Snyder gets lot of blame, but movies have so many people involved. The writers for example are getting a total pass while its all being put on Snyders shoulders? Every aspect he is not part of, including the design of a character is not his call to make, many of these things are decided by producers and execs in the project.

Actually in the case of BvS I think a lot of people's annoyances could probably be laid at WB or Snyder over someone like Terrio...Snyder was also quite involved in the designs of characters and did sketches and signed off on things iirc. Or at least his wife did but they work as a pair anyway. For BvS, Deborah Snyder said that things like the Knightmare sequence were only put in when they were mid-filming and SS and WW were being written or in pre-production etc and they thought it'd be cool to have these things that would pay off in Wonder Woman (the photograph) or Knightmare (Justice League).

It doesn't exactly sound that smart to me, but I post on NeoGAF, I don't make movies

I'm just saying that the comparison to other big comic films doesn't really hold given the fact that Monday was a holiday for a lot of schools, when all the first week of May openers are regular school day Mondays.

Look at Hunger Games in 2012. Its third weekend was Easter Weekend. Its Friday drop was about 15% softer than its Saturday and Sunday drop compared to the previous week. It's Easter Monday drop was 8% week-to-week. Tuesday and Wednesday were 38%.

BvS' Monday is likely inflated by at least 20%. The rest of the week will be moderately inflated since this week is still a popular spring break week. Next week's weekday drops will be very large. This Friday's drop will be very large. We will need to see how the film holds on Sat/Sun to start talking about legs.

This is just the latest permutation of it: the notion that "the critics" aren't just people who get paid to write about movies they watch, but a hostile tribe out to destroy BvS.

Haven't seen the film yet. But I could easily see myself falling into the camp of:

Movies are pretty subjective, critics may know the medium well enough to critique it structurally but in the end review aggregates are only decent indicators for whether you will enjoy said film or not.

I treat the scores of review aggregates as percentage chance that I will enjoy a film. The reviews themselves can give more insight. But I'm also a bit biased as I could like the film even if most of it is dogshit drivel as long as Batfleck is good and serves as a starting point for good future batman and or JL films.

Even if the majority of schools were out this week, consider that HP8's first Monday was in July when all kids were out of school. It had a fairly good hold from Sunday - Monday (-49%), but fell like a rock in its second weekend (-72%). Kids being in or out of school can make a big difference during the week, but probably has no significant effect on weekends. We still have to wait until this weekend to see how BvS is actually going to hold.

What else were people going to see?

Variety is at least 7 years late to the party. Rotten Tomatoes was going full steam in 2009, and that didn't prevent Revenge of the Fallen from grossing $200M in 5 days (back when that was still a huge feat).

I'm hoping now that home release is indeed about 3 months, even for successful blockbusters, more people will do just that. I think why many might still do it is the whole "watercooler" effect, in that people only want to talk about it when it first comes out.

Not me though. If I decide to not see it in theaters, I'll wait. Especially since I can watch the new releases at home in UHD with HDR.
