

I'll just toss out that I'm the $200M OW bandwagon for Civil War now. It lacks many of the weaknesses BvS had, and it's got a novelty that Ultron lacked... Oh, and no Mayweather to shit on the BO!

If it fails to hit that mark, we can spend a few hundred posts talking about Superhero fatigue.

Shit, with BvS's trajectory, the genre's 6 major films may only make $1.7B domestic this year. Clearly audiences have had enough.

I put in a full MLB season on that fucking thread.

Was more fun that it wasn't. And I'm all sorts of surprised there was that much fun to be had, considering it was a fuckin' Rotten Tomatoes thread, of all the goddamned things.

It was the best of times, it was the blurst of times.

I've been out most of the day, I assume you got a chance to see it? Post a review / impressions yet?

Where else can you talk about The Rocketeer, Iron Man 3, and Blankman v Meteor Man?

Just wait until X-men comes out. If that fails to break $200M total, it'll be nothing but fatigue speculation and begging for more R-rated superhero films.

Is there any phrase more grating than "well deserved?" Like, even for movies or games I like, when someone says "well deserved," I grind my teeth together. It's such an awkward compliment.

I wonder if Spidey will push Civil War over an 100 mil weekend. No chance of reaching this unfortunately.

Nah, I haven't posted a review yet. Again, this film is just... who'da thunk it'd spawn an RT thread like that one? Who'da thunk it'd make MAX LANDIS of all people fuckin speechless? Who'da thunk I'd find myself more or less aligned with Max Landis at any point? And yet...

I'll go hit up the spoiler thread, but really, like Max said, there's not much I can say that hasn't already been covered by everyone else.

I'll say I didn't get as much enjoyment out of it as Walter Chaw did, although the parts I did like, I liked primarily for the reasons he ends up giving it 3 out of 5 stars: It does what it's trying to do intermittently, and it's so fucking WEIRD about doing it that there's just... it's a fascinating slog. A grimy, angry, clenched fist full of befuddling decisions that will not. stop. hitting you.

Cap on his own made $95M opening weekend last time.

I'm more interested in seeing what happens next week. There will be a drop off, but how much?

Also, I'm lighting a candle in remembrance of the RT thread, and lodging a public complaint about the lack of penises and their approximate dimensions in this thread. Promises were made!

The first sign of the apocalypse.

200M OW for CW sounds way too optimistic imo.
I'm not even sure who is serious in here anymore! That other thread killed my brain.

Hah, thanks. 'Baffling' is the word that came to mind walking out of the theater. Just a big basket of WTF at decision after decision. There's a good movie in there but they buried that shit deep.

I said it over in the spoiler thread, but this really has more in common with his fuckin' Owl Movie than it does anything else he's made. Which is its own sort of what-the-fuck amazing.

Maybe it's buried in the extra 30 minutes of the directors cut.

It needs both large additions and subtractions to get good, I think. Entire plotlines either distract from the core story, or dead end outright. My worry with the extended cut is they'll literally just extend, which might bring closure to some scenes that need closure, but as much as that, the film needs focus.

Just got back from BvS.

I thought the reviews were hyperbole. I was wrong.

What's sad is that even understanding all the tongue in cheek references to the classic Batman/Superman films, even knowing who Wonder Woman and Doomsday are, it still didn't make sense. Impenetrable is the best way I could describe it to non fans. And the fight scenes aren't even good.

I don't understand how this could happen to a major studio. ASM2 is honestly a better film.

Have director cuts every been shorter than the theatrical releases? I would like a 30 minute shorter directors cut of BvS.
As long as they cut out the part where Lex murders Mercy. I mean animated Lex has been known to mistreat Mercy, but he never flat out killed her. Even Blight never murdered his assistant.

What's a good range that people are expecting Civil War to open to?

It being a Captain America movie at heart but also featuring what is essentially the Avengers makes me thing around the 180 area personally (aka, almost doubling WS opening).
